Utah getting rid of beach volleyball

The Pac-12 collapse was a massive scramble.

UW and Oregon wanted out. They were talking to the Big-10 as soon as USC left. UW views their athletic department as "equals" to USC. I think Oregon was fine staying put in the Pac-12 and winning every season.

I really wish the powers that be, would start having discussions about creating a new strong western conference. The Pac-12 can live on and raid the rest of the Mountain West.

The Cougs should be plotting their next move. The loss of TV revenue, and now the ability to revenue share with our athletes, is going to set us way behind. The Pac-12 can't compete. We aren't going to get the media dollars necessary to compete with the power 4.

Let's either work out a deal with the ACC to form a western division (best option). I think the ACC west could pull in Utah, ASU and UA back into the fold. Add WSU, OSU and SDSU plus Stanford and Cal.

I don't expect WSU to be apart of the P4 conversation ever again. And when things blow up, they might make the conversation with the two left over conferences (ACC/BXII) but wouldn't hold my breath.

Why would the ACC want to do that right now, and how would that work with the Big 12's GOR and other complicating factors? I don't actually expect answers, but just want to illustrate why this won't happen. WSU isn't getting back into the mix absent something unexpected when the next round of realignment happens, whether due to a superconference move leaving out some other former P4/P5 schools who think they belong or otherwise. Could have, for example, the top of the ACC and Big 12 (although it doesn't really have any top schools left) get into the superconference and the remaining schools jockey to be in a conference that's the best of a tier below. If WSU can sell itself as capturing the west side of Washington and UW itself isn't also fighting for the same position, that's likely its best shot. Even then, unlikely.

Utah axing beach volleyball. Citing their move to the Big-12.

Are there any beaches in Utah?

There will be another round of realignment - at least one - as the next group of media contracts come due. The continued moves will further diminish the ACC and the Big 12, and eventually will lead to the SEC and Big 10 shedding teams. They have 16 and 18 teams right now, which isn't too bad for a number...but it's not necessarily the right teams.

Eventually - and this is probably 10 or so years down the road - after they've discarded any significance of academics, they're going to cut loose the teams that don't really bring media value. Mississippi State, Purdue, Vandy, etc. are going to be replaced by Miami, FSU, etc. It'll be an NFL-lite grouping of ~32 of the highest value teams. The other ~90 programs will be cannon fodder and feeder schools.

Best move for anyone outside of the SEC and B1G I can think of is to go with strength in numbers. In other words build a voting block for NCAA legislation and/or CFP shenanigans. The SEC and B1G are the super conferences, and they will not allow anyone else to become one, and invitations join them will be quite limited. Whether that means a full ACC-Big XII merger, formation of a separate league, scheduling agreement where the SEC and B1G schools are excluded, some of the above, all of the above, or something more creative, I would go with that. I do think that the more schools will get squeezed out as realignment continues. Or, there will be second class (maybe third class too) members that never get full shares. And the networks still need content for that wonderful 7:30 pm Pacific time slot.

So, there will be opportunities.

Is there anything keeping the SEC/Big10 from abandoning the NCAA altogether and creating their own Club with their own rules and enforcement practices?

The P2 just whored themselves for the 7pm time slot and initial word is that the money is laughable.

Tell them to take their 7pm time slot and shove it up their east coast ass unless they want to get serious about money.

"OK, fair enough - we'll give even less money to the Mountain West to fill that inventory. Good luck with the CW and local public access."

l.
You mean the reverse merger that should have been done a year+ ago? And I fixed your post. Teresa is still "swinging for the fences".

Are girls in Utah able to wear the “appropriate attire”?

Only that sports other than football are competing in and for NCAA sanctioned tournaments and championships.

That no one except you and the MWC nobodies actually wanted.
Yah Gibby. The "nobodies" that beat WSU in football and are waxing our ass in Baseball. But yeah keep up the narrative as we reel in AAC, and maybe MW, media numbers. But hey they are all chomping at the bit to join the Pac.

The same ones that Colorado State, Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State, Washington State and Oregon State don't want in their conference.

You still pushing that tired narrative I see.

SDSU lost to MW bottom feeders in FB NM, UNLV and AFA.
USU lost to NM and UNLV.
Fresno lost to UNLV, Hawaii and AFA.
OSU lost to Nevada, UNLV, SJSU and AFA.
And of course our Cougs lost to NM and Wyoming.
CSU and BSU emerged unscathed.

Yep, bottom feeders all. Should we talk Baseball?

Better yet, you know doesn't play "bottom feeders"? Gonzaga when they ended our BB rivalry.

But hey, keep it up.

If winning and losing mattered in media rights, WSU would not have been relegated.
