Who was the Cougar player that had a friend that played for UW, and went into their weight room with him and proceeded to put up a ridiculous amount of weight on the bench press that blew away their gym record?

Erik Howard is the only player at WSU that could pull off a feat like that. If memory serves, he had the DL bench record at 550 or so. I don't think WSU has had anyone since that could put up that kind of number or anywhere near it.

Josh Dunning might be who he was thinking about. He was an offensive lineman in the late 80's and early 90's. He was that strong. I believe he put up around 600 lbs.

This is one of those Cougar lore stories that always pops up around Apple Cup time (I remember reading about it on that other site that doesn't need to be named); sounded like a true story, but you never know. Also, seems like it would have been sometime in the eighties, so Erik Howard would make sense.

Makes sense. The steroids were better late 80s, early 90s.

Muscles in a syringe. I remember my freshman year in the eighties going to that old dungeon of a weight room where the racketball courts were and seeing some neanderthal of a guy doing bench press reps (guy was putting it up 4 or 5 times) with 5 plates on either side. He looked like Tony Mandarich he was so obviously juiced up.

That was a true story and the name of the player escapes me. An employee made him leave.
