Women win, Men dominated

Missed most of the men's game. Not sure I want to watch what went down.

Women's game started like a carbon copy of the Portland game then after getting up gave it back like the OSU game. Pacific was tough, but we put it away in the 3rd quarter.

No Covill today (hurt foot) and Tuhina went out when a player landed on her. EVilla w/ 23 for the game and 20 points in the 2nd half. Wallack was very efficient 9 boards, 1 assist, 2 steals, 2 blocks, deflections, and only 1 TO.

The ladies looked pretty poor at times but really stepped up in the third and fourth quarters.

The men? Unless Riley suddenly figures out that defense is part of the game, he's not going to last long in Pullman. Losing twice to a pathetic team like Pacific is inexcusable and a glaring sign that he's not a particularly good coach. Their only two wins since November are against WSU. And the injury excuses don't cut it here. That's a bad basketball team that we lost to.

I would say that our expectations were too high. We took an entire EWU team and moved it to Pullman. But the WCC is a major step up from the Big Sky. The injuries hurt us a lot. The staff has never Coached against the type of Coaches they are coaching against. What was always a not very good defenisve nor disaplined team in the Big Sky is exposed in the WCC. Better to get a grasp on what is needed in levels above what you are used to. Its much more than just defense, offense, rebounding and turnovers. Its fundamentals. From Top-to-bottom this team is not very good.

Bad passes that are forced work against terrible teams. They should of had at least 5 more turns last night. Pacific is soo bad that they saved us at least that many. There defensive scheme is just horrible. A good Coach and the Pacific guy has tons of experience and knows how to read film. Set a high screen with your big and then get a switch of a guard on a 7 footer and all of a sudden its trouble city.

They went to zone in the second half. Now I'm not a big zone guy but it immeadiately cut the penetration and the hedges that got our bigs well away from the hoop and out of rebounding position. But they refused to stay with it.

3's are fine but when your 6-11 guys are that far from the basket your rebounding suffers.

Bad basketball team (which we are) looses due to coaching. Riley takes the blame, much like Dickert did, but he needs to get back to fundamentals, back of disapline and not talk about "physical". Defense is 95% effort and playing with your feet.

High pick, roll and switch to a guard and then spin moves in the paint....we have no power rebounder nor inside man.

Riley should be on the hot seat. It just gets better as the new "Pac12" has no Pacific's. Might as well learn what it takes---now.

The Technicals are deserved and when you are getting techs you don't undertand that the new guy in a league has a short leash and yeah calls will go against you. But big mouths --loose. Trying for a "hero" play (dunk by Zay instead of just a simple bank for 2 points is just a demonstration that the team doesn't understand value of the ball.

Like I said in an earlier post, we have a lot of Big Sky players, a few WCC players and one or two Pac-12 players. I think we go 3-5 the rest of the way and probably get knocked out in the first round. Save, if I were you I wouldn't bother watching that game. It was painful.
