Wow - he's really going out on a limb with this prediction. I'll join him on the limb - the Cougs will win between 1 and 9 games this year. You read it here first. The 9 are:
Memphis, Tulane, USF, UNLV, UTSA, Texas St, Rice, UNT, Nevada.
So 1 of those 9, will be the 8th Pac 12 football team, according to what sources have told Canzano.
Mountain West is now watered down even more and there's potential travel to Hawaii, El Paso TX, and Illinois. That ship has sailed. Even with the bumpy ride to get to 8 for football going that route was always down the list of optimal outcomes IMO.For those non-believers that think any of these scenarios other than UNLV and Nevada are somehow better than the reverse merger in terms of our stature, then you are delusional. It can still happen. The Alaska Air Pac-X, 16 FB Schools, 18 BB schools. Best of the G5 by far.
Travel to Hawaii. Oh the horror. Illinois? one FB trip every 2-3 years? More horror. Looked at our 2025 FB travel schedule lately?Mountain West is now watered down even more and there's potential travel to Hawaii, El Paso TX, and Illinois. That ship has sailed. As to the list, the only one that makes me not want to throw up is UNLV. Nevada? maybe just in my mouth if they follow UNLV.
Memphis/Tulane/USF. Too f-ing far, travel costs will outweigh any marginal benefit they bring. The Texas 4? Whatever.

UNLV makes the most sense. They are in a decent TV market. Have NFL and NHL. MLB is on the way and NBA not far out. Having a solid Vegas college team makes sense.
It’s not the where, it’s the cost to get to the where. A Hawaii trip cost a lot to play programs that typically aren’t the best especially for non-football.Travel to Hawaii. Oh the horror. Illinois? one FB trip every 2-3 years? More horror. Looked at our 2025 FB travel schedule lately?
I see that 1 future MW team (GCU) made the Big Dance, plus soon to be left behind NM, and 3 soon to be MW traitors. SDSU, CSU and Utah State. Horrible. But the Pac-2 teams both made it. Oh wait they didn't.
GCU and SDSU did make the now money-earning Women's tournament. OSU did manage to get in there.

Bring in one or bring in all. It’s not going to change reality one bit.
WSU will still have a Media package that is dwarfed by the NIL Salary Cap in the BIG-10 and SEC. WSU will remain effectively shut out of National discussion and opportunity to compete in the playoffs.
Mik - calm the F down - You'll give yourself a stroke. And as far as your Hawaii hate goes, WSU is 3-3 all-time against them. And I seem to recall a major ass-kicking from them over in Seattle a few years back. And last I read, NM beat us in FB last year. And BSU made the CFP just fine playing in that "shit" league.WSU will have the same media package, altho it was just barely be slightly better with Memphis, etc, so from the media deal perspective it doesn't matter who get.
The reason you get a Memphis, etc. The reason you don't merge with SHIT(New Mexico, Hawai, etc):
1. To be the 5th best, BEST of Rest conference in USA. You can't be 5th best, best of rest with SHIT like Hawai in your conference. And if have 4,5,6 SHIT teams in conference, your going to be a SHITTY conference that 20th conference.
2. To have your conference champ goto CFP, 99% of time. If you have 4,5,6 SHITTY teams, in conference, then conference Champ will only goto CFP about 33% to 50% to 67% of time, and have to share CFP with AAC, MWC, etc.
3. While Media deal won't be substantially larger FOR 1,2,3 years, by getting a Memphis type over a SHIT team, etc, in about 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 years the media deal CAN, WILL get Substantially bigger if you A. Get a Memphis type over a SHIT team. B. Memphis type, entire conference does well. C. You add 2,3 more Memphis types in future. Canzano, other experts have said that 1 good team won't change media deal, but if get 2,3,4 good teams, instead of only 1 good team, that that would change, make media deal better in about 1,2,3 years.
4. For recruiting. Even if WSU never goes to CFP. If Pac 12 gets a good team over a shit team, and if BSU, etc, continues to goto CFP, etc, then recruits will want to goto WSU to be in the 5th best conference in USA.
5. WSU, once every 3 to 5 to 10 to 15 years will beat BSU, SDSU, Fresno St, Utah St, CSU, Ore St, 8th football member, finish 12-0, 11-1, GOTO PLAYOFFS. If WSU in a SHIT conference, with 4,5,6 SHIT teams like Hawai, then even if WSU goes 12-0, 11-1, CFP people won't let WSU into CFP because played SHIT like Hawai. WSU needs to be in a good conference with all good teams, but not TOO GOOD, TOO TOUGH. Old PAC 10/12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, Big 12, TOO TOUGH. WSU never make CFP in those too tough conferences. Too easy conferences like Sun Belt, C-USA, MWC, WSU would not make CFP, winning those conferences. The middle ground is NEW Pac 12 that has NO SHIT TEAMS, that 5th best conference in USA.
