Kalani Sitake. He is currently the DC at Utah. He is out of contract and is reportedly not happy with the administration at Utah.

I think that would be an awesome hire but he's at $500k at Utah. Does Leach/Moos have the bank to get to a comparable salary. I would love to think so. He would be a great addition. They probably could go that high for him but would end up bargain basement for secondary & special teams coaches.

Is that how much he was making? I think it can be done with creative financing. I think Russell was paid quite a bit being the assistant head coach too. Of course, Coach Salave'a just got a raise taking over those duties. But, Mele might just continue to be the ST coach and being a first year coach, make a relative minimum.

He would be a great get, but would he come to "who gives a FU about defense" Pullman? He would move from a team with a defense first HC to an offensive minded HC, who has never had a quality defense. We will probably have to get a small time DC, who is willing to risk the move for big time experience. That said Mike Zimmer was the DC at Weber, and he is a god in these parts now. But Price's come to jesus moment about the importance of defense had something to do with that. I don't see "the smartest guy in the room" having one of those moments any time soon.

I have heard that Leach is not bad to work for as a DC. He will let you run your show on what you as a coordinator wants to run. He doesn't interfere. He, like any coach, just wants results. If Leach didn't care, he would not have made this change. So, I think he is a lot smarter than you think.

Is WSU gonna play big boy football? If so, then you offer $1m per year. If you really think that you've found a guy that is gonna turn your defense around and help your team go bowling, something WSU has done maybe 10 times in the last 100 years, is now the time to be cheap?

Pony up and pay the money to get the guy you want.

It makes sense, he coaches linebackers. Move Wilson to the safeties (he's coached them before), bring in a cornerback coach and have him coach the linebackers and coordinate the defense. I know that he knows Leach and Coach Joe. We were paying Breske $300K, pay this guy $750K and let's make it happen.

Maybe he'll like to coach at a place where his unit doesn't have to score or have to pitch a shut out for them to win.

He's on my short list.

I'm with Biggs, if you want a big time DC $1M will get you sniffs from a lot of talented DC.

Does Utah have an income tax? That's a big deal when you are talking 500-700k per year.

Actually seven...

States with no income tax:
Alaska.
Florida.
Nevada.
South Dakota.
Texas.
Washington.
Wyoming.

Not being happy can change with a raise and extension. But yes, make a run at him.

I don't think money will be an issue

It's not like Leach will have a blank check, but compensation will be competitive.

Re: I don't think money will be an issue

so, just for fun, what would be a ridiculous salary for WSU to pay a DC at this moment in time?

Re: I don't think money will be an issue

$700,000 to $800,000.

Re: I don't think money will be an issue

If you have $800,000 then you have $1M. Pony up and make a splash. Let the entire college football world know you put your big boy pants on. Coaches, recruits, fans, media... $1M per year for the DC. Whatever it takes to get the defense moving forward, do it.

Buy houses, buy cars, country club memberships at the most prestigious clubs in America, condo's in Mexico for summer vacations, European trip funds, anything that gets attention. Coach for WSU, we'll pay you and kick in some nice perks if you meet performance clauses.

"If you have $800,000 then you have $1M."

That's kind of how my wife thinks with regard to our bank account. Lol.

Well smart people make bad decisions...sometimes it is who you know,,,,

clearly the first time around he didn't know the right people.

Re: Well smart people make bad decisions...sometimes it is who you know,,,,

Clearly he should have brought in more guys that lacked FBS level experience, because coaching is coaching. Right?

I think what he meant to say was, " if you're willing to borrow $800m to pay a salary, why not borrow $1mm?

Re: I don't think money will be an issue

I would love to have this guy as our DC right now !! He's worth paying extra for !

Well...seems like you are at odds with your coach and his beliefs..

Matbe they have a "coaching board" you can go to spread your wisdom.

Seems inconsistent

You should lodge a complaint with the consistency committee.
