I felt like it really changed the momentum of the game. I was there (and drinking since noon) but what I saw was our guy, literally, slap the receiver on the shoulder pad after the uncatchable ball was out of the play.

I’m surprised there hasn’t been more complaint/talk about it on here. Anyone?

Weak call but the real momentum changer was the air mailed pick Mateer threw in the end zone when he had a receiver all by himself on the intermediate route. Should have been a tied game at half with us getting the ball to start Q3. When that ball got picked I knew we were toast.

There were three critical mistakes in that game that took the game away from us. As mentioned, the terrible throw by Mateer that ended up being intercepted was one, the 13 yard sack on Mateer on the drive to open the second half and the other was Dickert's boneheaded decision to run a QB keeper on 4th and inches at our 31 yard line.

We still may have lost because Jeanty is a freakin' beast but those two plays put the game out of reach. If we score before the half to tie the game and then get a touchdown to take the lead at the start of the 3rd quarter....how does the rest of that game look? If we aren't behind, does Dickert punt and we hold Boise again? We responded with a TD after their short touchdown...so do we end up leading 31-24 late in the third instead of trailing 31-17?

Jeanty was running all over us in the fourth quarter and I'm not sure that we were going to stop him, but we certainly had our chances. As mentioned above, let's hope that for Mateer, these two weeks between games gives him and the coaches some chances to watch film and end up with him being a better QB for the experience. I'd be thrilled to see us finish 11-1 and play in the Alamo Bowl again.

I’d be happy with 11-1. But I don’t think any bowl game will ever be satisfying again.

No bowl is going to be teams lining up their 1’s against each other. Most kids going into the draft are going to opt out. Anyone planning to portal will too. Even the “good” bowls are going to be like what we saw in our last two trips - kids from down the depth chart forced into starting roles because the guys ahead of them aren’t playing.

From now on, bowl games will be the equivalent of the NFL pre-season.

You aren't wrong.

I was watching the game with many friends including Armani Marsh's father and we all basically said the same thing. It was deflating and took the wind out of our sails. We never recovered from that.

I have always believed in "1 f*ck up" can completely take over the game (saw it in numerous Apple Cups... Bumpus fumble against OSU... etc...)

That running back might be one of the best in the country, but our edge containment and top heavy tackling attempts were the definition of ass.
