And I'm still totally pissed and bummed. And all the "it was the snow" BS doesn't fly with me. Browning and his WR (whoever on the trick play) didn't have any problem throwing in the snow, their WR's didn't have any problem catching in the snow. The snow is harder on the defense because they have to react to the WR's cuts. Everyone knows that.

Love him and appreciate all he has done, but GMII totally choked last night. He had guys open. You could tell from the first 3 and out that he was wayyy off. Hell he had guys open then.

I don't even want to think about watching the replay, but when anyone does just look for the open guys. They were there. Oline gets no awards, but they weren't that bad.

Now I want to go back to bed. Or start drinking. This one will sting for a long time.
Oh, and no Heisman invite. That's gone.
No NY 6 bowl - we are going to drop like a rock in ALL the polls. If Utah beats the mutts they will get the Alamo Bowl. We get the third bowl - unless that's the Holiday Bowl? They won't want us again. What's after that - the Sun Bowl?

If WSU drops like a rock and falls out of the NY6 and the mutts lose the Pac-12 championship game, who do you really think that the Alamo Bowl is going to want?

10-2 WSU ranked #13 with a coach with strong Texas ties, a fan base that is thrilled with a chance for our first ever 11 win season and a legion of Texas Tech fans that might consider going to the game or 9-4 UW ranked around #18 whose fans are going to be bummed about a disappointing season that failed to meet expectations and choked in the conference championship game? Or do they pick 8-4 Stanford who doesn't travel well, was in San Antonio last year?

Personally, I believe that we are going to the Fiesta Bowl but I'm confident that the Alamo Bowl wants us over everyone else in the conference.

You're right that Browning & Company did not struggle throwing the ball. And you're right to be suspicious when the loser points to externalities like weather - it sounds lame.

What you're not taking into consideration is that our ENTIRE offense is predicated on throwing the ball, and theirs is not. They can soften us up running Gaskin who is going for 6+ per carry, and then boot/play action. Does everyone realize they killed 9 MINUTES of game clock to end the game? We knew exactly what they were going to do and we couldn't stop them. We don't have that. We can't run the ball when they know we're going to run it, and Minshew can't see downfield (nor can receivers properly block, run routes or catch) to pass, so we're limited to checkdowns and swing passes and 2-yard rushes in weather like that.

I know it's an unsatisfying excuse and it sounds like sour grapes from losers, but there is no doubt in my mind we win that game even in last week's conditions.

PS we park our cars in the same garage emotionally here. I really envy the people who are racking up 'zen' posts and backing down frustrated Coug posters minutes after the game when the wound is still bleeding. I'm thrilled for a 10+ win season and would take the deal again in a heartbeat. However, I would like to see us add some vintage Baylor/Oregon wrinkles to weather-proof our system. We all want the same thing here.

I disagree with two things:

The OL was that bad. UW consistently got pressure rushing 3 against 5. That’s what let them drop 7 and take away pretty much everything. They were a strength this year, but last night they collectively shat the bed.

Second, we’re not out of an NY6 game. People ahead of us are going to lose, we have a decent chance of staying in contention. And even if we don’t, the Alamo is likely to take us over Utah or UW.

Where I agree...yes the sun came up. And realistically, who of us predicted 10 wins this season? We were far better than expected even by fans. So as much as it stings, it’s still a great season.

Nah, it's ok. I love being called a loser and compared to Ed because I'm frustrated and pissed, voicing the same opinion as many in here but getting flamed for it. Message board tough guys are super cool, especially those who think they are better than others because they shrug their shoulders as getting curb stomped, again.

The most frustrating thing is that the Cougs keep taking a knife to a gun fight, but even moreso last night. Leach has to come up with a wrinkle or adjust for the conditions. I felt bad for GM because it felt like he just got thrown to the wolves. " Here, go run this totally-ineffective-in-the-snow offense. Good luck."

I guess if you are so emotionally stable that you don't care about losing the CFP, Rose Bowl, NY6 bowl all in one shot, good for you. I'm with Loyal and am super bummed and not overly giddy with the prospect of San Antonio.

I like that..."zen posts".

The weather ruined the game for us, as it usually does for high flying offensive teams. It bit UW in 1992. It was our turn last night, unfortunately.

We also need to remember that this offense wasn't invented in North Dakota. I can accept the fact that the reason the air raid works under certain conditions, but there's not that check down that normally occurs. The normal options aren't going to be there...so they needed to deal with reality (the snow and all that it entailed) effectively and create some new options based upon that factor. I don't know if there was someone in the room asking "what if it continues to snow throughout the game?" while they were scheming on offense. "And then what?" The uw plan B seemed to be....we'll run the ball in designed plays, but then seek to hit one of our faster receivers for longer yardage. They just got ahead and then hung on while the snow piles up. There's no super coolness, just a little acceptance that they had a better Plan B than we did. And as far as "being fed to the wolves" the entire team suffered this loss. Gawd, I'm so tired of people having so much sympathy for only the QB. I guess it makes it easier than thinking about the entire team and their loss.

I wish I had the same belief and conviction you do, but there is doubt in my mind that we beat them even in ideal weather conditions. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be possible, just that I'm not so sure. It's a bad matchup seemingly every year no matter the venue, the weather, and yes, even the talent level. I despise Lake, but he has a good point about preparing to play vs. WSU. You know what's coming just about ever play...and that's a lot easier to stop than having to recognize something different.

I'm very happy with the season as a whole, but it's very understandable why some Cougar fans are frustrated today. But I agree, Chip. We all want the same thing.

Glad Cougar

Negative Alamo at worst. Whoever loses the PAC-12 champ drops below us. Alamo ain’t taking a boring 4 loss team over an exciting 2 loss higher ranked team. No blizzards in domes our offense will be flying again.

You’re an idiot. Snow always favors the defense because YOU can’t cut to begin with.

So while your receivers are slower and slowed guess what that gives... more time for the pass rush. The plays/routes are slower to develop.

Browning threw the ball 14 times total. TOTAL.

They rushed it 44 times.

75% of the time UW rushed it. Why would they do it if the “snow favors the passing offense” like you claim. Because it doesn’t. It doesn’t favor the passing offense. It favors the rushing offense.

Which is exactly what Petersen did. He played to the strengths, rushing Gaskin behind a big offensive line. Over and over.

It looked like Gaskin had track cleats on. Maybe someone should of examined his shoes.

I don’t know about cleats, but he’s a good running back and honestly their game plan wasn’t some genius thing. Hand it to him let him run until he breaks it.

Meanwhile we have 4 WRs and RBs running routes trying to cut on ice in low visibility massive snow against white jersey defenders and Loyal over here thinks it’s somehow bs that the weather affected the game.

We need a smarter fan base not a dumber one. Raise admission standards please.

Quotes like this one make it sound like WSU literally only played one defensive coordinator this season that knows what he doing and it is this Lake character.

How exactly is this WSU team 10-2 right now if the air raid so easy to stop ? Seriously would love to know. You guys are way too prone to buy into some schmuck who apparently is not even talented enough to sniff a Head Coaching position at the age of 42. Let him talk when he is the Head Coach of a team that goes 10-2 in any conference .

Look, Asshole, don't call me an idiot. In fact, don't call anyone on this site an idiot after your gawd knows how many post defense of your TRULY IDIOTIC and nonsensical idea of moving Apple Cup to October in Ellensburg. That has to be the stupidest shit ever posted here. and EVERYONE agreed.

Now, back to your post. Have you ever actually played football at any level? And have you played in wet, muddy and yes, snowy conditions? I have.

I said "The snow is harder on the defense because they have to react to the WR's cuts. Everyone knows that." Everyone but you that is. I should have said "DB's" instead of defense because I was speaking about DB's vs WR's. Go watch the 1992 Snow Bowl and you will see it.

And I did not say "Snow favors the passing offense". Of course a run-oriented team is in a better position than a pass happy team in inclement conditions. Your BS above bears no resemblance to anything I said. Dumbass.

That surprised me too.
Yeah what happened to superior athletes and recruiting. You are talking about UWs best offensive player getting run down from behind by just a guy on WSUs defense. The talent gap is minimal if negligible. Again, chill the F out everyone this is a 12-1 team if it’s 30 and clear yesterday.

Yes I played football. I played quarterback and started for my high school. And I know for a fact that snow doesn’t favor the offense when trying to get it to receivers. Especially if you are throwing based on timing.

1992 snow bowl doesn’t mean a damn thing.
It’s snowed several times for the Apple Cup and the series record is 73-32. Seventy three to 32.

October Apple Cup at a neutral site is actually one of the smartest things posted on here but stupid people like you that apparently love playing a game at the end of the year with a disadvantage are TOO STUPID, to realize it.

But keep setting us up for failure instead of success. You are either a masochist or an idiot if you want to continue the trend of playing an important game at the end of season against a program with 3-4 times the resources and player depth in hostile weather.

That’s a receipe for 73-32. And honestly it is what we deserve until we start going on the attack and putting us in a position to succeed for the long run.

Peterson would have had the exact same game plan if the game was played in the middle of October in Ellensburg , both offensively and defensively .

Agree, which is why the snow benefitted UW so much yesterday. Running the ball and playing defense was already their game plan. The snow just enhanced it.

I'm pretty close to flushing this loss, but I don't buy the snow excuse. Unless someone can explain why the Huskies were able to catch long passes and we were not. I got pretty distracted at the game at times, but from what I saw, the UW db's never had to defend the whole field,

Which is what I said multiple times. GMII had a bad night. Bad. Go read my "Replay on Root" thread. I started logging all the open guys he didn't throw to and got reamed for picking on him. Well which is it? Air Raid can't work in the snow, or our QB had a bad game, probably because he has never SEEN snow and freaked out.

Minshew wasn’t comfortable throwing the frozen loaf and browning was. Why I’m not sure anyone can tell you. Was pretty obvious though was not coming out of GM2s hand very well.

They were able to play with two high safetys once the snow mucked things up. Basically keeping us from getting one on one shots deeps. We needed to keep our safeties close to the LOS for run support.

Agreed about GM2 having a bad night. It happens. Don't know about you, but giving him that freedom makes the loss a little easier to take.

I've learned to stay away from social media for 24 hours after a game like that. Works well for me.

Easy answer - our OL didn’t play well. UW consistently got pressure rushing 3, so they were able to drop 7.
When we were on D, the snow somewhat negated the “speed D”. More importantly, we got caught too many times selling out against the run, and blowing our containment. I don’t really think our defensive approach was bad (focus on the run, make Browning beat us). The problem was execution, particularly around the defense’s right side.

Reading some of the posts here I feel I can suggest something.
Unlike the previous three years this year's team and their fans would not mind playing the UW again in good weather and field conditions. That is the difference from the previous years.
The talent gap is closing and the Cougs picked up another commit who has at least 10 offers including USC, Arizona and Colorado.

Yeah I'm hyped about Chapman and about this class in general, because it's loading up on players at our thinnest spots. Combined with last year's group I think you're seeing the foundation to sustained success. I also think next year will be good to us because I don't see Stanford or UW being as good as they are now. To me WSU and Oregon are the opening favorites to win the North next season, based on returning talent.

Combined with last year's group I think you're seeing the foundation to sustained success. I also think next year will be good to us because I don't see Stanford or UW being as good as they are now. To me WSU and Oregon are the opening favorites to win the North next season, based on returning talent.
All depends on QB play. If Herbert (who really hasn't had that good of a season) goes pro, the Ducks will be challenged to even match this year's record. They will have to play at UW & Stanford next year (but they get the Cougars in Eugene). For WSU, I believe we will get good QB play, but doubt it will match what we've seen from Minshew. Even though we have solid players returning in most other positions and will have another year of experience, so much of this year's success is tied to what Gardner was able to do.

I'm already looking forward to next year, though.

Yeah I don’t see us favored to win the North with a question mark at QB again although with how tight the competition was in the offseason, I expect whoever wins the job to play well.

I hate to say it but UW is gonna be UW. Eason will start they will have talent all over the place They will lose 2 or 3 sloppy games because that’s what CP does, and they will be a tough matchup for us again.

Who knows on everyone else. I could see UCLA being a surprise team next year like we were this year.

Are you not getting the attention you want?
