Story: Kyle Smith reportedly gets 6-year deal at $1.4 million per yr

Seems reasonable. I assume if he does well, there is incentives in this. I can't image any coach taking this job without some level of security. I'm curious if that 500K includes money for travel.

I also imagine that they will come in and evaluate the talent we have and possibly make some moves.

Crazy it begs the question, is a coach with his overall records at two non de script lower level programs worth 1.4 mil per year? Damn Chun has started digging his own grave with false bravado from sgt schultz. This is what two "great basketball mind s "came up with?. They got their shinola mixed up somewhere in the process. Both may not last out his contract.Did someone here say something about 300 K again? Six years of having him as the head coach?Of course we will hear "its a marathon not a sprint" and the craziness will continue.I will look back at what these three stooges do as other analyze and chart his losses.:)

Median actual attendance at Coug games this year couldn’t have been more than 900-1000. He had no choice but to make this move.

So his wife Katie went to HS in Manson. Played basketball against Jen Greeny.
Go Trojans.

From the amazing basketball mind of Elcomanche.....Aaron Cheatum will be an instant starter...Josh Hawkinson is undeserving of a D-1 scholarship....Devonte Cooper will be an impact player from the beginning...Ernie Kent will be the coach at WSU for at least two more years so just deal with it....along with so many other great insights it’s really hard not to laugh at a guy who is so confident he is right all the time but rarely is even close.
To be fair I don't even think Bone thought Hawkinson would be an impact player. The rest is spot on. The live for Kent is jaw dropping. I was hoping for a different coach but I am no expert so time to let the hire play out.

The value added equation on this is whether or not Smith is worth 1.4 million for 5 years more than what Kent was giving you. I'm not sure. I will say it's going to be easier to approach donors who like basketball about chipping in because there is a credible future to sell to folks now. It's up to Chun and team to turn this hope into cash.

I don't mind a 5 year contract... it's the automatic rollover than I have a problem with. And I don't think that is in the contract, is it?

I don't see any problem with a rolling 1 year extension given progress is made. That means there's another season upon which to show improvement and gain that rollover back.

The problem is a 5 year contract with another 5 year extension tacked on midway through non-improvement.

But that's the problem. In a "rebuilding" scenario, the excuses roll on. So they ask for the extension, get it, without improvement. Once I see improvement, great. Tack on a 3 year extension or whatever. But for the first 1-3 years, it's given, and normally so, without improvement because it's "rebuilding".

Not my flavor. This is how we got "stuck" with Mr. Kent.
