Cam could use that big FCS All-American and another like him.If Chiavverini is brought on board we might have some studs from the portal.
He hasn't committed yet....and I like competition and attitude that we are going to have aggressive recruiting.
1) JDL was Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. A bad half in a bowl game with basically a new & different offensive line and a 3rd string running back who doesn't know how to block doesn't cancel out a season's worth of accomplishment by JDL.There is no doubt that he will commit and sign with WSU, even over his offers from Auburn, Arizona, etc.
WSU is going to run his offense. The coach he probably loves, is OC at WSU. He is going to have fellow teammates at WSU. And he is probably going to Start at WSU, win the starting job.
Semi Blue Blood Auburn wants him to start at Auburn, in the SEC. Since Ward is good enough to Start at Auburn, Arizona, most P5 football programs, he is good enough, and should start at WSU.
Also JDL at the Bowl game, demonstrated, why he isn't as good as Ward, and why he has work to do.
And since 3rd, 4th string, Preferred Walk On, Redshirt Freshman, Victor Gabalis, played better in the Bowl, then JDL, and since Ward is better then Gabalis, then Ward is better then JDL
Also Ward knows the offense better, and can play better in the offense then JDL.
Ward also had about 5000 yards, 47 TD's, about only 8 to 13 INT's, about a 68+% completion rate, very few sacks, great mechanics(Better then JDL), is a winner, knows how to win, is about either a Redshirt JR, or True Senior, has 3 years of starting, playing experience, etc.
That's WAY THE HELL BETTER THEN JDL.
And that and other reasons, is why semi Blue Blood Auburn wants him.
If Ward wasn't better then JDL, Auburn wouldn't want him.
And that's why Ward will beat out JDL and start, and because of that and the above reasons, Ward will go to WSU, lead WSU to about a 8-5, 8-4, 9-4 season, bowl game, lead the nation in almost every QB stat, play in the NFL, just like Minshew.
Now it remains to be seen if JDL stays.
If he does stay, he is the #1 back up, then starts after Ward leaves.
And it was another thread on this board that pointed out the Auburn offer for Ward, in case was wondering where I got that.
JDL needs to sit the next year behind Ward, then start the next year after that, when Ward leaves.
JDL will be a great starter his Junior, Senior years, but remains to be seen if he will wait that long.
But despite Ward probably being the starter, it will probably be a epic battle for ,QB1, if JDL stays.
This bowl game Exposed why JDL, still isn't ready yet, even tho he was one of the Pac 12's best, and SEEMED ready.

2) I hope Cameron Ward decides to become a Coug. But before heaping a bunch of accolades on him, remember that his accomplishments have come at the FCS level. I'd like a little more proof that it will translate to the next level. After all, we heard many of the same things about Gubrud. (And Oregon fans heard much the same about Vernon Adams).
3) No offense, Mik, but you were giving a lot of the same high praise before the season for Guarantano and that he should clearly be the starter. Look where that got us. He was disastrous.
4) Maybe you have no doubt that Ward will come to WSU, but I"m not so sure. Auburn's 3-year starter at QB (Bo Nix) has transferred to Oregon and they are looking for more QBs. Again, I hope Cameron comes to Pullman. I think the competition at QB would be good for the program and we'll need at least 2 very capable QBs on the team, if not more. If the offensive line is going to take some time to develop, that's especially true.
5) Let's wait for more information about de Laura, the nature of his injury (perhaps he was playing hurt in that first half) and avoid knee-jerk reactions based on the Sun Bowl.
Glad Cougar
We are clearly working toward a QB lineup of only Wards.Awesome for Cameron Ward. But where the heck was Xavier Ward.
Does anyone know if Ward traveled? We are clearly working toward a QB lineup of only Wards.
I'd really like him to though. He hasn't committed yet....and I like competition and attitude that we are going to have aggressive recruiting.
Good stuff there. Excellent!Cameron Ward is visiting next weekend, so…..
Love how you organized that from premise to conclusion or vice-versa or whatever he has going on at any given time. Glad, you have a great deal of patience. Mik might need a proof reader. Is this the stud recruiter you were speaking of?If Chiavverini is brought on board we might have some studs from the portal.
Lots to unpack considering what happened yesterday. I would think JDL would understand we need more depth at QB and a true freshman signed isn’t depth it’s for down the road. Dickert spoke very clearly of building the team around him. JG was brought in last year too and he beat him out (according to everyone but Rolo). My take. I like Jayden and think he can be a winner. We need to bring someone in. Jayden still has some growing up to do as he showed yesterday when he got hit early and lost his focus. If he decides to leave it just confirms the above and Ward looks like a damn good QB that could step right in if he chooses WSU.My guess...Cameron Ward comes in and JDL leaves (and honestly...I think it would be a net positive...yes, I know, I know, that's blasphemous to say).
I just don't see JDL wanting to battle out competition. I'll leave the opinions up to the forum.

Fine line between personal attacks and football observations. I have been a JDL cheerleader all year with others talking about his mechanics, inability to throw the deep ball, etc. He shut all of that up with his AC. That said, I’ve watched and played a lot of football and I saw a guy who at best, lost his focus, and at worse, packed it in, after he got rocked early. He’s the QB and leader of the offense. He’s going to play in games where a lineman and RB get hurt. Yesterday he didn’t face the diversity head on and lead his team, he backpedaled and spun his way away from it. That’s not leadership, and the type of leaders you are looking for at QB don’t choose when to be leaders based on the situation. The true leaders step up in the toughest situations. I still like him. He’s still young. But he’s got a ways to go in this department IMO. I don’t think that’s unfair. It's one thing to opine that JDL's mechanics and/or decision making aren't where they need to be, but some posters pull comments out of the air like "I think JDL leaves (which is a net positive) because he doesn't want to battle out competition."
I mean, we all make silly comments on here, but where did this one come from? JDL played QB at St. Louis High School in Honolulu, one of the most QB competitive high schools in the Nation. He chose WSU over multiple offers and started his first game (a win) in the midst of a COVID year where he didn't have a spring or fall camp to learn from. He then, due to a bad personal decision, sat out Spring ball and lost the starting job. By everyone's admission within the program, he never pouted or sulked when the decision was made to start Guarantano. He kept competing and won the job back. He played through a fairly significant knee situation this season which cost him a couple of games, including the 2nd half yesterday. Hell, he had to bounce all over the west coast just to make it to El Paso for the Sun Bowl. He flew from Honolulu to Seattle, his flight was cancelled to El Paso, so he flew to Arizona I believe and shuttled 4 hours to the game.
4 of the most critically important pieces on the offense opted out (one was suspended) yesterday, Calvin Jackson Jr. was knocked on the 2nd series, and JDL was rocked multiple times by inept line blocking and matador blitz pickup. He was unable to play in the 2nd half after needing x-rays, but with all of that, he's being called a pussy and having his competitive desire questioned because we offered an FCS QB to fill a glaring depth need? Where is he going to transfer to where he doesn't have to compete? Is there a big NIL program like Oregon, Texas, or Ohio State out there ready to promise him the starting job, free of any top level competition?
Whether the kid develops into a top-tier QB is a completely different argument, but where do these personal attacks come from? He's like the most popular kid in the program. Works hard. Came from an economically tough upbringing. He had a DUI, but I can't imagine that you guys are holding him down for that, are you?
This is ridiculous.
And you realize SC & tOSU offered DeLaura right?

I would have figured that the video of him barely being able to walk off the field at halftime and having xrays on his knee that already required surgery before the game would have been enough.Fine line between personal attacks and football observations. Not sure I agree. Not at USC...but maybe OSU. OSU had a commit from a kid from Arizona, 5 star kid that committed 18 months before signing day. CJ Stroud and Delaura offered late in the recruiting cycle. Miller the five star kid got beat out by Stroud the afterthought pick up. The five star kid was in the portal. He would never play for either of those schools.
If you can’t see it I can’t explain it to youI would have figured that the video of him barely being able to walk off the field at halftime and having xrays on his knee that already required surgery before the game would have been enough.
He spun away from a Wulffian offensive line and a running back with no clue how to blitz pickup and got rocked. How in the world does that equate to his lack of leadership?

Patrol...they aren't x raying his knee. I missed him limping off but I trust you saw it.I would have figured that the video of him barely being able to walk off the field at halftime and having xrays on his knee that already required surgery before the game would have been enough.

Stroud is and did? He was an afterthought as well.Ohio State has so much QB talent the kids transfer and win national titles.
JDL isn’t playing there. Ever.
Why did Dickert say he's having x-rays taken? Seems odd that he'd pull that out of the ether.Patrol...they aren't x raying his knee. I missed him limping off but I trust you saw it.
Maybe the disconnect is many are old school, thinking he will chase the dollars of NIL. I could see a windfall if he went back to Hawaii. I think because of his flash or desire for flare, (BTW a cockiness, arrogance that was needed against UW) that people assume he is chasing what is next best for him.
I could see him transferring, but that is just my nature. I don't think it is a coincidence Lucas, Beresford, etc sat this one out. I think there is still hangover from the rolo situation and he may seek a better fit.
I look at small clues. Why did Ward wait until after the game to announce the offer? Did he not have one before then? If not, why did WSU offer him during the game? Did something other than the x rays happen at halftime, like DeLaura saying WTF they are going to kill me out here? And if he did...would I blame him the way 61 couldn't block me if I had a walker?
I would have figured that the video of him barely being able to walk off the field at halftime and having xrays on his knee that already required surgery before the game would have been enough.
He spun away from a Wulffian offensive line and a running back with no clue how to blitz pickup and got rocked. How in the world does that equate to his lack of leadership?
Well, for starters, we shuffled the offensive line around and addressed the right tackle situation at halftime. We made adjustments to play calling and simplified the scheme to account for Gabalis in the 2nd half, and it paid off. CMU dropped additional guys in coverage in the 2nd half given their lead. Our guys, with a half under their belts, were more comfortable in the 2nd half.Gabalis had to deal with that same line, RB, and blitzes that weren't picked up, etc, the same things JDL had to deal with.
Why wasn't Gabalis injured, why did Gabalis do way better? Because Gabalis spotted open WR's better, passed quicker, got rid of the ball faster, threw the ball away at times, didn't hold onto the ball at times, stepped up into the pocket, instead of running backwards, and got luckier that didn't get hurt, when he did get hit, etc.
Now JDL, Gabalis can't control their luck of whether or not they get injured or not, when hit, sacked, and whether their WR's got open, etc, but they can control things like not running backwards, stepping into pocket, throwing ball away, passing quicker, spotting open WR, faster, better, being more accurate in their throws, not holding onto ball too long, etc.
Gabalis was 4th string earlier in season, Preferred Walk On, Redshirt Freshman, etc, No way should he have done way the hell better then JDL.
But he did. And altho I don't know why Gabalis did better this 1 time, when he is usually sucky, since Gabalis did this good, JDL shouldn't have SUCKED in the bowl game, since Gabalis did good facing the same things JDL had to deal with.
This shows that JDL is not quite there yet, and still needs to figure things out, and that while JDL is a gamer, can have strings of 3,4,6 good games, he then can have 1,2 bad games like the bowl game.
If it was all about the line, RB, etc, Gabalis shouldn't have done good, and should have been even worse then the sucky game JDL had
