I have never really heard of that taking place. They were able to trip a few during the spring cycle but I wonder who they ended up losing because they were out of trips.

What’s done is done I guess but glad to move on from the last regime.

Football teams are allowed to bring in 50 or so kids on official visits. Makes sense there would be a limit for basketball too.

Yes, there is a limit. I don't know the particulars. Notice the wording Smith used. He said "we" were out of visits, not "they" (the players) were out of visits.

As far as I know it's been 5 official visits for players.

Football teams are allowed to bring in 50 or so kids on official visits. Makes sense there would be a limit for basketball too.

That's definitely how it read. In some cases maybe it didn't matter too much. They missed on some player that visited as well (Post, Kuany). It will be interesting to see how this cycle unfolds especially in the fall.

Used to be the kids could take 5 official visits and the school could sponsor 12 visits. That has been a few years.

Did a little research. Found several references (including NCAA recruiting page) that a recruit can take up to 5 official visits, and only 1 per school. They can take as many unofficial visits as the wish. I couldn't find anything limiting the number of official visits a school and sponsor except that they are limited by their budget.

Any idea how long that's been in place or has there always been a limitation on official visits? Is there a limit to how many offers schools can make? I wouldn't think so but I have heard that on the football side but never seen it officially stated.

In addition to the 28 schools are allowed as you cited above that article also says recruits can take 15 official visits, up from 5. Both seem like a ton of visits both for the schools and players. Why bother with any restrictions at all?

There's a limit in football, so I just assumed it stands to reason there's one for basketball and other programs. Otherwise, the rich programs would be bringing hundreds of prospects for OVs. Verification is required, but football prospects can take up to FIVE official visits. I'd like to see that increased, just in case the occasional 4- and 5-star recruit might wish to check us out but has used his trips for Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, or any two of the other top programs.
