I can think of 1 guy that left WSU and was successful in the last 25 years.

By successful I mean went to another P5 school and was a starter.

Most recent one I can recall is Devontae Butler Booker. A couple QBs here and there but I don’t know if they were successful.

Jake Rodgers went to Eastern and then ended up playing in the NFL. I’d count him even though he didn’t go to a P5.

Squally Canada to BYU. Didn’t follow how he did there but believe he was a contributor at a minimum.

Was Champ Simmons (sp?), LB who transferred to U$C and had a solid career there, more than 25 years ago??

If so....I am getting REALLY OLD!!

Only 19 years ago. He redshirted/sat out in 2001 and started for USC in 2002.

Peyton Bender started for Kansas after getting his grades in order in JC.

He is the only guy I can think of.

Once you leave WSU, significantly more often than not, you arent going to a better program, you arent moving up the ladder, you arent going pro, etc.

I wouldnt. I wouldnt count Chris Ivory either.
Cool. Sort of a narrow view of success IMO. To me you’ve had more success if you’ve played your way to a pro contract at any school vs getting some starter snaps at a P5. Your criteria though so have at it.

I made a post about guys transferring to P5 schools and doing well. That was my criteria.

Who are any of us to say whether a kids decision to transfer was right or wrong, or whether he'll regret it or not? More importantly, why does it matter? We don't know why he opted out, but that was his decision to make.

And while there aren't a lot of football examples of it "working out better" for athletes who have transferred, there are several examples in other sports, namely basketball, where it worked out exceptionally well. Malachi Flynn at San Diego State is the most recent. Josh Akognon is another.

You guys realize that pointing out that transfers from WSU rarely do well at other P5 schools isn’t exactly a good thing
That is not unusual at all schools. There is a reason why most players transfer. They weren't good enough at their previous school and are transferring to get playing time. Turns out, most transfers are not good enough at their new school either.

No catches on Saturday.
Back on topic...

The Cowboys only had 14 catches on 20 attempts for 138 yards. What a stark contrast to what the kid is used to. He’ll be lucky to have 3 catches a game in that offense.

I wish him well and hope he is happy and getting his degree. And I hope he’s having fun along with his new team. It doesn’t feel like this was a path to the NFL if that was part of the motivation for the move this year (yes... I realize there is the family motivation as well).

Seriously though. Unless they are in the same city, it is kind of meaningless. Being a thousand miles closer, still leaves another thousand miles away from his family.

Losing an NFL o-lineman to effing Eastern was such a kick in the dick.
Not really. He was one of the players that wasn't behind the new staff and what they wanted to do. WSU lost a talent in the short term, but developed better leadership with him gone.

He’s only got 3 flights from OKC instead of 4 flights from Pullman

Jake Rodgers is a really good kid. He may not have lined up with Leach's vision - but by no means was he a troublemaker or dissenter. Used to coach against him and he was a class act. Good leader, good competitor. Don't paint him as something he wasn't.

FWIW, I don't know that the prior statement is counter to yours, although it can be taken that way. You can not get along with your coach an still be a good person. Coug1990 didn't disparage him and say negative things about his personality.

Well, it's only two flights but it is through DFW, which is a terrible airport to have to transfer at. Don't discount that his family and friends can drive to Stillwater for a game if they want. Long drive but something that they could do if they want.

It was a joke. I agree with the poster on this and found it odd myself why someone would make that move to be “closer to home” and still be 1000 miles from home. It’s one thing to choose a school out of HS that’s “closer to home” but when you’ve established yourself somewhere and only have a year or 2 left of being there...kinda tough to make sense of it.
This transfer portal thing I don’t think is the greatest model for kids who make emotional and often irrational decisions without thinking them through.
