That’s my point. Are we going to offer big for a “name” coordinator? That doesn’t do it for me.3M/year isn't going to get us a hyped candidate from those pools either.

4-5M is going to be the starting point for "name" candidates. I'm not especially optimistic about who we bring in. I may be wrong, but the guy doing the hiring has made 3 HC hires in his career:That’s my point. Are we going to offer big for a “name” coordinator? That doesn’t do it for me.
This is the first legitimate criticism of Chun I have seen and it is concerning.4-5M is going to be the starting point for "name" candidates. I'm not especially optimistic about who we bring in. I may be wrong, but the guy doing the hiring has made 3 HC hires in his career:
Charlie Partridge, Bobby Wilder (school vetoed the deal for Lane Kiffen), and Nick Rolovich.
This has been one of my biggest issues - no track record of hiring a great football coach. This is the first legitimate criticism of Chun I have seen and it is concerning.

Fair points (especially the Boise State one). I guess I was expecting a little better track record from a guy who spent many years within the tOSU system. What school was he shopping for? What was the budget he was given to go shopping with? What was his own brand name at the time?
Knute Rockne isn’t going to Nowhere U, for $40, to coach for Nobody AD.
If you want a school with a good track record of hiring, Boise State.

FIU's athletic budget from a quick google search looks like somewhere between $22-27MIf you empty your pockets and have lint, Paul Wulff.
If you empty your pockets and have $4,000,000, Mike Leach.
What was the budget at those schools?

So they have $40 and an Olive Garden coupon to pay a HFC.
Lane’s salary there was $950,000.Strange how they were able to come up with the dollars to hire Lane Kiffen despite Chun's attempts to go another direction. He was paying Leach 4 million and replaced him with Rolovich for 3 million. No need to argue hypotheticals. We have actual information.
Lane’s salary there was $950,000.
I wouldnt have paid $4,000,000 for Turd either.
You'd think that would be enough to get a good coach.
Biggs, I don't think any of us disagree with your logic on this, but let me ask you a rhetorical question in the manner that you typically ask questions.$950,000 or $4,000,000?
If this is the first one you've seen, you should read more threads. This is the first legitimate criticism of Chun I have seen and it is concerning.

Leach left WSU a couple of years ago after multiple winning seasons, bowl games, ESPN Game Day, a new football complex, etc. We had a ton of momentum thanks to his turn around. So how did WSU and Chun address the coaching vacancy? By hiring a G5 coach for LESS money than we were paying Leach.
Fast forward to now when we're dealing with the lingering COVID situation, the Rolovich lawsuit mess, lower attendance, inflation, etc. Do you see the same President and the same AD going out and spending more money on a replacement coach than they did 2 years ago? I hope they do, but I don't see that happening, do you? How long have you followed WSU football?

Well again, I wouldn't. If it were me, I'd prioritize salary above everything else. For one, WSU needs elite coaching more than other schools in our conference, and secondly, Pullman (putting it lightly) isn't the most desirable geographical destination for many people. You know what makes it more desirable? $5M/year.Turd wasn’t worth the same money as Leach. Period. The end. So why would you pay him that?
If you wanted a West Coast guy that ran a passing offense to utilize the talent you already had, Turd was gonna be in the conversation. He already had Pac 12 wins on his resume. I don’t think it was a wild reach. Also, I have heard thru the grapevine there was a brand name coach whose name was leaked… it was shot down.
I don’t believe the lawsuit with Turd has an impact. I don’t believe the covid mandate has an impact unless the coach refuses to get vaxed. The entire league has issues with low attendance. I don’t believe it is fair to only point at WSU. And for $3,000,000 guys would coach in an empty stadium. I think they will do an enormous amount of background work on any candidate. The market is what the market is. If you want a good coach you pay. Looking at the recruiting the past 3 classes…. coaching transition, covid year, another coaching transition…. going cheap puts WSU right back into a bowl game drought. Why would you have a stadium remodel and build a football ops facility only to go cheap on the coach? Schulz and Chun earn their money with this hire.
Kind of strange. You'd think a few of the Amazon Cougs could dip into their sock drawer and find a few million each laying around.Well again, I wouldn't. With all of this said, I don't think WSU is going to pony up the big bucks. I just don't see it.
Why are wheat farmers suffering through worse year in quite awhile?Kind of strange. You'd think a few of the Amazon Cougs could dip into their sock drawer and find a few million each laying around.
Or blame the wheat farmers suffering through their worst year in quite a while for not ponying up.
Low yield, low prices, drought. Record setting heat in June and July f'd up the harvest. Why are wheat farmers suffering through worse year in quite awhile?
In a word: heat. Why are wheat farmers suffering through worse year in quite awhile?
The drought and mid-summer heat was the biggest problem for the northwest crop. The crop was already struggling from lack of moisture, and then the heat wave that came through just baked it in the fields. The statewide yields were down by almost 50% on average...some had basically complete failures. Prices really weren't terrible, but a lot of farmers just didn't have much to sell.Low yield, low prices, drought. Record setting heat in June and July f'd up the harvest.
So pretty much Trump's fault.
Gonna get worse. Nitrogen supplies/fertilizer all back up in the supply chain debacle. The drought and mid-summer heat was the biggest problem for the northwest crop. There really wasn't enough rain for the winter wheat crop either, and the rains in the last week or so have been too much all at once. The pain may not be over yet.
Well someone has to be blamedGonna get worse. Nitrogen supplies/fertilizer all back up in the supply chain debacle.
Been driving through the wheatfields for over 50 years out to Lake CDA via Freeman/Elder Rd. I've never seen the growth so sparse. Could see the dirt between the rows of wheat stalks. Usually the heads of the wheat stalks are so thick one is dirt isn't visible at all. Not quite Dust Bowl but as bad as I can ever remember.
All Trump's fault.
Well we need to get use to the hotter weather. Get use to the fires that essentially makes going to Chelan in August not enjoyable. And the fires that come down fro Canada are making people in seattle get air conditioning even if it is only for ten days.Makes as much sense as Trump's fault.

It is just where we are so the farmers may have to adjust some how.
Can't - really like Kokanee Beer.More general. Blame Canada.
