Sorry guys, more football

As long as getting D2 kids is the exception and not the norm, I'm ok with this.

But to beat a dead horse, everything about what we're seeing with the program feels Wullfian.

If he took those visits he had at least 3 offers from P4 programs. Path to playing now might have been the decider.

I don’t care where they come from if they can play.

Plus, Arkansas was beginning to snoop around. At the very least, he adds depth. If he starts, then the left tackle position is better than it had been.

He's not coming to WSU to be depth, and whoever recruited him promised him pt. The second he catches wind of having to sit on the bench he'l be on the first plane out of Pullman.

You crimson-colored glasses guys seem to think we're still P4 adjacent; we're not. We're barely G5 adjacent, and the only thing we can offer any kid is pt, and if they don't get it here they'll go seek it elsewhere. That's not necessarily an indictment on WSU, but on the system as it currently stands.

That being said, if WSU wasn't amongst the worst programs in D1 football financially they might not be in the situation they are currently in.

Thanks kurt. Although signing another DII player doesn't exactly tingle my dingle.

He was probably a late bloomer, combined with probably being fat, out of shape, combined with probably NOT having a lot of film, exposure, playing experience in Highschool, etc.

But at least he was 6-7, 330, etc.

Then he probably got coached up, developed, got in shape, etc, and then probably started playing like a G5, P4 player at the D2 level, because 6'-7" 330, is something that can be WORKED with, into a D1, G5, P4, NFL, etc, player.

There have been players who played at D2 for 4 years, and then got highly drafted into the NFL, after their senior, final season.

6-7, 330 is USUALLY very good for O Line.

If you have been paying attention to what recruits have been saying, they are not promised a starting job by this staff. So, your entire post is based on your own feelings and not on reality of the situation.

When he arrives on campus and competes against Tripp and Tripp beats him out, do you really think he quits right then? It is too late to transfer to another school. He already used up a redshirt year, Again, he either wins the job or is depth, just like Austin Lawrence was last season after he transfered in last summer from Northern Colorado and rode the bench most of the season.

Sure thing bud. You trust what the recruits say, I'll trust what they do.

You think Rogers has reinvented the wheel from his D2 throne and figured out a way to keep kids from jumping ship to the next better thing? Good for you.

If he loses out to Tripp, will he be on the roster during the season or will he quit the team right then before the season starts?

I never claimed to have a crystal ball. What I know is what I see season after season which is that kids don't transfer to sit on the bench, and since there are not transfer penalties they just move to where they or their handlers think they can get pt.

Maybe this kid will be that one special kid who just loves WSU and Rogers so much he'll be compelled to stay because its the right thing to do for the team. Yeah, maybe that will happen.

Need to let them play a game.
Am I being chicken little?
Yeah, probably a bit.

Is it completely without cause?
Not at all.

But you bring up a good point that probably deserves its own thread: expectations.

Since the bar for WSU is on a downward sliding scale, what should the expectations be?

There are certainly people here who believe we are still men among boys being the former P5 bully amongst the G5 rabble, and nothing less of 10 wins would be a complete failure.

There are those who think WSU will continue to be middle of the pack to good, for reasons unknown to me - sheer blind hope I guess.

Then there are those who see the schools commitment, or lack thereof, to sports in general and football specifically in a state of constant decline and thus the teams performance commensurate with investment made.

Here's a question: when was the last time we got to be excited about a recruit, not because it was a warm body to plug into an already thing and constantly churning roster, but because they were an actual talent that we could expect good to great things from? Even during the crap years pre 2008 we had a couple of those kids every year - now we're happy to get someone with a pulse just to fill a roster spot.

I really don't know what to expect this year. 6-6 with a berth in the Whatever Bowl seems reasonable.

Long-term, my expectation, fear, whatever, is that WSU will basically return to form in the new Pac. Poorly supported and funded, because that's WSU has always been, and honestly there is no reason to think otherwise. We're far enough away from the FOB and stadium remodel that other schools are catching up (CSU has a pretty neat stadium, BSU is at least trying, sans the awful turf SDSU seems to have a good facility, OSU is ahead of us). We'll have ups and downs, and hopefully the ups will be memorable.

I gave you an example above of a player, Austin Lawrence, who transferred into WSU after starting at Northern Colorado and rode the bench. I am sure he thought he was going to play. Instead, he was depth. It is the same exact scenario with Caldwell. He either starts or is depth in 2025. It isn't that complicated. Not sure why you are arguing.
