Cameron Ward Highlights

Two things...
Like Fro said, super quick release.
Second...he's going to love Martin Stadium. That UIW stadium looked like a JUCO field.

Love the quick release, how his feet are planted and the how quickly he makes decisions.
It really is noticeable. He plays under control, and has a very quick release. He stepped up in the pocket and made some big plays that de Laura would have spun backwards. de Laura may have made a big play, or he may have taken a drive killing sack. I just love the calmness with how Ward plays.

I’m no expert but I’ve seen allot of football but I said the same thing to myself. The guy is calm in the pocket.

Like I said Cam Ward would have beat out JDL had JDL stayed.

I know it's just 1 video, and it's the FCS, instead of P5, Pac 12, but a lot of his skills, etc, translates to higher, highest levels.

1. Speed of the game. There are those that said that since FBS, P5, Pac 12 faster, that he wouldn't be, look as good. But he has a extremely fast release, that will still be as good vs even the best P5, Pac 12 defenses.

2. Accuracy, touch, at all angles, depths, even the 45 to 63 yard, almost hail Mary deep ball. I know that the highlights never show the bad throws, but even if only about 53% to 55% to 57% of his passes, especially the extreme deep ball, has this extreme level of accuracy, touch, finesse, where he puts the ball almost perfectly to WR, where the DB has no chance at it, etc, then that's still amazing, fantastic, awesome at any level, and can be done, replicated at the higher, best levels.

3. Some say "well that's easy to do if he has all day to throw" Well several times he was rushed, hurried, got hit, almost took sacks, so he did it under clutch pressure. That also can be replicated at higher levels.

4. A few might say "He holds onto the ball to long". He actually showed very good awareness. Yes he held onto ball a long time, but he made good reads, remained calm, didn't panic, didn't run backwards, moved WITHIN WITH the pocket, and when he saw that he had run out of time, and had to get rid of it, or take the sack, he extremely quickly successfully passed the ball before getting hit, sacked.

He can, will probably do same at the higher level, because no matter the level, he can, probably will pass the ball before getting sacked, etc.

5. Even at that FCS level, he was doing those highlights against extremely good competition that was rushing, blitzing him well, and covering his receivers well, and he still beat that. He can probably replicate that at WSU.

6. Can throw on run, scramble when has to, roll out, run the ball himself. That translates well to highest levels.

7. He has a CANNON arm can throw a 73 yard deep ball accurately, can make ALL the throws, at all angles, depth's, distances, etc.
That translates well to highest levels.

8. He has good footwork, and great mechanics. His throw is not only strong, accurate, quick, but also smooth, good tight spin, good trajectories, looks good, etc.

Now the video doesn't show things like the intangibles, leadership, what's between the ears, heart, attitude, etc, but I think it would be fair to assume that he wouldn't make all these wonderful CLUTCH plays, if he was lacking in the intangibles, etc.

This video BLOWS away any highlight film that could do on JDL.

The things that Cam Ward does in this Video translates well to, at WSU.

Cam Ward would beat out JDL.

Lot to like here…..Kid has some gifts

I had hadn’t watched any of this highlights until now. Partially because I really don’t have a good enough eye to truly evaluate talent and partially because it was a waste of my time until he became a Coug.

I will say the side arm release was a little odd but it’s quick, it’s accurate and he can put some zip on it. I’m sure there will be a learning curve adjusting to this level. There were some bad defenses in those highlights.

He seems to have a feel for when to rip it and when to give it some touch too. JDL got better at this but sometimes he would uncork a laser for no reason to a receiver 5 yards away. That soft seam pass into the end zone between the LB and safety is rare to see at this level. Most QBs don’t have the confidence in their timing on that throw to not get picked or get their receiver killed. He’s definitely a special talent.

That's what I saw too. A ton of highlights where he has all day to throw and is hitting WRs 15 yards open. I'm excited that we have him, as he's clearly a worthy prospect, but I'm reserving judgement until I see him play at this level. Week 2 at Wisconsin will be a good test.

Well there was one to his RB on that clip that went for a long touchdown. An impromptu thing from what I could tell. That RB (#4?) was crazy fast. Or everyone else was slow as molasses.
Was thinking the same thing. Would be curious to see some film on him since we need RBs too

So fast that he tripped over his own feet and still scored the TD. If he can block whatsoever, I think he would be an intriguing prospect to look at. Oh and #0 the WR is a kind of a beast as well. Reminds me a bit of Gabe Marks.

I sure hope fans don't end up putting unrealistic expectations on Ward.

He's very talented.

But, there will be adjustments necessary for him, probably in terms of speed of play/athleticism by opposing defenses at the P5 level. Also with fitting in, on a completely different team, where he is essentially replacing a well liked guy who transferred out. And doing so with a reworked OL and RB situation, with everyone involved (except maybe Ward) learning a different system

In a perfect world it will work out fine. In the real world, there will some bumps along the way. I sure hope we, as fans, can ride out the bumps without getting too negative.

As former President of the JDL fan club, I solemnly swear that I will only hold Cam Ward to the standard that JDL was held to. P12 newcomer of the year or 1st or 2nd team all-conference.

Too late- kinda interesting who’s missing from that picture though ain’t it?

Well....I guess he is swimming in the deep end of the big boy pool now? Let's hope he lives up to the hype!

Still, I hope the fan base doesn't get overly toxic if there are speed bumps along the way.

Why are coaches adding in the pressure being added to the dude? Not the approach I would take.

Semi Realistic, High Expectations, goals that set by self, family, friends, coaches, fans, etc is a GOOD thing.

It's better to aim for the Moon and come close, almost hit, but just barely miss, then to not aim, not have pressure, etc, and hit MUD, on the ground.

LIFE IS PRESSURE.

And so far he has handled PRESSURE, GOALS, TRIALS, etc, very well.

A kid with his talent, should have been able to go-to a SC, etc

But he had to go-to a IW, type.

He could have cried, had a bad attitude, and not done well.

Pretty sure he had the occasional bump there, but he persevered, learned from his mistakes, and became the BEST QB, in ALL OF FCS HISTORY,

Like he said, he didn't take the elevator, HE CLIMBED, SCRAPPED to the top, UNDER PRESSURE, etc

And that didn't happen by not aiming, not having expectations on him, etc.

So EXPECTATIONS, PRESSURE, ETC are GOOD things, and life is about learning how to meet them, deal with them well

And of course he is going to have the rare, uncommon, occasional mistakes, bumps, etc.

But he will learn from them, pass thru them and still overall, still do well at WSU.

Also he doesn't have to win the national championship, win a Rose bowl, etc. Even going 8-4, 9-4, 10-3, 11-2, conference championship game, Alamo Bowl, Vegas Bowl, etc, 3333 yards, 29 TD's, Pac 12 2nd Team, Honorable mention, etc, would be ok, great, awesome.

And he will be semi likely to do that.

Not ok: 4-8,5-7, 6-6, 7-6, etc, whatchamacallit bowl, 1750 yards, 13 TD's, 17 INT's, etc.

Now if he got 5-7, 6-7, 7-6, 8-5, 2750 20 TD's, 12 INT's, PODUNK Bowl, etc, his first year, that would be ok, but I would expect a lot more his 2nd year or 3rd year.

And I'm sure he has these expectations of himself.

And those expectations, pressures are a good thing

If he can't handle it, cracks, etc, ok, next QB up, etc. But I don't see that happening.

I see him meeting, dealing with those expectations, pressures.

So expectations, pressures is a good thing.

I'm hardly some film junkie, because by & large, I don't know what I'm looking at. But, man, you can't even see this guy's arm move he's got such a quick release. Wonder why Leach wasn't all over this guy.
Same reason no one else was - he played in a wing T offense coming out of high school. Or if you are referring to now, its because Leach has a starter for the next three years already.

I see they've scrubbed Gesser from the archives. But, is that Tuel in the middle? I'd put Brink over Tuel.
It’s Brink, not Tuel.

but- Tuel, Falk, Minshew and Good sin have all been in NFL rosters this decade.

Leach has a pretty good QB who will be a true sophomore next year.

Its the right thing to do; I don't like not having JG be part of our history, and obviously we can't erase him from having ever played here (nor would I want to), but we can't laud him as one of our heroes now. It really sucks, because some of my fondest Coug memories are from driving up to those games, partying all weekend, and then slogging home 6 hours in a RV you could hear a pin drop in.

Just stay away from social media throughout the season.

Did I miss the wing-t in those high school highlights?

Pretty good 3 point shooter.

Coach Morris knows him better than we do. Maybe he responds to this kind of buildup. I agree with you I wouldn’t be going there either but I trust he knows what he’s doing.

True.

I could also see it as this is what we expect so put in the work.
