We are getting like $2M+ (buy out)....hopefully we hire a professional search firm.

A qualified person doesn’t need a search firm. We also don’t have much time if they hope to retain or find talent this cycle.

A quality athletic director knows how to identify and hire good coaches. I wouldn’t expect them to be an expert on every sport. But football is what drives the bus. Don’t fck it up like Pat Chunk did.

Can't wait to see what budget hire the BoR approves.

There's plenty of good coaches out there, but WSU will find a way to trip over the bar and face plant.

Will this be a Schulz/McCoy maneuver or will they hand it off to the big-money boosters?

The latter is what happened at Texas A&M last season where the administration offered the job to Stoops at Kentucky, but the oil money said no and made the moves to bring in Elko from Duke

I have zero confidence Schulz and McCoy will look through the lens of getting someone who has the "chops" (pun intened Pete).

I think we need to lean on a search firm who can come up with a list of great candidates.

I think the search firms rely on what agents they know….

So it seems the Bloom is off the Rose with regards to our previously gushed upon AD? I do recall one poster who has been raising the alarm since day 1. Who was that masked Coug?

And Pete, you are so cute (quote below). I mean that slur-ryesly - uh I mean seriously! :)

I think you're overstating your amount of confidence?

Who's the top three candidates WSU should hire? Who are the likely candidates WSU will hire?

It feels very believable that WSU admin will ignore the first question, all in the favor of the might dollar.

Too bad Jason Eck (New Mexico) and Bronco Mendenhall, (Utah St.) just signed onto their new gigs.

I would have been happy with either. Not sure Bronco would have been come to Pullman, based on his LDS affiliation.

Throw Jason on Zepbound and I'm almost certain his life and career would indeed have a significant transformational change!

Eck hasn’t signed his contract yet

McCoy did a nice job with the David Riley hire (so far). Didn't break the bank but also didn't go uber cheap. It helped that he brought almost a full compliment of players with him (before injuries).

One thing we need to keep our fingers crossed on, that Dickert has at least a little integrity and doesn't try to gut the remaining roster.

What?

I watched his presser yesterday from Albuquerque. He stood up there and it was formal. His wife and 3 kids on the front row. Accepted his Lobos jersey and the whole shebang.

Are you certain?

Read it on the internet, must be true

Business is business. Dickert flew his family out of town on a private fvucking jet for a $25,000,000 + million guaranteed contract and a shot to be the Mark Few of a Gonzaga football wannabe.

I would be disappointed if he didn’t strip this roster of any value it has. Recruits, too.

It would be bad business not to.

The guy at Indiana did it.

And Kelvin did it to the Cougs 30 years ago

As this is just the term sheet, a formal contract still needs to be signed: "While these terms are contingent upon our executing an employment contract, I trust that every reasonable effort will be made to mutually conclude that process within 60 calendar days," the term sheet says

It ain’t show friends…

Knew I read it somewhere.

WSU doesn’t have businessmen or salesmen making decisions and pursuing a new coach. They have nerds and pencil pushers.
Given that, I think we need a real "outside the box" hiring plan. Keep track of every person that calls the AD expressing interest in the job, and write down their name on a 3x5 index card, along with their salary request. Put all of the index cards in an empty wastebasket form the Head Football Coach's office and mix them up. Start drawing out the cards one at a time and the first name that comes out of the wastebasket with a salary request that is under the amount that the AD has previously decided that WSY can afford will be our next Head Football Coach.

I never liked the McCoy hire from the get go. I felt we needed to go "outside" the family and get some new blood. I still feel that way.

McCoy is Sterk's former CFO. (I can't stand Sterk for what he did to WSU football). Schulz hired McCoy to save and cut costs. Schulz is also giving the next President room to hire their own AD is my read as well. Anne will probably put in a few more years and then announce her retirement.

My point on the above: we don't have time for this shit!

We need someone who can come in and "kick ass" with getting Coug Nation engaged, going to bat for our school at the bigger table (NCAA tampering an issue guys?). Moos was that guy. Anne is not.
