Doesn't M.I. handle that role since Scott Hood took a leave of absence?

Regardless, this site's message boards are like a Wednesday night church service compared to what else is out there.

Buddy, you have no idea. Goddam women. Bane of my existence. But just so soft, pliable, moist, tasty, etc.

How are the gals in the Yakima area?

Haven't spent time there in ages, but there used to be plenty of lookers back in the day

It's a great school and they have a solid football tradition (recently anyway). They just lost their head coach to the University of San Diego a few weeks back. They've gone 47-8 in the past four seasons.

The only downside to Mines is that the average cost of attendance is just over $60k per year before scholarships for out of state. It will cost her (us?) about $40k more for her to go there when compared to WSU. The daughter's 529 plan was liquidated pretty quickly. It's about $120k more than it would have been to go in-state to the University of Kansas. Of course, her justification is that the average salary for a ChemE out of Mines is far higher than that of WSU or KU. We'll see.

She's happy with her choice and there's a lot to be said for that.

Oh Gawd, you have no idea. The Hispanic gals are so hot. They should outlaw those Yoga pants. Lots of cute white girls too. Problem is, most of them are either attached, or I'm too old for them (they aren't too young for me). My last honey dumped me a while back, so I'm prowling.

Only if you habla Espanol and catch one before she puts on 150 lbs.
Yeah they do tend to put on the weight as they get older. But to be fair, so do the white and black gals. I just have such a hard time understanding why there are so many chowsers (women and men) in this country of ours. Just today, I see this gal - had to be 25 or less- but just a whale. I have been a little pudgy at times, but geezus. And don't give me that BS about some medical reason. Americans are a bunch of fat pigs, and it disgusts me. And where are the fattest pigs? In the Deep South. Huh.

Have you looked around you, there’s 4 fast food joints on every corner and people drive their cars to the mailbox.

Blew my mind when I went to Spain how in shape everyone was. But 95% of their diet is fresh food..no Costco or supermarket, just the fresh food market w meats, etc. most don’t have freezers. Then most walk or bike everywhere in the city.

Our culture enables obesity in every way.

When my now 21 year old daughter was 10 we noticed she was developing at a much faster rate than her peers. Hair in places she shouldn't have at that age, breast development, height, etc. Now I'm 6'2" but her mom is 5'1" on a good day. So we took her to a pediatric endocrinology specialist in SLC. The nearest one we could find since we were in Boise.
This guy must have been 70+. Marcus Welby type. Office littered with books floor to ceiling... you get the picture.
He did tests and found nothing wrong. However he asked us one question..."Do you feed her fast food?" Our answer was yes, we did. His advice to us was stop, immediately. He explained in the simplest terms that the growth hormones they feed cows, chickens, etc don't simply disappear when you cook them. They're still there and we as a society are ingesting them.
From that day forward we stopped... completely.
She is now a very normal, attractive young woman. 5'4" tall and I would guess 120 pounds or so.
She doesn't now or has since that day stepped foot into a fast food restaurant.

That’s terrifying, never thought of it that way.

It’s not just the fast food. Look at the grocery store - eating healthy is expensive. The cheapest foods are processed fats & starches, coated in preservatives. The people of Walmart are fatties because they eat shitty food for every meal.

Yup, it’s definitely both. The 700 calorie morning “coffee” every day (little bit of coffee with mocha, caramel, whip) also contributes.

So, can I get the number of your wife and/or daughter? And pictures? Just kidding. :)

Yeah, fast food sucks. I have to eat healthy, so I do a lot of home cooking. Dried beans, chicken breasts, fresh veggies, etc. I avoid anything in a can as much as I can. If you go to any fast food website and check out their nutritional info (I guess they have to provide that these days), OMG. I forget if it was the Whopper or Big Mac - one burger, 100% plus of your daily fat, salt and cholesterol.

When I'm in the store, I tend to gape into other shoppers carts to amuse myself. So often I see some fat pig with a cart full of fatty shit. Often with a couple of fat kids trailing.

That said, once in a while I have to get my Taco Bell.

Exactly...and it is one of the main reasons you have seen an onslaught of testosterone replacement commercials that last 10 years or so. All of the estrogens in the meat along with estrogen mimickers in plastics.

Its a toxic sludge of hormones that is bad for everyone.

I am 99% sure that the US is the only country that this bs is allowed to happen. It was the only country
that allowed it(injecting beef and poultry with hormones) last time I researched the issue

Our food supply is an absolute embarrassment.

The speed and convenience is a trap too. In my former job I spent a lot of time on the highway moving from project to project, and it was far easier to hit a drive-thru than to get decent food. I pretty regularly carried an extra 30 pounds in those days, along with high sodium and triglycerides levels.

It really shouldn’t be a mystery why Americans have epidemics of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

What really annoys me is the fat kids. I know a 14-ish year old boy who has man boobs bigger than half of the women I've known. And his fat parents give him whatever he wants to eat. Gross. My kids ate what we put on the table, they both grew up fit and lean, and still are.

Once you ditch fast food you don’t miss it. Occasionally the McD parking lot waif catches me but it passes quickly. Real food tastes so much better. We cook fresh 5-6 nights a week. I throw all sorts of stuff on the smoker and it’s amazing. It’s been a bitch with inflation like everything but we just buy whatever is on sale…sometimes it’s chicken quarters, sometimes it’s pork chops.

A Big Mac, Coke, fries and hot cherry pie childhood was worth it. Especially those scratch offs for the 1976 Olympic Games. Won a boatload of free food off that.

All for about $1.25. Life was good then.

Aren't you in Kansas or Oklahoma or some flyover state? Aren't your Big-12 schools good enough? Edit - Kansas. didn't read your post thoroughly. F-ing dementia)

That said, nut up and pay the difference for daughter. You have money. When my son decided to go to Western, we gave him $25,000 up front and said hey that's all you get. He squirreled it away, and between part time work and scholarships got it done (with a couple grand of help at the end). No debt. He graduated and talked about friends who bought fancy cars, etc. and walked out with mega debt. I was Goddam proud of him. We took a chance and gave him the cash upfront and he came through.

My daughter the Coug was similar, although I didn't have custody so she got major financial aid because of her non-working mom and loser husband. Workstudy, etc. and graduated with -0- debt. She did incur some in Grad school.

I know we are a long ways from our days when I could work a summer job, work PT during the school year and come away with -0- debt. When I started at WSU tuition was $363 a semester. By the time I graduated it was $600 and change.

We are definitely ponying up a lot more cash for her education than we did for her brother. He went to the local university so we just bought a house for him to live in while he was in school and let his friends make the house payment for us (and him). Sold the house when it was obvious that our daughter wasn't going to school here and gave each kid $10k from the profits off the sale. Unfortunately, Colorado housing prices are high enough that we didn't feel like buying one there.

By the time that we are done, we'll have covered around $80k of her college expenses, her scholarships will cover around $80k, she will have worked to earn about $40k and she'll owe another $30k in loans. By living cheap, taking some community college classes and graduating early, she's going to get out with a bit less in debt than she might otherwise pay. Of course, what really sucks about all of that is that because of our income, we don't get to deduct her education costs from our taxes except to offset the gains from her 529 plan that we had taken out. All these ****heads wanting free education get no sympathy from me. We're the ones that they want to pay for their "free" education. Of course, that's an entirely different rabbit hole.

Flat, being in Kansas, do you know much about Bethany (spelling?) College?

Maybe it's a D2 or D3-type school?

Got a buddy who's son is getting letters to play football there.

Bethany College is a small college in Lindsborg, Kansas. Kind of cool in that Lindsborg has gone balls deep on Swedish culture in the same way that Leavenworth, Washington has adopted German culture. Not as big of a deal as Leavenworth though.

The school itself doesn't really get much attention where I live. What's interesting is that they have 17 varsity sports. Wazzu only has 15. Doh!

On the football program, I looked it up and they are terrible right now. They are NAIA (step below D3). They've gone 7-26 in the past four years....which might be one of the reasons that I haven't heard much about them recently. My wife went to Bethel College, which is a rival of Bethany's. What is funny to me about Bethel is they hired my son's high school football coach and he did great at Bethel...but he was merely mediocre as a high school coach.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays when I had 2 basketball practices one right after the other, my mom would hook me up with some Dairy Queen.

The Hot Fudge Brownie delight. That was awesome. Not sure why they took that off the menu.

And like everything else in fast food, the portions are smaller. The Big Mac comes to mind. Should'nt even be allowed to be called the Big Mac.

It's a Small Mac now.

And that Dusty's sounds awesome. I could go for some of that

Sadly Dusty's is no more. But their burgers were just dripping with juice and sauce. They always cooked to order so if you wanted rare, you got rare!
DQ...I was more of a peanut buster parfait man myself 🤪

He's made some very stupid decisions that will start affecting his career, soon. As recently as canceling a concert in Oxford, MS due to being hungover.
That being hungover story was a lie, totally disputed by the security guard's company. Hell he had to cancel his CMA performance and is now postponing 6 weeks of his concert tour to rest his vocal chords. But yeah he is a wild guy. And his fans lap it up.

I was too. Had a long break though, and when I ordered one a few years ago I wondered what happened to the rest. It’s about half the size now.

NAIA schools can give athletic scholarships. D3 can’t so they are on par and probably better than D3 schools.

Yep you are correct. You know Jen Greeny was the VB coach at NAIA Lewis-Clark State before we hired her. If I'm not mistaken, I think that the D3 teams basically use their programs to recruit students who aren't good enough to get schollies elsewhere. "Hey come here and you can keep playing football".
