So Gov. Inslee is gonna remain on Bainbridge Island and do the job remotely like Schultzie the last year or two?

He's 74 next month. Maybe he's one of those guys who always has to have his finger in the pie?

Hmm. That happened relatively fast. Fingers crossed.

Rumored he’s moving to Idaho.

Google this and you will find numerous press reports where Inslee calls this rumor BS and blames it on right-wingers.

Inslee loves sports and knows how to navigate our legislator. I did not vote for him to run our state, and wouldn’t ever in the future. Were he to support our sports and move that ratio of support UW gets vs what WSU gets, I’d move from dislike to look the other way.

I don’t see this happening. Faculty would never accept him (or any other non-academic). He has no history with higher Ed leadership, research, or anything else that would qualify him for the position.
Agree, it’s a weird fit all around.

Don't forget that Vernon Lane Rawlins and Kirk Schulz had/have that Higher Ed leadership and research.

I am a hard, hard NO on Inslee, but nothing surprises me anymore. As far as politicians becoming university President's, that is nothing new.

I doubt this happens, but politicians have often become university presidents. After all, it is less an education position and more a political position.
Three additional things to say:

He’s 74. Far too old to be starting a career as a university president. We’d be looking at another search within a couple of years at most…and any minute at worst.

His cognitive decline is apparent. I doubt he could make it through an interview without some serious work to prop him up…which he (presumably) no longer has the staff for.

Before the search began, the university community was polled regarding what the priorities should be and what to look for in a president. Inslee isn’t it. If he was even a finalist, it shows that the input from that poll was completely disregarded. The wouldn’t be a huge surprise, but the university usually isn’t quite so blatant about shoving a thumb in the eye of its employees.

I thought it was well known that Inslee plans on doing something regarding climate change.
