First point: No matter what happens tonight, this season has been one for the ages. What an incredibly exciting and successful season...one that I will never forget.

A friend/colleague of mine texted me during the Cal game when our intercepted ball somehow inexplicably escaped through the back of the end zone with the comment "you Couged it!". I was furious at that comment because, first of all, that term is completely misused. Also, the season had already been a success given what this team has overcome...so my text response was simply "screw you". I am slow to anger, but that was so over the top ridiculous to say.

Losing six assistant coaches, several key players on offense and defense, and most of all, losing the heir apparent starting QB to a tragic suicide...and someone tells me we "Couged it" is so offensive and wrong. There is no way we can rightly be labeled as "Coug-ing it" after that in any game. We have already succeeded.

Second point:
We have no business ever beating UW. They have a lot more talent and depth and resources. The fact that we have historically won 30 percent of the time is actually impressive. No Wazzu fan should have the expectation that we win at least 50 percent of the games vs UW...but the 30 percent we win are so sweet and savory and makes it all worth it.

Petersen is a really good coach, so given that he has owned us makes me leery of the game tonight. They still have a very good defense and an offense that is explosive with experienced players.

If they can run on us consistently, we have no chance. Likewise, if we turn the ball over, we have no chance.

We scored 19 vs Cal and 28 vs Utah, the other two teams with excellent defenses beside UW in the Pac12…so I see us scoring perhaps in the mid 20s. Can we keep UW scoring below that? It is going to be tough. The pressure is on UW, not Wazzu. For a change, we need to pressure Browning and he will make bad decisions. If they establish the run, and then run play action off of that, we are toast. Petersen always has a trick play or two he'll run to take advantage of their speed, so we can expect that.

Final point: Despite the odds of being over-matched playing UW, this team may just find a way to win once again. I don't think they'll be intimidated. I hope they hit hard and don't make costly mistakes and beat themselves. God knows UW doesn't need our help in beating us. We've been underestimated all season (including by me), so let's hope that we show once again that we will rise to the occasion and walk out with a W.

Excited about this game...but also realistic that despite the betting line, we are certainly the underdog. I hope we play like we believe that.
