Thanks Kurt - I had not seen this. Funny though, today I pulled up the recent e-mail from Anne McCoy, all sunny and happiness. No mention of this development.WSU is cutting men’s and women’s field events and limiting sprint events going forward. School will continue indoor/outdoor distance events and cross country.
I recognize football drives the budget, but this is ineptitude at its finest by the university and AD. You keep these other athletic programs afloat, whatever way possible. Either kill all athletics or figure it out. Cutting other programs to "save" football is busch f*cking league.
Keep 85 football scholarships, screw the 105. If you want to play, you'll get on the field. Football should take the cut and that money can cover other sport scholarships. WSU can't even use football to prop up their marketing correctly.
WSU isn't f*cking serious about anything.
How very WSU.
... we have 9 deputy/associate athletic directors, 17 coaches 4 GAs and 14 staff for football alone, 5 in the athletics business office - distinct from the 7 in CAF, 1 in branding, and 4 in marketing and promotions, 1 in social media and 2 more in creative video. Athletics has 186 staff members listed on their website.

Because there's no reason to use the nest egg for propping up.Maybe @CougEd or @Loyal Coug1 can explain, but why can't Ann McCoy take a slice of the Pac-12 nest egg and prop up the track and field program until she comes up with a better idea and/or the next Pac-12 media deal in the 2030's?
At a certain point that wind is nothing but a fart.how many times can a “windfall” be spent?
how much can this realisticlly save? not much is my guess, cut a couple of administrators and keep tack wholeFirst Texas State, now this
No high jump, no pole vault, no discus or hammer or shot put.
WSU athletics has jumped the shark. Fonzie McCoy.
Unbelievable.
Why not both 🤷how much can this realisticlly save? not much is my guess, cut a couple of administrators and keep tack whole

Expanding on this. I looked at WSU's FY24 EADA Report (link below). It says we had 10 FT FB coaches and 4 PT (Grad assistants). Now we have 17 FB coaches and 4 Grad Assts. How very WSU.
We're cutting a portion of a program that has relatively low costs, but we're not looking at the fact that we have 9 deputy/associate athletic directors, 17 coaches 4 GAs and 14 staff for football alone, 5 in the athletics business office - distinct from the 7 in CAF, 1 in branding, and 4 in marketing and promotions, 1 in social media and 2 more in creative video. Don't forget the 3 employees for "employee experience."Expanding on this. I looked at WSU's FY24 EADA Report (link below). It says we had 10 FT FB coaches and 4 PT (Grad assistants). Now we have 17 FB coaches and 4 Grad Assts.

In Compliance - we have a Deputy AD, Director, Associate Director and an Asst Director. 4 in all. When I was at WSU we had 2. And we don't have more athletes. Plus, shouldn't Compliance be easier since there aren't any rules to follow anymore?
Video/Marketing, etc. I count 8 staff, gotta hunt around, they are in 3 departments, Not counting the 3 that are in the FB staff totals. Or the 5 people in the Media area.

Oh and footnote for you semi-literates. It's Anne McCoy, not Ann.

Could there have been a lazier hire than McCoy? When we needed a careful and meticulous job search, in light of the dire circumstances we face, they hired Marcia Saneholtz II. A 20+ year minion in and part of an office that has been chronically mismanaged and is woefully inefficient. In what universe does that remotely qualify you for probably the toughest job in collegiate athletics going? And they wonder why WSU is hemorrhaging enrollment. Kids know that the school is in a death spiral. AnnE McCoy as AD is just further evidence.Article in the Spokesman this morning. Chappy is furious
WSU athletics is absolutely tone deaf. Never again buying their bullshit about “student-athletes”. It’s all about perpetuating a bloated budget with lord knows how many executive assistant senior associate made up title vice presidents
Show some leadership, Fonzie. Right size your department. This woman is a bizarro cross of Bill Moos drunken spending and Jim Sterk penny pinching - except she can’t differentiate on why athletics exists in the first place - for the athletes.
Disgusting performance.
That doesn’t make this wholesale gutting of the program easier to swallow. Chaplin, a long-time donor as well as the builder of the program, insisted he’s taking the Rono statue project he’s ramrodded off campus.
“I don’t want my name attached to the university in any way,” he said. “I’m embarrassed to be a graduate of WSU.”

Decent accountant would have chopped headcount. Big time. They were more interested in a bean counter than a manager.
I was very happy when one of the new president's first acts was to eliminate the Pullman chancellor position. That was a stupid idea.Decent accountant would have chopped headcount. Big time.

Bbbbuu….I was very happy when one of the new president's first acts was to eliminate the Pullman chancellor position. That was a stupid idea.
Unfortunately, she hasn't cut anything since, she's just continuing to talk about "a new model" without really saying what that means.
Somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of the athletic department staff could be cut and nobody would even notice.

Office of the Chancellor for WSU Pullman is being dissolved effective June 1Wait - I had not seen that. Prove it. And a glance at our Leadership roster, verbiage still refers to it although our 'Global" Chancellor is currently serving as both. Still, if this is true fix the main G-D WSU website already.
Oh another thing on the main page - WSU's tribal land acknowledgement (link below). Very nicely done, except the link it provides for "data" takes you to a site called landgrabu.org. This site is not exactly flattering to WSU or any University. No need to have that there.

You beat me to my edit above.Office of the Chancellor for WSU Pullman is being dissolved effective June 1
Cillay stays on at Global - although I'm not sure why a virtual campus needs a chancellor at all.
You beat me to my edit above. But your link is better. I need to keep up. Good article. Not sure I understand swapping Student affairs to the Provost and taking the Office of Research, but I'll cut her slack given the other changes, including eliminating the VP of Strategy position (vacating) and that "office". Like that she's moving (moved?) into the Prez Res.
As far as Chancellors go, I agree. Also, an Everett Chancellor?

Chaplin's pissed. Rightfully so, it's a slap in the face. The university/AD just tossed a program aside instead of trying to make it work.
If you haven't seen his quotes in The Spokesman, here are two of 'em:
- “I feel like going over to the alumni center and chopping that tile with my name on it out of the floor”
- “I don’t want my name attached to the university in any way...I’m embarrassed to be a graduate of WSU.”
Don't forget the part about Anne McCoy refusing interview requests after releasing the statement. Boy, real accountability and transparency.Chaplin's pissed. Rightfully so, it's a slap in the face. The university/AD just tossed a program aside instead of trying to make it work.

I wish we had a journalist, well-placed alumni, anyone who would demand some transparency from Athletics. Frankly, what I have now read tells me that our new President is showing transparency and decisiveness. How much do the T&F cuts save? What administrative cuts have you or will you make? What do all your Senior Associate AD's make and what do they all do? (Looking at you Ike). What's with all the additional coach and staff positions in FB?
Oh but no. But be sure to donate to the CAF and NIL. Trust us to make sure those dollars are well spent. Having Chaplin make a statement like that is pretty F-ing serious. Waiting for Walden to chime in.
