A key detail being left out of the UCLA discussion: they signed the deal back in August

I suspect that money will definitely be redirected. Yes, it will be painful, and make the decision look even dumber in hindsight. I doubt UCLA will be reined in and stay home, even if it was the best option for the school. To many naive egos were involved.

The cross-country travel angle is something that every west coast athletic department should beat to death. Specifically call out the climate hypocrisy to everyone.

UCLA is gone, they won't net the amount of money they think they will in the Big 10, but backing out of the deal will cost them even more with the lawsuits and litigation that would follow, plus having their brand drug through the mud during the entire process creates even more problems. They announced they are leaving, signed a deal, unless they can deem whoever signed it is not authorized to do so and somehow eliminates them from lawsuits, and liability, they are gone, unfortunately.
