The 9 are:

Memphis, Tulane, USF, UNLV, UTSA, Texas St, Rice, UNT, Nevada.

So 1 of those 9, will be the 8th Pac 12 football team, according to what sources have told Canzano.

Wow - he's really going out on a limb with this prediction. I'll join him on the limb - the Cougs will win between 1 and 9 games this year. You read it here first. :)

As to the list, the only one that makes me not want to throw up is UNLV. Nevada? maybe just in my mouth if they follow UNLV.

Memphis/Tulane/USF. Too f-ing far, travel costs will outweigh any marginal benefit they bring. The Texas 4? Whatever.

For those non-believers that think any of these scenarios other than UNLV and Nevada are somehow better than the reverse merger in terms of our stature, then you are delusional. It can still happen. The Alaska Air Pac-X, 16 FB Schools, 18 BB schools. Best of the G5 by far.

Mountain West is now watered down even more and there's potential travel to Hawaii, El Paso TX, and Illinois. That ship has sailed. Even with the bumpy ride to get to 8 for football going that route was always down the list of optimal outcomes IMO.

Travel to Hawaii. Oh the horror. Illinois? one FB trip every 2-3 years? More horror. Looked at our 2025 FB travel schedule lately?

I see that 1 future MW team (GCU) made the Big Dance, plus soon to be left behind NM, and 3 soon to be MW traitors. SDSU, CSU and Utah State. Horrible. But the Pac-2 teams both made it. Oh wait they didn't.

GCU and SDSU did make the now money-earning Women's tournament. OSU did manage to get in there.

UNLV makes the most sense. They are in a decent TV market. Have NFL and NHL. MLB is on the way and NBA not far out. Having a solid Vegas college team makes sense.

If Pac 12 take Nevada as 8th football team, then they should have merged instead. Only reason not to merge is to NOT TAKE, END UP WITH NEVADA, HAWAI, NEW MEXICO, any of the bottom 4 bottom dwellers.

If take Nevada, it's going to piss BSU off, as the reason they left MWC was to not be in a conference with Nevada or any of the bottom dweller bottom 4.

So HELL NO to Nevada. And BSU, also says, is saying, going to say HELL NO to Nevada.
Which means since UNLV and Nevada tied together, then UNLV is not a option. Plus UNLV is not gona leave MWC anyway to join Pac 12.

Memphis, Tulane, USF, as good as they would be for Pac 12, they won't join Pac 12, or it would cost too much.

So that means it's really down to Texas St, Rice, UNT.

UNLV won't leave the MWC to join the Pac 12. And even if they would, they would only do so if Nevada came with them.

HELL NO TO NEVADA. ALSO ECHOED BY BSU.

It’s not the where, it’s the cost to get to the where. A Hawaii trip cost a lot to play programs that typically aren’t the best especially for non-football.

It wasn’t a good idea when you wanted it originally and it’s a worse deal now.

GCU & NM would have dropped the MW for the new Pac if offered.

Mountain West is watered down with BOTTOM DWELLERS Nevada, NM, Hawai, Utep, etc, THAT DRAG DOWN, HOLD BACK MWC, and cause the MWC to get less money, worse media deals, etc.

Bring in one or bring in all. It’s not going to change reality one bit.

WSU will still have a Media package that is dwarfed by the NIL Salary Cap in the BIG-10 and SEC. WSU will remain effectively shut out of National discussion and opportunity to compete in the playoffs.

It's not the travel distance, it's the travel distance to play a SHITTY team like Hawai. If Memphis was in Hawai, instead of in Memphis, and if Traveled to Hawai to play a Memphis type team, game, then the travel to Hawai would be worth it

Another problem is that to play UNLV, Airforce, NIU, GCU, you have to have in your conference a SHITTY BOTTOM DWELLER, BOTTOM 4,5 Nevada, New Mexico, Hawai, Utep, etc, THAT DRAGS YOUR CONFERENCE DOWN, THAT HOLDS YOUR CONFERENCE BACK, THAT COST YOUR CONFERENCE A LOT OF MONEY, THAT CAUSES YOUR CONFERENCE TO GET A WORSE MEDIA DEAL, THAT CAUSES YOUR CFP ACCESS TO BE LIMITED, WORSE, ETC.

And it does not matter how good at basketball Nevada, New Mexico, Hawai, Utep, etc, are, as IT'S FOOTBALL THAT MATTERS, THAT MATTERS IN REGARDS TO MOST MONEY, MOST PRESTIGE, BETTER MEDIA DEALS, ETC.

THERE IS A REASON WHY BSU LEFT MWC, TO JOIN PAC 12, AND THAT'S BECAUSE BSU DID NOT WANT TO BE IN A CONFERENCE WITH SHITTY Nevada, Hawai, New Mexico, Utep, etc, DRAGGING THEM DOWN, HOLDING THEM BACK, COSTING THEM MONEY, PRESTIGE, LIMITING THEIR CFP ACCESS, ETC.

WSU will have the same media package, altho it was just barely be slightly better with Memphis, etc, so from the media deal perspective it doesn't matter who get.

The reason you get a Memphis, etc. The reason you don't merge with SHIT(New Mexico, Hawai, etc):

1. To be the 5th best, BEST of Rest conference in USA. You can't be 5th best, best of rest with SHIT like Hawai in your conference. And if have 4,5,6 SHIT teams in conference, your going to be a SHITTY conference that 20th conference.

2. To have your conference champ goto CFP, 99% of time. If you have 4,5,6 SHITTY teams, in conference, then conference Champ will only goto CFP about 33% to 50% to 67% of time, and have to share CFP with AAC, MWC, etc.

3. While Media deal won't be substantially larger FOR 1,2,3 years, by getting a Memphis type over a SHIT team, etc, in about 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 years the media deal CAN, WILL get Substantially bigger if you A. Get a Memphis type over a SHIT team. B. Memphis type, entire conference does well. C. You add 2,3 more Memphis types in future. Canzano, other experts have said that 1 good team won't change media deal, but if get 2,3,4 good teams, instead of only 1 good team, that that would change, make media deal better in about 1,2,3 years.

4. For recruiting. Even if WSU never goes to CFP. If Pac 12 gets a good team over a shit team, and if BSU, etc, continues to goto CFP, etc, then recruits will want to goto WSU to be in the 5th best conference in USA.

5. WSU, once every 3 to 5 to 10 to 15 years will beat BSU, SDSU, Fresno St, Utah St, CSU, Ore St, 8th football member, finish 12-0, 11-1, GOTO PLAYOFFS. If WSU in a SHIT conference, with 4,5,6 SHIT teams like Hawai, then even if WSU goes 12-0, 11-1, CFP people won't let WSU into CFP because played SHIT like Hawai. WSU needs to be in a good conference with all good teams, but not TOO GOOD, TOO TOUGH. Old PAC 10/12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, Big 12, TOO TOUGH. WSU never make CFP in those too tough conferences. Too easy conferences like Sun Belt, C-USA, MWC, WSU would not make CFP, winning those conferences. The middle ground is NEW Pac 12 that has NO SHIT TEAMS, that 5th best conference in USA.

Until we know how the legal challenges to the MW exit fees goes, all the MW teams on the list are probably off the table, especially UNLV (given the sweetener they were given by MW to stay, which MW won't be able to afford without a successful legal result).

Memphis & Tulane are off the boards until we know how the media deal turns out.

That essentially leaves the Texas teams. Tx St is by far the easiest in the short term, but the idea that all of the TX teams could eventually form a pod (along with Memphis and Tulane) is not ridiculous.

Mik - calm the F down - You'll give yourself a stroke. And as far as your Hawaii hate goes, WSU is 3-3 all-time against them. And I seem to recall a major ass-kicking from them over in Seattle a few years back. And last I read, NM beat us in FB last year. And BSU made the CFP just fine playing in that "shit" league.
