The coaches voted for just one transfer portal period, lasting 10 days from Jan 2-Jan 12. Doesn't mean it will happen, but I do think changes will continue into the future as there are a lot of things about the portal that need to be fixed.

10 day transfer portal proposal

January and June are fine, imo.

Wanna keep kids thru the bowl? Tie their NIL deal to playing in the bowl.

These collectives need to get smarter with their deals.

The window shouldn't open until the season is over. For everyone. No transfers until after the national championship. The NFL doesn't have free agency until after the Super Bowl, college should do the same thing.

Some will argue that we have to account for the academic calendar. We don't. Academics are a distant consideration for these kids. They can still leave school in December or January - whenever their term ends - and play bowls and CFP games. Maybe it impacts their enrollment at the new school, but don't try to convince me that that matters anymore.

They need to be able to leave after spring ball. I guess it's up to them whether they want to complete spring semester.
I mean let’s be real, when you transfer three schools in 4 years schools not really a priority. Who gives a shit about classes at this point

They are already giving millions to these kids work in an agreement where they can come back and finish credits they missed because of transferring if they aren’t in the .1% that makes a living in the NFL. What’s that, $10-40K depending on the school?

Here's another idea. Do away with the portal completely. Since they will be employees now, let them do and go and talk to whoever the hell they want whenever they want. No switching schools in the middle of the season. Or game.

Aren't those the rules the rest of America follows?

I would go with just the opposite. The window for a free transfer is August 25 through October 1.

Makes kids bet on their future, gives schools time to recover .

summer transfer makes the most sense logistically. Finish the school year and you can transfer.

I think kids getting to spring ball matters. That’s why I’d keep the winter portal. The portal after spring ball should be open until classes start in the fall. Remember, it isn’t just power conference kids in the portal. Kids from all divisions are searching for or sifting thru schools.

Do they even track the progress and graduation rates anymore? APR?

Agree, but I also wonder what could be done so they don't fake it or half-ass it.

Might be better for them to not play vs. intentionally trying to ruin things.

Maybe there should be bonuses for bowl performance instead

That will need to be collectively bargained.

They aren’t “employees”, yet.

I’m sure they do but if they can legally give bags full of cash to the players, what do ya think they are doing to get them their grades? It’s all bought off.

What school would get dinged for a guy attending 3 different schools over 4 years. Again, assuming that’s even a thing.

Doesn't really matter how long or when the portal is open. All the tampering will adjust and just start sooner and make firmer offers, if they want to lock up the player quickly.
Sure. But I don't think changing the timing is designed to prevent or mitigate tampering.

A good percentage (I'm not going to bother looking it up or guessing) of the departing players are leaving for PT. They would behoove themselves to have their academic house in order when they leave.

Do you want to have a roster?

See below. Quote:

The lawyer for Xavier Lucas says the ex-Wisconsin player is transferring to Miami, even though the cornerback's former school never entered his name into the portal.

The NCAA issued a statement Friday saying that "NCAA rules do not prevent a student-athlete from unenrolling from an institution, enrolling at a new institution and competing immediately."

So what?! That just changes everything? Which was my thought anyway. Get rid of it.

We are going to start seeing midseason transfers

No, no, no. We’ll just see a bunch of players deciding to dis-enroll for “personal reasons- respect my decision”. Then go on a long walk to sort out a few things in life and to find some perspective. One by one each will discover they prioritize Generally higher education above all else, even more than their former love for football in their quest for self-improvement.

With newfound drive to become the best Generally Educated student they can be, they will realize returning to their current school is untenable let alone unaffordable, set off to wander aimlessly into the great unknown.

At some point well into the future, they will be rescued by a caring random soul that will help them find a pathway to find the General University Education for which they seek with outreach resources to rescue wandering vagabonds just like them and be saved.

For some, this journey may take months. Others, it will never come. For a few however, namely those that run a 4.4 -40 or who are 6-6, 325 with long arms athletic feet and a sub 5.0 40, process might take about five minutes.
