Boutte (La.) Hahnville ATH Rickey Preston tells WazzuWatch.com he'll sign with Washington State next month. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound playmaker can play receiver or defensive back at the next level. He'll come to Washington State as a receiver. J.J. Jackson gets the recruiting assists with this one.
In addition to Washington State, Preston, at one point, picked up offers from Nebraska, Southern Miss, Missouri, Tulane, McNeese State, Ole Miss and Texas A&M, Florida State, TCU and several top JUCO colleges.
He didn't sign with anyone due to academics throughout his recruitment, but he says he's on track to be qualified to arrive on campus this summer. Preston, a two-star prospect in the 2015 class, will likely sign a financial aid agreement in a similar way that Jeff Farrar did last cycle. The 2015 signing period ends on April 1, so anytime he signs after that he wouldn't count towards to initial 25 counters in this class, from my understanding.
"He has SEC talent that should resurface in the near future as an impact player for a major program," NOLA.com recruiting analyst James Smith said of Preston, who was named the East MVP of the Louisiana high School Coaches Association (LHSCA) All-Star Game in December. "Although Preston is a bit raw in his craft as a receiver, there is no questioning his ability.
"He has a good build and frame to go with his good speed and quickness. His hands are pretty good, and he shows decent body control. If he continues to work on the small things and further his development, Preston should fit nicely at a Division I program that can utilize his good size and speed. A solid all-around game would be the best way to describe what Preston possesses. He plays with toughness and it allows him to work the middle of the field and hold the edge when blocking."
