Curious: did Leach sell his Pullman house?

I am moving from Austin this weekend. It is ridiculous here. They can’t build houses fast enough. It’s not as expensive as Seattle but it will be there soon enough.

I hope it was better living in Austin than driving through it. I was happy to spend $18 in tolls just to avoid that godforsaken place. I spent an hour driving five miles through that hellhole on a trip about ten years ago and vowed to avoid it as much as possible after that. The other advantage to the tolls? I got to drive 90 miles an hour with no fear of getting ticketed.

I can confirm Austin (or, at least, outside of the city a bit) is pretty good compared to a lot of places, especially if one has a career requiring being tied to a fairly big city.

and Austin has Mcmansion suburban sprawl.

Maybe on the West side of town by the lake. Homes out there are nothing but huge. Going north is probably more 3 or 4 bedroom stuff... roughly 2000 square feet give or take a little bit. The homes in Austin are not nearly as big as what they are building or have built in Houston.

In Houston you can find 3,000 square feet for $225,000. Maybe even less.

But then you live in Houston. Better buy a boat.

1. San Antonio (love the River City)

2-6. Austin + El Paso + Beaumont + Tyler + Waco (like a lot -- for different reasons of course)

Dead Last. Anywhere near Dallas. Anywhere near Houston (would rather spend a week quarantined in a flophouse overrun by Zags, Huskies and Ducks than being stuck in either of those two God-awful metropolises)

Most common tourist activities while visiting DFW and HOU

1. Go to lousy Tex-Mex chain for mystery meat fajitas and half-price watered-down margaritas

2. Idle in traffic on I-35 or I-45 and holler "Go idiot!" every 30 seconds to no avail

3. Wander around upscale Galleria shopping mall to ogle fake boobs on soccer moms and cheerleader sponsors

4. Bitch/worry about wind/tornadoes in Dallas or humidity/hurricanes in Houston

5. Wish you were anywhere else in Texas but Houston or Dallas
