Cougs vs Trees

I wonder if they go with Jakimovski as a starter tonight? Get the offense off and keep the early fouls down for either Efe or Gueye.

Cougars looking good. Stanford is a great offensive rebounding team, and they are showing it. Otherwise, the Cougars would be up by double digits instead of just six. Both teams are playing hard.

Interestingly enough, Stanford does not normally shoot many threes. But, in this game, most of their shots have been beyond the arc.

Roberts and Flowers usually not both on at the same time but both were pretty dialed in. Efe with a solid half as well. Pretty solid in terms of turnovers and kept the fouls to the bigs down.

Efe's been rolled into and landed on twice and picked up a foul for his troubles each time. Bit of an unlucky stretch with Williams picking up the player control setting up Gueye. Needed that Flowers-to-Gueye finish.

The Cougars have weathered the run by Stanford. They cut the lead to 5, now it is back to 15, now 13 with two free throws.

Rodman has had a nice impact on the offensive end. Interesting final 7. Hopefully we can build on the lead.

The guy missed the shot and the Cougars got the rebound. But, the Stanford player dragged the pivit foot several times trying to make a move.

Not sure what he did wrong.
not talking about any current play although his last offensive foul was awful. he has just made bad passes, bad fouls, bad turnovers and is shooting under 20% from three all year

Well, didn't build on the lead but held on and got the win. Chance for a sweep which would keep us in the discussion for another week.

And yet, in big moments Coach Smith has him out there. The team is winning, and all you want to do is complain. There is something wrong with that. What about Jaki taking a quick shot instead of running clock. What about Gueye missing three straight free throws late in the game, including the front end of a one and one. I watched this game and Williams was busting his butt on defense. They win as a team, and lose as a team.

Missing free throws hurt. They didn't handle the Stanford press very well. Plus, Stanford got hot from the outside. But, this is a game they likely would have lost earlier in the season. Road victories are never easy, and Stanford is not a bad team.

Finally a win over a team in the "Top Half" of the Pac12 conference (Stanford is in 7th place, barely).

Agree on the good defense from Noah tonight but no question decision making is a struggle. He made a pretty brilliant pass for an easy finish, but momentum takes him into Keefe and he picks up the offensive foul wiping off the Gueye dunk. He looks healthy so I'm hoping it's just finding his rhythm. We are of course a lot better if he can start to produce on the offensive end.

Gutsy win. Win didn't let this one slip away. I could complain about some bad shots toward the end of the game and a couple other things, but Furd is one of the teams I dislike the most....so this was a terrific win.

We are showing a mental toughness and resourcefulness we didn't have earlier this season, so that is fun to watch.

Funny how Rodman burned this "smart" team twice with the same play on the inbounds...just on opposite sides of the basket. They finally wised up the third time and he couldn't pull it off. I thought these Furd guys were so smart? 😀

Winning while Noah didn't score but 3 points was a good sign (and yes, I realize his defense is tough and valuable).

Not a fan of zones, but it has really been effective for the most part the past two games.

They were in the 30s KenPom heading into this game. Both these games are huge and gets them one step closer to the tourney. If they beat cal they are gonna be in pretty good shape with some solid momentum heading into the Zona game which should be a nice turnout and a tough environment w 5 straight wins.

That was unfortunate and there was a time that a play like that wasn't called if the ball left the hand before contact. Cougars are currently in 4th place. But, that will probably change with both the uw and Oregon playing right now.

For as bad as the P12 is in football compared to the other power 5 conference schools, as a hoops conference we’re quite strong. If we beat Cal, we’ll move to 7-3 conference and 14-7 overall. Certainly not terrible.

The "charge" had zero to do with the play. The pass was probably in Gueye's hands before Noah runs into Keefe. To me that's not good defense and in general I'm not a fan of the way the charge is called these days but as long as they call it both ways it is what it is.
