Here is a left field topic for those of you who like to have a couple of beers at the bar. Alcohol sensors (for you criminals, better known as ignition interlocks) required in cars.

I actually kind of like this notion. IF the sensor/interlock is set at the legal limit, not .02 or some BS like that. Have 3-4 beers? No problem if you blow below .08. Off you go. Too high? Well, either get a ride or hang out until you get below it. No reporting of "fails". Just won't start. All that said, no one can tell me that very many alcohol-caused accidents and deaths are caused by the guy at .08 or .09 meandering home from happy hour. It's the .15's and .22's and above that are responsible. Washington's failed attempt to lower it to .05 last year was BS. That is 2 beers for a smaller adult. I guarantee you that at .05 or .08 I am a safer driver than most of the people out there. Like the dumb chick that turned left directly in front of me and smacked me while talking to her friend not that long ago. She even admitted it to the police.

Will the system also be able to tell if someone is high from weed, coke, heroin, etc? It should.

Does anyone think that this info won't eventually make its way to insurance companies so that they can assign you to a higher risk class?

Perhaps an enhanced sensor system can he developed that will sense bad breath and BO and will disable the car from being able to leave home? Now THAT is something that society can really use!

They should also have one that measures prune juice consumption: I've had too many near-misses with "Golden Girls" this Fall, including escaping a Costco parking lot this afternoon. I will concede we did have a quarter inch of melting snow on the ground, but in all seriousness, we need a cut-off date or mandatory retesting for everyone 70 and over. Too many <25 and >70 drivers dying on the roads.

No, weed, etc. are only blood or urine testable.
On Insurance companies I was going to mention that I could see this as a potential customer discount on insurance for having one.

On old ladies (men too, one totally pulled out in front of me a few months ago. Barely swerved and missed him) yeah. They pretty much all suck. Kids and old people. And women in general. And DWO's (Driving While Oriental. or Old).
What's worse is when they drive slow, won't go when they have an opening, etc. Resulting in road rage from that growly big driver.

I’m not going to defend those who drink & drive, but I don’t think this is focusing on the real problem. DUIs are nowhere near as prevalent as DWS- driving while stupid. If they can come up with a test for that, I’d be in favor of putting it in every car, truck, train, plane, school, stadium, grocery store, courthouse, voting booth, etc.

I would suggest for police to just drive around with the rest of us instead of sitting under a tree tagging people with the radar gun going 6 miles over the speed limit. Always gets me when I see that after driving around town for 30 minutes and all of the dumbshit maneuvers I see people do.
