2014-2015 Starting Lineup

The starting lineup this season should be as follows:
Starters Reserves Other Squad members

C 6'11 Railey New Recruit 6'10 Hawkinson
PF 6'7 Cheatum 6'7 Longrus 6'7 Boese
SF 6'5 Que 6'4 Davis 6'6 Drew
SG 6'3 Lacy 6'1 Ike
PG 5'9 Dunbar 6'2 Redding

This line up should give the team more speed ,quickness and athletic ability so sadly lacking on last years' team.If the new recruit is a good frosh then expect him to slide into the starting position. Railey and Longrus then would give about 12-16 minutes of solid backup work as big men.The shooting should be improved as the faster paced game will allow players to be more comfortable and in better position to score with improved PG play..I expect that about 9-10 players will all see time on the court and will play with more entusiasm and energy this season.

Ok I'll take a shot.

I don't really see us with a traditional line up but if we do IMO it would look like this

C 6'11 Railey
PF 6'7 Longrus
SF 6'5 Que
SG 6'3 Lacy
PG 6'2 Ike
utility player Drew IMO he will start a lot of games again this year at multiple positions based on match ups

backups

6'11 Hawkinson (heard he grew 1 possibly 2 inches)
6'7 Boese or Cheatum ( watched several full game tapes of Cheatum, lots of potential but long ways to go)

extra guard minutes will be up for grabs to whoever steps up and shows coach the most in practice and preseason, also don't count out Ballard! He was ranked as high as any of these new guys coming out of high school and is 2 years older and more adjusted to the college game. Thats not saying Ballard will see significant minutes more to the fact that I don't see major minutes by any of the new guards.

At beginning of season:

5. 6' 11"- 7' Railey, back up: 6' 11" Hawkinson

4. 6' 7" Longrus, back up: Cheatum, when small, or back up, DKD, when big, back up, Hawkinson, boese should not play.

3. 6' 5" Que, back up DKD, Davis, when big, Cheatum, or Longrus, when small lacy, davis

2. 6' 3" Lacy, backup, davis, ike split remain time, Nye

1. 6' 1 an 1/2"- 6' 2" Ike, Dunbar, Nye

Mid to end of nonconference:

Same as above EXCEPT: At the 4, Longrus, Hawkinson, Cheatum take turns starting at 4, and equal split non starting remain minutes.

At the 3. Davis either backs up Que, ahead of DKD, or equal splits remain time with DKD, at the 3.

At the 2. Ike, Davis equal split remain time behind lacy.

At the 1. Either Dunbar starts, or Nye, Dunbar, Ike, equal split time.

At start of Pac 12:

Same as above except:

5. Railey

4.. Longrus

3. Que, DKD, Davis

2. Lacy, Davis, Ike, Nye

1. Ike, Dunbar, Nye.

At Mid Pac 12:

5. Railey, Hawkinson

4. longrus, cheatum

3. Que, Davis, DKD

2. Lacy, Ike, Davis, Nye

1. Dunbar, Ike, Nye.

At end of Pac 12, post season, if any:

5. Railey, Hawkinson, Cheatum

4. Longrus, or Hawkinson start(situational start), Cheatum, DKD

3. Que, DKD, Davis, Cheatum

2. Lacy, Ike, Davis, Nye, Que

1. Ike, Dunbar, Nye.

There is this misconception that the former coach knew what he was doing when he recruited certain players. Well after last seasons' debacle one can see that the talent base was sorely lacking. Perhaps Hawkinson may improve drastically and be able to log minutes but that may be a hope and not a reality. Ike just does not have the skill set or leadership ability needed from a PG. All of you will just have to adjust and accept the reality that there is a new sheriff in town and he needs quickness ,speed ,and the team will play at a faster pace than some of your current heroes are physically capable of. Anyway ,the interest will continue to increase as Kent's system takes hold

Hawkinson will be a limited, temp, situational starter, at extreme best, against teams that have a 6' 10"+ 5.Center, and a 6' 10"+ 4. PF, starting at the same time. At best Hawkinson will either be the #1 back up to the starter Railey, or equal split back up time behind starter Railey, with Cheatum. At worst he plays back up behind starter Railey, and back up Cheatum. No way does Hawkinson not play at all, or not play at least some back up minutes off the bench.

No way does Cheatum permanently start ahead of Railey, Longrus. At best he could be a limited, temp, situational starter, this coming year.

No way Dunbar, Nye, at the beginning of the season, non conference, start at PG, ahead of Ike. The ONLY time Dunbar, Nye, would start at PG, over Ike, is if WSU is going against a weak nonconference team, or a weak, last place pac 12 team, or mid nonconference, after they get a little exp, or mid pac 12,during a easier stretch, after they get a little exp, to develop them, get them some exp for the next year after this coming season.

Ike is a 6' 1 an 1/2" to 6' 2", EXTREMELY ATHLETIC,SPEEDY,QUICK,JUMPS HIGH. He can pass ok, good, has good ball handling, slashes, attacks, finishes at the rack well.He shoots ok, good, has a good floater. He is a 4 STAR, played for the OAK HILL ACADEMY, that regularly spits out top college players, and NBA players. The ONLY bad, is he is, was RAW, slightly, somewhat inexperienced, inconsistent, at PG, last year, and is a Allen Iverson type of score first, pass 2nd, non pure type of PG.

But he is MORE EXPERIENCED AS A COLLEGE BASKETBALL PG, and for now, temporarily, in the short term, better then Dunbar, Nye Redding at the PG.

Next year, season, after this season, when lacy grads, IKE, Davis, will compete, fight it out for the permanent starting spot at the 2.

Dunbar, and Nye will compete, fight it out forthe permanent starting spot at the PG spot, and Dunbar will probably be the permanent starter, at the PG spot, NEXT SEASON, after this season, when, after Lacy grads.

No way will Dunbar, or Nye, be the permanent starter at the PG spot, this season.

And Ike, wont be the permanent starter at PG this season.

But he will be the starter at PG, at the start of this coming season, and against the tougher, toughest teams. Beginning of pac 12, and at end of season, postseason, if there is a post season.

The biggest misconception is that just because players were recruited by Kent they are some how instantly better than our existing players. If any of these players were recruited by coach Bone this board would be blowing up with comments about not being able to win with big sky talent! I believe Kent is the right hire and also believe he will bring in a higher level of recruit in the future but with the late start he took what he could get. I think in the time allowed he did great but don't excpect these guys to light up the PAC 12 as freshmen. 4 and 5 star recruits and a few three star recruits make impacts as freshmen in the PAC 12, most 3 stars have limited roles with 2 stars (which there are few in the PAC 12) sit the bench. Our recruits are not even rated. To think these kid are some how going to play a significant role next year is wishful thinking and unfair to the player. If it happens great I'll be jumping for joy while eating crow but history is not on our side.

Tell that to the coach. Ernie Kent says that the recruits will play and make an impact. i believe that local fans somehow want to continue the direction that the former coach was leading them on. I guess that we will see who emerges as players very soon. it should be an exciting season unlike previous ones.

It is unfair to the current players to expect that they will somehow be much better than they showed last year. Another misconception is that we do not know what we are getting. The bigger problem is that we know what we have from watching last years' debacle of a season. The recruits while not rated highly do have the physical talent and skills to play a lot better than many of last years players. They have to play well or the cougs will be looking at last place in the PAC 12.Kent is on record as saying they will play and make an impact. This follows my thinking and evaluation of the recruits. There is a reason why many college coaches get fired and it has to do with their recruiting of players who are not D 1 talents.

How in the world do you know they have the physical attributes to be successful. By looking at highlight videos? Look at Ike's highlight reel, he looks like a future NBA stud. Its called a highlight reel for a reason. Last year was obviously not an impressive outing that doesn't mean everybody on our team sucks and it certainly doesn't mean players that hardly anybody else wants are going to walk in and be successful. I really hope its true and I also hope the players we have step up and we have a great year but more than likely it will take time. What did you expect coach to say about his new players? of course he says they will play right away just as he has also stated he is very happy with the players left behind by the old regime. At this point its all just lip service. All we can do is wait and hope, but at least we have some excitement around the program.

Fact is you El C, and you Jourdand, are both wrong at the opposite spectrums. And you both dont listen to logic, reason, when it goes against your views.when using logic, facts, info, etc, that goes against the views of you 2, its like talking to Jehovah witnesses. Example: "Youn dont teach bout Christ"-J wit. "What is gospel of christ"-Mik. "It is bla bla"-j wit. "Pulls out flip chart brochure, is this gospel?"-mik, "Yes"-J wit, "then why accuse of not teach that, when accord to this flip chart, brochure, that I use, and in which you say is gospel, I do teach that"-Mik. "um,um,um, er, you dont teach gospel"- j wit, "storms angrily out door and leaves"-j wit.

You 2 behave just like the J wit,

El C

Ken Bone problems were the bad coaching problems of roster mismanagement, failing to recruit PG's, until to late, failing to recruit Centers, 5's, timeout mismanagement, killing own momentum, weird substitution, rotation patterns, playing bench players over starters(example, playing Hayenga, ballard, dilorio, dkd, lodwick, etc, over others like Que, Motum, others, who should have started played over the bench players). It was all that, that caused the last 2 seasons, not lack of recruiting.

Bone did a awesome job recruiting 2's, 3's, 4's. Bone recruited Reggie, Aden, Ladd, Lacy, Royce, Q, Ike, Isabell(Bone gets credit, because it was Kents fault that Isabell left, just like Bone was responsible for the Lancona debacle)all were good 3,4 star recruits ON PAPER. And Q, Ike, Isabell, Lacy, on paper, have been some of the best rated recruits, since the sampson, maybe even raveling days.

Q, Ike, are 4 stas, out of westwind, oak hill, that produce top college, NBA players. They are going to be good Q, ike, lacy, are going to be awesome this season. Railey, Longrus, Hawkinson should be servicable,ok at the big man spots. Dkd, will be a good off bench. Cheatum will situational start, come off bench. Davis likely comes off bench behind Q,lacy, DKD, Dunbar, Nye, situational start, play a lot of minutes, come off bench behind Ike.

Jourdand

What your saying about Dunbar, Nye, Cheatum, is just like those who illogically nay sayed Q, Ike, Lacy, Isabell, at first.

Ike cant play 40 minutes at PG. Dumbar, Nye, will be thrown into the fire, and will either sink or swim. I think they will swim. How well they will swim remains to be seen.

Same thing about cheatum, since WSU is not deep, and may or may not be weak at the big man spots.

What you said applies to Davis, since WSU, is strong, deep at the 2,3 spots. He will be the 2,3rd back up at the 2,3, off the bench.

What your saying about Dunbar is wrong. You need to very carefully study, read, research the breakdown report I gave on Dunbar, and what I post about him and his latest vid, sponsored by ball is life, and San Fran Pro Am, as I dont think you have, or dont understand, or even more wrongly dont accept it.

Fact is, that on paper Dunbar is probably the most underated ever, after being overated.

You also need to read Britton's new post on Dunbar.

I am going to repost it here.

It mentions that Dunbar, has played against, been mentored by Kyrie Irving, Jeremy Lin, Matt Barnes, all top NBA players. And that Dunbar is the Team Shifty General. And that Kyrie Irving is a member of Team Shifty, and is a friend, mentor, regularly talks to Dunbar. And that Dunbar played in the San Fran Pro Am, one of the best, if not the best Pro Am in the country.

The ONLY reason why Dunbar is not a 3,4 star player, and doesnt have offers, from the best colleges, and isnt playing with his friend Tyler Ulis, at Kentucky(by the way Maryland, and St Johns 2 good bball programs were officially interested in, wanted him.), is because he is 5' 9", cant jump out of gym, got beat by Isabell, Rorie.

Dunbar is a 3,4 star, no matter what the big recruiting services say. He is way the hell better then chauca, better then being a big sky, mid major. This is the guy I wanted to come to WSU, before even Isabell came along.

Slam mag article on Dunbar

I can't , won't, shouldn't argue against logic, facts, random internet posts, highlight videos and impeccable research done by a randum poster who has a history, track record, of being extremely, slightly, mostly wrong or tends to at best case over hype to slightly over hype any player at or close to signing, visiting or looking at WSU.

As far as ELC goes we often don't agree but at least he makes points that can be followed by rational people. I understand his arguements, I respect his opinions (of late) and we will probably drift closer together opinion wise when Bone's players are gone, as we are both basketball and WSU fans.

PS: I'm not sure a WSU basketball message board is the proper place to post bigoted comments about other peoples religious beliefs.

I don't find myself defending mikalas' posts, but "bigoted"? Come on.

I found the rest of your comment funny though.

While i appreciate mikalas 's dedication to his" research", i will tend to disagree with his conclusions. He has opinions like everyone else and we shall whose opinions come to fruition. I will listen to others opinions but will not accept them as gospel. I like that one. Anyway i appreciate the burgeoning interest in coug basketball.
