Kind of shows where most of the fans and supporters are at with this. IPF funding complete. Some vocal people pulled out but a lot were apparently in support.

color me skeptical (big surprise, right?)

Chun can't move the needle over the past five years, but a mid season firing suddenly stirs up 10% of our giving? I'm guessing Chun sandbagged these donations and decided to announce them this week, or had certain donors he's aligned himself with wait until this week to make their big donation since he knew this was coming since April.

Discovery.

Kind of elaborate to do that, but either way WSU now has 3.5 million more dollars and will likely be able to start on the IPF. So good news all around.

Chun said it completed the fundraising for the IPF target.
I was close to the fundraising for a while, and I can tell you first hand that this was arranged. WSU couldn't raise $1MM to keep Bennett on campus, but they can suddenly get $3.5MM additional dollars in 5 days? Where were these guys a month ago, or a year ago, for even a portion of this amount? But suddenly this tidal wave of Cougar Pride "the likes of which we've never seen before"?

I'm happy for the program and for the donations, Go Cougs, but the timing is highly suspect. The spin machine is full effect, and I mean hey if Chun is your man then go wild. I guess we'll see what kind of splash he makes when he hires the replacement for the guy he kinda knew wasn't the right guy when he hired him.

FWIW, my donations haven't changed.

That was 12 years ago under a different AD? Wether or not there is timing shadiness here, 2009 basketball fundraising failures don’t really relate.

what you are saying is that you have knowledge that this was arranged, I find that hard to swallow

I really could not care less on the "when or why". Unless it's "the bubble" getting an IPF done can't hurt.

I think what he’s saying that this has been in the works for awhile and the announcement just came out today. Were they sitting on until after Rolovich being fired? Quite possibly, but I highly doubt this family called Chun Tuesday morning and said “Now that anti-vaxxer is finally gone. Put me down for $3.5M.”

Thank you.

This.

Two areas of prosperity which are unprecedented: 1. Stock grants issued by tech industry. 2. Telsa stock.

$3.5 the same week as the termination? Sure.

Of course he had that in his back pocket to announce . Now it wouldn’t surprise me if what he had was 3.1 and had some late donations, but majority was already in hand.

That is how the game is played .

Yeah. He’d be dumb to do it any other way. Save some good PR for the nightmare scenario of firing your hire that exploded in your face.

According the other brand X, biggest donation week ever! One big donation, several other large, and my $1200 extra. Darren Alger identified. Am I shocked, no. I don't see the anti vax crowd as having cups running over with cash. Luddites are traditionally low education, low earners, whereas pro innovation pro science people have the far deeper pockets.

My extra cash was because WSU showed some unexpected balls.

Did you do the same when WSU Athletics posted their BLM fist on Facebook? If not, why not?

Its not surprising.
Rolo's behavior was a tremendous drag on the program.
Washington is one of the highest vaccinated states in the US, and the vast majority support the vaccine mandate. A few vocal posters on this board do not reflect the feeling of the majority of WSU supporters, who are relieved Rolo is gone, and approve of how it was handled. I know that there are some who will never accept that, and will add this to their long list of conspiracies that they can never prove.
Sorry...

thanks for redefining the narrative. I think if you took a poll on this board it'd be closer to 60/40 if not less of majority, not a "vast majority".

That’s kind of the point. This board is not an accurate representation of the WSU faithful or sentiments in the state.

Timing is everything. Don’t think this was by coincidence.

Does your new found Cougar hate have no end?

Sadly, many black and Latino communities have low vaccination rates, primarily due to poverty, low education and unfounded fears. WSU's mission is rid the world of luddites, ludditism, poverty and low education through research, science and education. Its mission isn't to pander to irrational and hysterical beliefs. Unlike you, apparently, its mission is color blind. In science, not every belief is equal and deserving of acknowledge and respect, that includes the most sincerely held beliefs. It is relevant what your color is. Flat earth and anti vaxx-ism, aren't respected and won't be --- until there is at least some sound science supporting them. Fear not, the great thing about science is that if you show the proof, it will gladly do an about turn, it is not restrained by dogma or immutable matters of faith.

Since you are also apparently adopting "the race" based theme too, I honestly don't know or understand what you are taking about. Are you saying that blacks in the USA have historical gotten the short end to the stick from the legal system, and WSU should be Switzerland on the subject?

That’s not at all what I said. I’m referring to the BLM fist posted on Facebook by WSU Athletics. That led to a drop in donations. I’m asking if you gave an extra donation to offset those lost donations as you apparently have done here.

You are conflating two things here. If we understand Rolo’s objection to the Covid mandated vaccine, it is not a generic anti-vax stance. It is on the grounds that the vaccines are designed, tested, and manufactured using the cells of aborted children.

BTW, there is work (Sonofi?) on a Covid vaccine that does not use any abortion derived cells. If the objection is to abortion derived vaccines, then I’m sure he will get that one when available.

But Inslee doesn’t want to give accommodations to those who want to wait for an ethical alternative. And it sounds like you and many others don’t either.

Has any of the 'journalists' asked Chun the total legacy gifts that have been pulled because of this? Or did they just regurgitate the press release?

Allegedly, the amount is significant.

A journalist would ask the question.

Yeah but why would bureaucrats lie to us at a strategic PR time?!

I'm pretty sure you just answered your own question... It may be lost on me but you probably are being rhetorical.
It escapes no one. Make them tell you when the gifts were received. Otherwise those who going to believe what they believe will continue to believe what they believe.

That is how you play the game . Trump was flat out brilliant at it .

I will even say they only got 250k the last week in donations. Is that a fair number. But guess what , I don’t care. I will freely admit it is a distraction announcement . However at the end of the day they achieved something for the program and the people who are still here.

I think the timing was delayed on purpose to wait and see what happens to Rolo. I doubt, personally, Chun held this to mask over the Rolo bad news. Also, with the home game last weekend, it gave WSU a chance to celebrate with a home game.

I think everyone keeps forgetting that no one at WSU had any involvement or knew the outcome until the state made their decision. Chun or Shulz didn't make the decision on Rolo, period. It was some independent board/body (aka Jay Inslee's team) that told Rolo he can't work any more.

The decision was made by a "blind" committee, made of of what I would assume to be WSU employees, not State employees. Having the State sign off on exemptions is not how the sham of a system was set-up...intentionally of course, to avoid direct accountability by the State or WSU, in this case.
