From the article:

"I think these quarterbacks are more inclined in that direction," Leach said. "Just one of the idiosyncrasies with Connor (Halliday), he's more of a (shot)gun guy, and we'll always be a gun team, anyway, so that'll always be a bigger part of it.

I had discussions with several folk about this exact point. I realize much of Air Raid is that the "pass is a run," but it seemed to me that Halliday was better oriented toward a shotgun offense. It seems tough to run play action from shotgun. I think those extra few steps with the fake make selling the run easier. And somebody more mobile (Is Falk more mobile?) can make those few snaps under center more interesting.

And there was another good tidbit:

Now that Mastro has some downhill running backs to work with - sophomore Gerard Wicks, who is now 220 pounds, has had a particularly good spring - he suggested to Leach that the Cougars incorporate an under-center look to take advantage of their talents.

And perhaps that was the reason our O was reluctant to be under center. The run just wasn't enough of a threat.

if you listen to Leach's press conferenc on this, he basically said, ball gets to QB's hands quicker, under center, which means you get can them out of his hands quicker. I'm envisioning some "Seahawks" type quick strikes where the QB is going to throw a quick screen and use this set up for fakes to bust a few runs up the middle.

Well, the Hawks did have Lynch, a credible threat to run. We haven't had that. But boy would I love to see more rushing yards.

This news is a gift ! Glad to hear it, the offense needs to be more diverse!

The offense is fine. But, there are some things that can be fine tuned. The offense is going to be the same with tweaks. With better players and a better understanding what is wanted of them, the offense can continue to improve.

Its funny..I basically say the same thing(we need to run the ball more) aka a few tweaks and people come out the woodwork on here.

So next time I'll use the verbiage diverse and tweaks instead of running the ball a little more.

If it were that simple. You questioned whether Mike Leach could get it done in Pullman. You said his offense was outdated. He can and it is not. He is also more flexible that many of you have given him credit. He ran the ball more at Texas Tech than he has in Pullman because he had the personnel to run more. He is finally beginning to get players that fit what he wants to do. He is more able to fit a round peg into a round hole.

For a brief moment, I thought this thread said....

WSU could be going under this season

Yes I have..and still do. I have said that his pass every down offense is too easy to defend.. And that he needs to run the ball(tweak the offense) more to keep the D off balance and open up some passing lanes.

Enjoy Shannon Woods highlights from 2005-08. You will also notice Harrell under center in many of these highlights. You may also notice THE MONSTERS upfront. That is all................
