Ok, wtf am I missing? Ewers is - as the kids would say - "mid" at best. Underwhelming would be the first word I would use to describe his game.

What is "supplemental salary"?

Its good Caleb got his money early because playing behind Chicago's line could very well end his career early.

Yeah there’s going to be plenty of examples of this stuff where it’s actually more lucrative for these kids to stay in college. Same applies to Cam deciding to take the money at Miami when he was probably a 4th or 5th rounder after his last season at WSU. That doesn’t net you a whole lot of guaranteed $$ compared to a $2-3M one year payday to stay another year.

In some ways it’s better for the kids though as they don’t make rash decisions to leave school early and pursue the NFL. The Cougs had a couple of players who chose this route and it didn’t work out, I’m sure they would have made different decisions if NIL money had been an option.

Cam’s decision is going to look pretty good, unless he tanks in his workouts somehow. He’s most likely going top 4.

Giants, Patriots, Browns, and Titans Look like the top 4. Patriots aren’t in the QB market, the other 3 are. Somebody can probably fill their gap with Kirk Cousins if they choose to, the others get to choose between Sanders and Ward.

Regardless, he’s going to get something in the ballpark of what Williams got last year…which is a hell of an improvement over last season.

Oh for sure, he absolutely made the right decision. And hate to say it but helped himself with the team he went to which loaded up with Oline and skill talent and played against mostly bad defenses. He couldn’t have done much better.

Also doesn’t mean Mateer is following the exact same path. I’m not rooting against him just pointing out he’s not a sure fire first rounder just because cam was in a similar spot a year ago.

The fact that adults would contribute to paying a college "student" $6 million per year shows how insane the world has become.

Trump's fault.

I don’t disagree with you but if you do the math it’s not that hard to see why this kind of money is there. If a larger university has 200K alumni (not including fans who didn’t attend the university) and they averaged say $100 contribution a year, that’s $20M. That is just collective, doesn’t include big money donors throwing around a mill here and a half mill there, marketing opportunities for their businesses, etc.

So if you look at the NFL model where QB1 mean salary is about 15% of roster cap, you’ve got $3M right there. For the bigger programs with $50M or more in NIL needing a QB, $5-$6M is what you’re gonna see if not more.

NO ONE here has a right to say "you can't do that" when it comes to paying players to play.

If we live in a country where tax dollars have to pay for sex changes for people in prison and putting kitty litter boxes in elementary and middle school bathrooms... then people should be able to buy football players.

Valid point...but my solution is different. I'd just say no to the sex changes and litter boxes. And the choosing of pronouns.

If we are going to say 18 is an adult... why can't we say boy has a penis and girl has a vagina?
You CAN safely say that in probs 98% of the cases.

WHY DO YOU CARE SO MUCH? Are you being harmed by someone's personal choice in how they choose to identify and live in this FREE country? Should this even be a "blip" on the radar of important issues today?

Because personal choosing of pronouns is such a national crisis and affects another person exactly how?
It doesn't. And if you like to go by "she" or "they" but I call you "he" it doesn't affect you either. If someone can sue me or have me fired for "misgendering" them, then I should be able to sue them for calling me an asshole.

The bigger problem is that we've allowed a minor affront toward a diminishingly small segment of the population to turn into a massive flashpoint, headlines, and 6-7 figure court judgements.

Maybe it shouldn't affect them, ideally.

But suppose you as a cis-gender male were continually referred to as "she" either by fellow workers or supervisors, even after making it clear that you were bothered/offended by that, wouldn't you have a case for HR under harassment?

If a trans-women makes it clear to fellow workers they would like to be identified as a "she" and you have someone like 5591 continually referring to them as "he" (a sure sign of disrespect and or harassment) how would you suggest that be handled?

I'm just using common sense.

No one can show proof that it's healthy to force kids to be around chicks with dicks... bearded drag queens reading supposed children's stories.

Nor should my tax dollars have to pay for it.

Parents shouldn't get in trouble for wanting/hoping their kids are straight and trying to keep them in environments that show what's normal and abnormal.

People can be what they want to be, but don't force it upon others and don't make the country's tax dollars pay for it.

Anti-Trump people don't seem to understand that's one of the biggest reasons they lost.

But hey... go ahead... keep on truckin'. Just stay in yo lane

This preferred pronoun thing has always baffled me. What exactly is the point, and who is it directed to? What percentage of Americans want to be called a gender that they are not? Seems pretty clear to me. If you have a dick, you are a "he". If you have a vagina, you are a "she". If you have both or neither, I am stumped - I guess you are an "it"?

Common sense is often wrong.

What do you mean "forcing kids to be around chick's with dicks"? Forcing where? In school? Are you saying separate them? I suspect your main issue is with trans-women, not trans-men. Probs also have a bigger issue with gay dudes than gay women.

I agree with you here. Tax dollars should not be used for that

Where exactly are parents getting in trouble for what you claim? Nor should they be if it ever were the case.

is it "forcing" to ask to be recognized in a way they find more genuine? Or is this more a case of the majority attempting to force social "norms" on a minority. Homosexuals already had to deal with this.

Agree on this impacting the election because dems catered too much to it leaving a massive vulnerability to be exploited.

Do you personally feel your "lane" is being violated and impacted?

You’re debating someone who believes litter boxes are being put in school bathrooms

Yes. As a parent when my child has to get lectured in calling a boy a girl when HE is not a girl is just another form of fruit loop programming.

When teachers are going through trainings on how not to offend by saying things like Merry Christmas, but have to stand and watch a kid sprint across the road vs. grabbing and restraining... it's fruit loop programming.

But again... go on with your bad self if you think this stuff isn't happening.

Aretha Franklin had it right. R E S P E C T.

I know people named James who do not wish to be called Jim or Jimmy. Same for John/Jack/Johnny/Jacky, William/Bill/Billy, Michael/Mike/Mikey. If I am aware of their preference, I observe it, regardless of whether we are talking about proper nouns or pronouns.

The nature of a two party system is that each party will lean too far in their direction in order to be secure with their base, even when it is at the expense of not reaching out for the folks in the middle. In many cases I am left p*ssed off by both.

I find that when I get drawn into these sorts of conversations, I end up less irritated if I first consider what "respect" means, and to whom, before I speak. Then I try to frame my response based on that somewhat situational interpretation of respect, leavened by what is likely to do the least harm. I also try hard (not always successful, but I try) to avoid dignifying with my time & attention those public figures whose income is directly tied to how easily they can stir up an emotional response to outlandish statements. There is an entire clickbait industry out there whose income is directly proportional to how easily they can short circuit rational thought.

I do admit to being moderately irrational myself when it comes to WSU, and I can't really enter into a conversation about Carol Folt, Jennifer Cohen, Ana Mari Cauce or (now) Pat Chunk without becoming caustic in a hurry. So please don't take this as a case of me accusing others of something to which I myself don't occasionally fall victim.

Trump's fault.

Came in here to talk football -- of course it's devolved into a ****ing culture wars thread. Only question is how many posts it takes.
I admit throwing the 'Trump's Fault" in to chum the waters.

Didn't realize the piranhas didn't have anything to eat over the holidays.

Still crazy to pay $6M for a college athlete. Insane.

I'm not saying some of this isn't happening somewhere.

I'm saying your level of concern/fear/outrage is either falsely informed, irrational, or wildly overblown...shit, actually all the above.

Hope you are able to sleep with all your fears. Taihtsat

If I'm referring to someone using a pronoun, I'm talking to a 3rd person, not to them. So there shouldn't be an issue.

Regardless, the easy workaround - I use their name....then I don't have to worry about what pronouns they "prefer."

The one that gets me is the ones who want to be referred to as "they." That's a plural pronoun. Unless you have multiple personalities, or you're a Siamese twin (or conjoined twin for those who prefer), "they" is not appropriate.

You haven't been in the presence of a transgender person in a group setting where it would be common to say something like:

"Ask her" or "that's not what she just said" or "are you talking about him" etc, etc.

It can truly matter to that person especially if they have made their preference clear and you just flat-out disregard their wishes right in front of them.

You don't seem like someone who would truly do that - just because or intentionally unlike some others around here. Also, I admit "they" is a tough one.

Edit to add: i also try to use the proper name as much as possible. It's much easier when your first experience with a transgender person is that person introduced as what they want. Whatsherface on jeopardy that was a 35 game+ champion...to me she's a she. Tougher when it's someone that you've known for your whole life. Taihtsat

This whole issue boils down to some folks think that they have a right to never be offended, and that they can dictate my, your, others interactions with them no matter how stupid and/or incorrect it is. That is just wrong on both counts. If we allow it, if we go along with it, what else do we let them control. Can they now dictate the rules of math to us as well as dictating the rules of grammar? If a "they" person says something like "My truth is that 2+2=5 or 7" will be required to cater to what they say in order to not offend them? Not only no, but Hell no!

See, if I am supposed to go along with others stupidity in order to not offend them, then why are they also not obligated to respect MY wish to never be offended by their insane desires.

The reality is that I understand that I actually do NOT have a right to never be offended, and I can live with that. Sadly, there are many folks out there that do not understand that.

95 - thanks, yeah. A dick and a vagina - 'they". Neither still has me stumped.

Stretch - Quit talking about me, and to answer, yes and yes.

I've not change my political views one iota in 30 years. I used to be considered a conservative. Now I'm considered by some to be on the far right. No. The left has changed, not me. They've moved much further left because they can never draw a line in the sand. And who is this "middle" you speak of?

Problem is, your entire premise is based solely on your personal feelings and not on actual biological science (generally).

You apparently can't be bothered to bring yourself to a basic level or either empathy or understanding for THIS particular issue. Shrug. Taihtsat

It is ALL about feelings. They think they have a right to not be offended, which is feelings. You can't get science out of that. Feeling that some is a "they or them" instead of "he or she" is not biological science.

Besides, can't they have some empathy and understanding for MY feelings about singular vs plural pronouns being properly defined by biological science and the English language?

Okay, I realize it is silly of me to even ask such a question, because anyone that thinks they are a plural pronoun is either to stupid or muddled by drugs in the brain to grasp the concepts.

For all of those scenarios, their proper name is easily substituted for the pronoun. Where it gets awkward is when you have to say it twice in quick succession.

I see this as political correctness gone mad - people are just looking for things to be offended by. I’m not going to waste time trying to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I’m also not going far out of my way to preserve them.

To a large degree, being offended is a choice. Choose not to be. If someone says something you find offensive, tell them once. If they keep it up, you should not consider their contributions to have any value.

That's all fine and dandy. Using the name is the best option, but as you stated it can get awkward...but only if you are deliberately refusing to address them by their preferred gender.

Yes, we do choose how and what offends us. But harassment and discrimination in the workplace is a real thing. Blacks had every right to "feel" offended. While misgendering isn't quite the same as suppression based off ethnicity, all this talk of just reducing this to only "feelings" is minimizing the difficulties this group of people face in some settings.

You complained about the possibility of being sued by misgendering someone. You know that is highly improbable unless it is a deliberate and consistent practice (in the workplace). You didn't address how you would handle the scenario I posed to you in comment #16. At what point would YOU take action?
