We just dismantled a better Seattle U team than the one that beat us last year. Smith's recruits all look athletic and our hustle is great. He clearly has a plan and has the team has bought in. Not sure how anyone could be anything other than impressed with our opener

Much like his coaching buddy or Daddy, he wouldn't know a basketball Coach if it bit him in the hindy.

Better recruits in year one, better coaching in year one, better result in game 1 or year one. Coach Smith beat a fine team and a fine coach. My hat is off to the AD for firing a lousy coach and finding a darn nice replacement.

3 turn overs pretty much shows you the coaching. Players seem to be enjoying themselves -- all of them.

The interesting thing is that we looked better getting out in transition than Ernies up tempo style.

First of all, don't ever mention *that person* by name in a thread.

Regarding the game, it's already apparent how much more organized the team is. There will still be plenty of opportunities for *that person* to spew her troll talk about our team. We don't have any size or inside presence, so we'll have our share of bad matchups, but there's no denying that the team has bought into the system. The hustle and offensive flow was impressive; particularly because they were able to play fast on offense and still maintain their defensive fundamentals. That's one of the hardest balances to achieve in basketball.

I tend not to look at a blow out win or the win itself . Because we will get blown out this year and have a game or two where it looks like we took a step back.

I only saw about 10 minutes of the game . There was a stretch where they played slightly out of Kyle smith control. Quick shot in the shot clock etc., but they backed doored SU a couple of times and they made the pass to get a layup .
Also on defense if someone got beat someone slid over to help. There were no freebies.

it does appear that smith has a real solid plan for WSU and it looks like kids are buying in .

But probably as important he and his staff are relentless recruiters willing to turn over every stone.

I found Smith's post-game presser illuminating and a sea-change of refreshing in comparison to his predecessor. He was believable and self-effacing. No further comment necessary.

Smith seems to exude a quiet confidence without resorting to hyperbole and self-aggrandizing. Refreshing indeed.

Glad Cougar

Only negative I saw was shot selection. Not having a drop dead catch and shoot guy makes it worse. Ball movement was good, but it would be nice to have that guy hanging out in the corner

Kunc's will get there in time but I still don't know if he's physically there to handle a lot of minutes once we get into conference. Elleby's pretty good as well.

I really liked Shead and Bonton's game and also thought Robinson looked improved with the changes however none of those players are what you would describe as "drop dead catch and shoot" guys. We need to recruit that.

Well i will really not follow men s basketball this year. But i noticed the salutation . I am glad to see how well Kent s recruit Elleby is doing The year of experience for Kent s recruits is paying off.I do not need "prayers" as i am enjoying Laker s basketball and look forward to traveling to Pullman to see the women's team this year. Kami is building a good team, Cheers

I predict you will end up following the men's basketball team this year and won't be able to resist the temptation to keep posting negative comments about Smith and the team whenever they have a tough game. On the other hand, when they do something good, you'll remain silent or try to minimize the accomplishment (hence your reference to Seattle U. losing to EWU in another thread). Whether you stay away or chime in doesn't matter to me. I haven't been this interested in Cougar basketball in at least 8 years and there's nothing you can write that will dampen my enthusiasm.

Glad Cougar

His obsession with Smith is hilarious. I look forward to hearing the excuses and downplaying of progress over the next year. Nevermind Franks was an NBA talent (who Kent couldn't build a team around), nevermind Elleby was also an NBA talent last year, and nevermind Flynn bolted on Kent.

We got nothing but excuses as to why we didn't have success under Ernie Kent and we'll get nothing but excuses as to why Smith was able to turn things around.
