Except they are consistently the most viewed and the best attended threads on this board. This board survives because of its hand off approach. The football down times are filled in by social interest and politics posts, keeping posters returning for content during the 6 month off season. You can try to Cougfan it, and moderate the board into oblivion, or posters can take some personal responsibility, and moderate themselve. i.e. political/social, -- I'm in; or political/social -- I'm out. How hard is that? The censorship you propose will do more harm than good. A board that is dead or nearly so for 6 months each year, struggles.
Football interest drives them here, the varied content keeps them coming back, which is the winning formula. Even this, "Wah, politics should be banned/can't we just get along" thread, which ain't about football, BTW, is generating interest and content.
I don’t think anyone’s proposing censorship. I think the hope is that at some point every good thread isn’t ruined by someone making an off hand political comment then having it fly off the rails. I’ve seen topics posted specific to political stuff, vax/anti-vax, etc and those who want to participate can, those who aren’t interested don’t. It’s not such a hard concept but some people can’t help themselves.
