Taking no time in their new conference reminding UW they are 2nd tier.

Man, the De Boer hire really saved her reputation. Take that away and you have a career administrator who didn't do much and screwed up what little she did once she took over.
Too bad they just hired Riley. I’d be dying if De Boer pulled a Sark and left for SC right after they go to the Big10. UW is gonna be Rutgers West in that conference.

Don't really have anything constructive to add, just came here to laugh about it.

Oh yeah, this is what happens when you fall all over yourself to make half of what the rest of your new conference makes.

tOSU would be smart to take Jarmond from UCLA. I could see it being Jarmond to tOSU and Chun to UCLA.

Kind of surprised.

I figured Cohen as a UW lifer. From University Place, went to Curtis.

UW is likely to have some challenges moving forward.

At USC, will Riley jump to the SEC or the NFL? I sense they want him around, but USC is complaining Oregon is outspending them on NIL.

Why bother with that when he's gonna be a candidate at Ohio State
Doesn’t mean they are gonna hire him. I think Chun is on the first train out of town though. Regardless of what you think of him or how at fault he has been, he had the Rolo situation and now this, gotta believe he’s taking phone calls at this point.

The tea leaves are suggesting Chun will go to Ohio State.

I'm mixed on the guy. I liked Moos a lot. Chun, nice and all, is more of the career AD who is likely going to fit in just fine at Ohio State or any other big program. Chun made pretty good coaching hires. The Rolo hire sort of bit him, but I think Dickert is a good fit/hire, so it worked out good for us.

At WSU, we need a guy that is going to innovate. Think out of the box. Our path forward is going to require more of that. We must do more with less.

Chun probably has been taking calls for years. Wasn't he reported as being shortlisted somewhere a few years ago? I would be shocked if he's at WSU six months from now.

What WSU needs is a guy who can raise money, and Chun has done that in spades.

He's a decent job....but i think some of that is due to the success Leach had in rebuilding this.
Pretty good summary, someone here may know this guy personally I think he usually makes pretty good arguments everything Wazzu. Pretty much my angle on Chun as well.

Jarmond would be a bad hire. I don't hear anything good very about him, other than his only real reason for supporting UCLA to B10 was to get himself closer to home. Of course, maybe tosu to make a bad hire is what we want. SC just made a poor hire; I guess it makes sense for tosu to do the same.

It's reported, although since USC is private, we don't know for sure....her new salary is $2.0M a year.
Over 100 applied for the job, solicited and unsolicited. They wanted a female in that role, with no drama and no previous skeletons.

I find that to be believable. Add to that experience at the AD level, and top level alum schmoozing ability. When you put all of that together, there are at most a handful of folks out there that check all the boxes.

I predict this will end up about as well as USC poaching Sark from the UW. Cohen won't turn into a drunk, but she won't accomplish much. Jimmy Lake, Hopkins, women's basketball overall none have been great hires. She hit a home run with De Boer, but that is about it, yes football is important, and USC will probably hire De Boer when Riley leaves in 2-3 years, that is probably why they hired Cohen.

USC fans just want someone to keep status quo at worst. Cohen isn't going to be Pat Haden, Lynn Swan, etc. If she can keep things running smoothly with no scandals, most will be happy.

Look at who she inherited as her football coaches ... Chris Petersen, and she couldn't keep him around. (I'm not saying anyone could have, necessarily, but she didn't.) Her predecessor, Woodward, was the one who was aggressive and made the Petersen hire happen. She was just a career administrator in the background.

So then she hires Jimmy Lake. Massive ****-up. The De Boer hire was good, but not exactly anything requiring anything more than common sense.

Now she inherits Lincoln Riley. So does she get credit for having a top-5 college coach already on the payroll? All she has to do is keep paying the guy. Even if he bails for the NFL, nobody will blame her.

She ****ed up the Hopkins hire, baseball had NCAA violations, and I think some of UW's other sports were in bad shape.

So I guess the standard for a female AD candidate is to sit in the background for 15 years, inherit a good caoch, make one decent hire that is the only thing that really makes sense, and about half of the people on any message board would have recommended, and have two major ****-ups, in the revenue sports, to be some kind of star. Seems reasonable.

Jimmy Lake should be an automatic pink slip for anyone. I didn’t sit in on any of his interviews and I knew that was going to be a dumpster fire.

Let's not forget that De Boer was what, her 5th choice? Yes, he seems to have worked out well to this point. But hard to claim career brilliance when you luck out on your 5th choice. Sort of like how the rotten SC athletic department of the time was propped up with the hiring of Pete Carroll, who was also far from the first choice but ended up making the AD look good. Lightning does occasionally get caught in a bottle, but it is rare. Usually it is just a firefly.

Not sure Cohen had any choice but to hire Lake. He was one of the hottest up and coming names in CFB at the time and you have to know he was promised the gig by Petersen the year before he stepped down so he would not bolt.

Side note : I have never seen 2 people fall as hard as Lake and Rolo. They were young head coaches at P5 programs just 2 season ago and now neither are mentioned as potential hires anywhere at any level or position.

the Rolo situation certainly showed Chun to be a yes man....lack of character as well....he'll go to the highest bider because he has shown that he WILL follow orders no matter what...good riddance.

Fair enough. If that’s the case then why for FS would you EVER hire Petersen for that job. He’s already a worse AD than Jen Cohen then if he personally endorsed their worst hire since Tyrone.

Don’t get me wrong CP was a helluva coach but you can flop as an AD even if you are a great coach. Completely different skill sets.

For different reasons. While Rolo was not a 5-star hire, he wasn't quite the choke coach that Lake was.

Rolo and rolo alone was responsible for what happened

Rolo was way better than lake. And Rolo was a POS. Lake was in a league of his own.

he refused to follow the trrms of employment, his decision to forfeit his job pandemin or not

Yeah, thanks LTC. Just to be clear, I'm not debating whether or not RoLo was rightfully fired for his stance against mandatory vaccination for state employees

My question was is if there was no pandemic ... say, like, in the 100 seasons before — Would RoLo have done well enough, wins and losses wise, to still be the coach at WSU entering this 2023 season?
