Who thinks we can beat the U of O?

Hopefully JDL can take a shot. The downside of a running QB.

From what I saw he JDL not only slides, gets down when he has to, but does so feet first, instead of a more dangerous head first slide.

He also knows when to get out of bounds vs fighting for a few extra yards when it is not necessary.

Also he is shifty, can cut back, can make tacklers miss, and can make hits glancing blows instead of full on hits.

Also if he is anything like how Gesser was, he can probably be tough and take some hits.

I rewatched our 2015 win against Oregon on the P12 network last night. Luke Falk knew how to take a moderate hit and make it a big hit......and that wasn't a good thing.
The number of times that kids head bounced off the turf during his time at WSU...ugh. I sure hope he doesn't have any lasting effects as his life goes on.

I'm saying there is a chance. I'm predicting a combination of run and pass in addition to a quarterback who may run or pass. A four year Jeremiah Masoli? Maybe the big O's worst nightmare.

The team does, that is all that matters.......

Cristobal is an average coach who wins with exceptional talent.

i don't believe he'll specifically gameplan us and will (again) rely on "talent" to get him by. There have a couple of really good players on both sides of the ball, so the Rolo gameplan will have to be neutralizing them as much as possible, because they are playmakers.

I believe that if we execute an effective gameplan we can compete and even win against the Ducks. We'll have to see what Rolo has up his sleeve.

I had that exact same thought this morning when I saw someone mention Falk. I really wanted him to retire after the Colorado game for his health. I got tired of his head bouncing off the turf like a damn basketball.

Is that good for us? Time will tell.

Yes. Having kids that actually have to think, having kids that have to play run and pass, forcing defenses to rotate bodies in and out, making DCs have to actually game plan... Make them work for it. Not just drop 8 and make the qb throw thru the bodies.

“The 2019 defense was good enough to win the conference.”

Back in the day when one team in an entire conference ran the option, every DC moaned the week before about having to prepare their squad for something different, where they had to re-examine all of their automatic responses. It made for more blown coverage sorts of errors, and if the D line was focused on some of that it also made drawing people offside on a hard snap count easier. The air raid had those advantages once upon a time, but since it became somewhat of a "flavor of the week" that is no longer the case. The R&S will have that benefit until such time as more teams use it, and the blown coverage piece of that in particular is important. The flip side is that the run can't be ignored in favor of what ever the pass D scheme is supposed to be. If you have a line that can both run and pass block, and if you have a QB who is a legitimate threat outside the pocket, then you have maximum ability to exploit mistakes by the D. And the D staff has to get their team ready for something they only see once per year. OSU saw it last year and still made enough mistakes to give us too many explosive plays...and because they stressed pass coverage heavily, a lot of our explosives were on the ground.

I like having a unique offense that does not resemble the rest of the league. I liked it when Leach arrived, and I like it now.

Just saw a halftime studio segment on Fox that was supposed to be about the Duck-Cougar game. It was a 5-minute promotional love fest for UO.....maybe bought and paid for by Nike?......that mentioned nothing about WSU. A string of Duck highlights and then the roundtable discussion about what a great team and program Mario has put together in Eugene. They talked about the domination of Stanford (never mind the 4 Stanford missed FGs and the fact that the #1 QB was mistakenly ineligible for the game along with 2 other starters). The last comment was from Urban Meyer (paraphrase): "To get to the national playoff, the Ducks need to win this game and others in a big and convincing fashion. Just winning isn't enough". Again, not a word or even an inkling that the Cougs have dominated this series the past several years, even as underdogs, or the possibility that they could pull off an upset.

I guess Fox is saying "please watch this game tonight on our network and see how bad the Ducks will blow out the other team who should remain nameless."

Glad Cougar

They had something similar on last night at halftime of the Minnesota / Iowa game, with that same crew. Reggie Bush talking about how Oregon reminds him of USC when he was there, them all talking about the high-ranked recruits and the "great program" Cristobal has built, talking about how exciting they are ... nary a word about the Cougs, much less the Cougs having played them really well in the last six games. Would be great to see the Cougs just come out and blast them, although I think we're in for a tough game given everything at play, including the weather.

Yea me too Glad. All morning long because of their slobbering all over the ducks I've had this feeling of deja vu. It reminds me of 55-16 all over again...
