How does it get better next year?

Nothing is ever guaranteed in football. If Dickert can do another good job of keeping kids from leaving and he finds competent coordinators and takes a long look at whoever is responsible for teaching tackling technique.....we could have a good season. Next year will be tougher than this one, but there are still a lot of winnable games on the schedule if we can figure out the whole second half adjustment thing. If our team plays just a touch better next year, our schedule could look like:

Idaho: W
SDSU: W
@ North Texas: W
UW: L
@ CSU: L
@ Ole Miss: L
@ Virginia: W
Toledo: W
@ OSU: L
La Tech: W
@ JMU: W
OSU: W

Another 8-4 season. Of course, we could easily go 4-8 against that schedule just as easily.

Well, you get to play us Beavers twice next year, that should count for something, right?

I'm not annoyed about playing the Cougars twice next year. We've been through a lot together, so we're just helping each other get the rest of the way through this.

PAC-12 expansion & media rights... we have that to look forward to in 2025. Or maybe sooner. Without linking a bunch of articles to back all this up, here's what I know...

1 - John Canzano seems to be all over the place on when things will happen. I've read or heard anywhere from this month (December) to no later than March Madness. By "things will happen", that's getting a media deal done or mostly done, and grab 1 or more schools.

2 - I've heard this from two different places that the PAC-12's strategy is to let the media partners guide the conference on what schools to pick. For example, the PAC says "What if we just add UNLV, what will you pay us for the contact?" Or the PAC says "Do we get a better deal with Mephis and Tulane? How much?" By doing this, the PAC can go to the different schools and tell them what the media deal would look like if they join the conference.

3 - UNLV has not signed a GoR with the MWC. Chances with UNLV are believed to be slim, however, but not zero.

4 - One summary of a Canzano article said something like, "Sacramento State is dead - not in the running".

5 - CW is in a strong position to continue as one of the PAC-12's main media partners.

Dave, I was referring to the team. Not the TV stuff or expansion issues.

I do thank you for contributing though.

Hey stupidgibbons.. I can see that you posted. But I have you on ignore. You should do likewise and move on from my threads.
Wait. Nobody had quoted gibby (why would they :) ) prior to you posting this. So you block posters but know that they posted? Howzat work?

1 and 4 - Canzano is like a broken watch. Correct twice a day (or 2/24 of the time).
2 - Well I would hope so. What if the media partners say "Go grab the #20 market in the country and BTW they will also be the cheapest to get".
3 - UNLV doesn't meet the metrics. So what if they are 10-2 and in the MW championship?
5 - Well I would hope so.

Oh, oops!

Okay, Cougs, keep Mateer and improve the supporting cast around him!

Perhaps develop more depth, too. Seems like the Cougars got tired (or beat up) at the end of the season.

I plan on going to both OSU vs WSU games next year and look forward to watching Mateer play.

By the way, a bunch of us Beavers in the Portland/Vancouver area were really pulling for the Cougars to make it to the College Football Playoffs. We even had the conversation, "If the Beavs need to lose to the Cougs for them to make it to the CFP, then what do we do?"

New Mexico solved that problem. As a note: New Mexico is coached by Bronco Mendenhall, a former Beaver player who started his coaching career at Oregon State. A couple of times when the Beavers had a football head coach opening, Mendenhall was my choice to fill it.
