The New Albi Stadium

I have to disagree with you. The stadium is where the people who live here want it.

You seem like a nice guy. Don't make me throw down on you.

It was a punt fest of leadership between the City Council and the School Board and the 'advisory' vote didn't even cover the entire school district for whom are paying for it. Big swaths of the South Hill/Moran Prairie and Five Mile didn't vote.

I disagree. The "advisory vote" or whatever that was called was a total cluster. People didn't understand what they were voting on. From what I saw, the people that understood what was actually proposed were strongly in favor. It makes far more sense to add the stadium to the Sportsplex.

But such is life.

For $7 Million less under the Baumgartner plan, yes, it would have been.
If the extra $7 million means the SD is the prime tenant and controls the scheduling and the parking (access more than $), it is worth it - for them.

Slightly off topic - if this state actually had a state auditor, he/she/it could keep a staff busy for 5 years auditing all the facility rentals by public schools. (Insiders not paying rental for their "club teams", collected money not going to the proper place, etc.)

That was a highlight (besides the bogus resume) of the Times expose on Donnie Marbut - was stealing large chunks of time at Edmonds CC and reselling it to others.

Amen to that. Not necessarily even insider use, but “buddy” deals and tenuous associations being used to justify free rent for outsiders. Like “I’m a Rotary member, so my club should get free meeting space”

I am guessing if Spokane didn’t have a homeless problem downtown the vote for the stadium may have gone a different direction.
My guess is people who voted against did so because-
1. They didn’t want to pony up the money to rebuild Albi period. That wasn’t what the vote was for but I talked to enough people who were confused to be confident that was what a fair amount of people thought the issue was.
2. They thought they’d have to build a parking garage later downtown which was originally thought to be the case but later rebuked but by the time it voted people were misinformed.
3. They truly like the stadium in the far NW corner of town because they live out that way or don’t like going “downtown” due to “homelessness” or whatever reason.

obviously no way of knowing but I’d guess No 1 and No 2 were at least half the yes votes.

Nothing to do with homeless. Total misinformation and weak leadership by the school district and city council.

Take note when dgibbons and I actually agree on something. Odds are it's the absolute god honest truth.

In my social circle, it was unanimously in favor of downtown but...weird...those taxpayers who live in District 81 and HAD ALREADY APPROVED THE FUNDING FOR A STADIUM IN A PREVIOUS SCHOOL BOND didn't receive "advisory vote" ballots because they were outside the city limits. Same with more affluent areas of the north side.
