Current events thread perhaps?

Matt Gaetz is an odd looking dude. I don't like judging by media, but more by a person's votes and actions.

I can't really say Matt Gaetz was good, bad, or indifferent, but when you're pissing a lot of people off... you better have something to show you're right and you know what you're doing.

I swear he could've been on the football team from Revenge of the Nerds
Is there a better real life lookalike to “Butthead” out there? I think Gaetz is a total tool, but instead of trying to oust him, Ds should find a candidate that looks just like Bevis to debate with him on the house floor. Our government is a clown show let’s just accept it and make it entertaining.

I don’t think you get to make that call.

Is it possible he’s just ahead of the curve?

Couldn’t remember where the egg thread was. This was the most recent political thread

Now, about killing 290 million hens …
Post Falls WalMart egg shelves were about 90% empty yesterday when I walked by them. Prices were over $7 for whatever type they were. I didn't look to verify but I am guessing that the options that were sold out were the cheaper types.

Except that it's not true. THere's an effort to ban mRNA vaccines in Montana, Idaho, and Florida. Most of the other states on the list have done something to restrict vaccine mandates, but not the vaccines themselves. Most of the efforts against mandates are old news, and most of the "justification" supporting the bans in Montana and Idaho are based on conspiracy theories that have essentially no basis in fact.

Meanwhile, RFK and his cronies support a "pause" on distribution of vaccines for polio, tetanus, diphtheria, hepatitis A and B, mostly over a concern that they contain small amounts of aluminum, which may be connected with a slight increase in asthma. Because obviously, there's no other way for anyone to be exposed to aluminum.

Cool, so we can agree that RFK Jr is an unqualified nominee?
What do you consider the qualifications for a cabinet nominee? That is an honest question. I'll predict that whatever you consider the qualifications to be, I will be able to name a President on both sides of the aisle that nominated someone "unqualified" that was confirmed by the Senate.

Some people think that the only factor that matters is if they can check off at least 2 "woke" boxes.

"Qualifications" is a term that we'd need to define clearly. I wont quibble that over the years (by my definition of qualified) there have been mostly unqualified appointments regardless of party in power.

For example, Obama's pick for Dept of energy seemed qualified being as he was a nuclear physicist. Even Alberto Gonzalez would be "qualified" being a lawyer. Perhaps not being a prosecutor would seem him less qualified than hundreds of other candidates. Ben Carson doesn't seem particularly qualified as the HUD secretary.

All that aside RFK Jr is neither a scientist, medical doctor/researcher or expert in ANY field for this post. In fact, he seems to be opposed to the stated mission of our national health institutions. By contrast Xavier Becerra at a bare minimum was an advocate for strengthening national public health laws and systems.

So we can agree that this is not a good pick to lead that department? Do you like RFK Jr in this role? Do you think he's qualified to run this? If so, why?

Subject matter expertise doesn't seem to be required. Buttigieg's expertise in transportation was what, fixing potholes on the mean streets of South Bend? You used Ben Carson above for housing, and I agree. Historically, seems like the floor is pretty low. But I digress.

Trump campaigned on Making America Healthy Again. I see nothing wrong with the President exercising his constitutional authority to nominate RFK Jr. for HHS Secretary since he appears to share the same vision as the President. Could it be a disaster, sure. Could it actually improve health in this country, yes. RFK Jr ran a decent campaign as a third party candidate. Lasted longer than Biden anyway. So, I think it's fair to say he is capable of running an organization.

You may have noticed that cabinet members sometimes have what could be called informal duties that don't have much to do with their departments. Buttigieg is a good example. A big part of his job was media appearances, even Fox and Fox News, to speak on behalf of the Biden administration on anything and everything. In the link below he is on Fox News to comment on anti-Israel protests. Not much connection to transportation. So, the point is you don't know what RFK Jr's responsibilities will be, but here you are complaining about his qualifications for those undefined responsibilities.

How do we feel about treason?

CNN apparently saying US Military leaders meeting to defy the commander in chief.

This is bullish for WSU football, right?

No sourcing, no names, no information. Can't imagine that a social media poster with no accountability would make up a story to generate clicks...that would be unheard of!

Meanwhile, JD Vance says "Judges aren’t allowed to control the executive’s legitimate power." Actually, that's exactly what the judicial branch is supposed to do - limit the power of the executive and legislative branches.

JD Vance was exactly correct! You are apparently deciding to ignore the key word, which is "legitimate". The judicial branch is only supposed to guard against illegitimate overreaches of power. Rather like all those folks that screamed racist at anyone that spoke out or otherwise promotes the deportation of ILLEGAL aliens. If you are in favor of deporting illegal aliens, then by sneakily dropping the fact that they are illegal out of the situation, then BOOM! Racist!

My prediction is that the vast majority of these 40+ lawsuits/injunctions already filed against Trump and his administration will be thrown out or overturned. There is something wrong when the left goes judge shopping to get before a left appointed and ruling low level district court judge that goes and slams out a nationwide injunction affecting the proper functioning of government.

I would argue that “legitimate authority” does not include granting access to secure government systems to people from outside government, who aren’t employed by the government, and who haven’t been properly vetted.

It’s another example of Trump and his cronies picking and choosing which rules they want to follow. Unfortunately, the court pretty much gave him license to do that with some of their recent rulings.

We shall, see, won't we. Your statement about picking and choosing which rules to follow assumes that they have already broken rules, doesn't it? I have seen the Dems wailing and gnashing of teeth about it, but haven't seen any proof yet.

I would bet you that there are already PLENTY of other folks (not government employees) already within the organizations that are being looked at that have access to government systems. Consultants, contractors, etc. And since a bunch of the DOGE team reportedly have come from Space D and other defense contractors, it is quite likely that a bunch of them have been vetted enough to have a security clearance already. Musk himself has a Top Secret clearance and is considered a special government employee.

And claims are that the DOGE team does not have the ability to actually implement the savings that they are finding, we will have to see if it is true that they have read only access. Once again, I have seen nothing to prove otherwise.

BIG! if true…

(Still not a peep from our Bored Ethics clan)

FWIW, it would be good to see the actual evidence rather than some bullsh!t tweet. FWIW, if USAID staff (and Democrats) are found to be breaking the law...they should be punished. Unlike the MAGA clan, the rest of the country does want accountability for crimes.

Speaking of corruption, can you explain to me why it's a good idea for the US to take over Gaza and turning it into the Riviera of the Middle East. I'd love to hear the logic behind it.

You’re gonna need to show us where “most of the country” supports Trumps efforts to eliminate corruption.

I’ll answer your redirect:

Hamas broke the ceasefire. They have until Saturday at noon or face total elimination. I suggest they stop playing games and immediately comply with what they agreed to. I don’t think Trump is bluffing.

Now, I’m not saying Trump IS bluffing, don’t twist. I’m just saying I don’t “think” Trump is bluffing.

You’re new at this aren’t you Flat. There is no evidence so that’s all there is, bullshit tweets.

That doesn't really answer why it's a good idea for us to spend billions there and potentially send troops there.

What I'm gathering from this is that it's okay to force 2 million people to leave their homeland because 20,000 people among them have radical ideology?

Trump has said in the past that it's wrong for the United States to allow criminals into our country. Am I hearing that it's different when it is the United States telling Jordan and Egypt that they have to accept "radical terrorists" and criminals into their countries?

Answering your question asked without a question mark, something has to follow the ceasefire. The two state solution has gone nowhere. An IDF v. Hamas death match is unlikely to be popular. What's your solution?

I’m only saying that if you’re going to kill 1,000+ civilians in an unprovoked, surprise terrorist attack, then make a ceasefire agreement with Trump, you had better follow the agreement you signed or accept the risk of your decisions.

Everything else is your conjecture. While I appreciate the invitation, I’m going to decline following you down your rat-hole.

I think we should build a wall.

Coming from someone unable to grasp the simple concept of what Trump Derangement Syndrome is, I am not surprised that understanding which side of the aisle wants some accountability also escapes you.

Is it the left or the right that that has been electing and appointing politicians and prosecutors that promote no cash bail, freeing those already convicted, allowing theft up to $950 without prosecution, down charging crimes from felonies to misdemeanors, and seldom prosecuting anyone that riot out in the streets? Of course it is the left that has done that, all of which is a direct attack on actual accountability.

Which side was it that pushed defunding the police? It is the left. Which side is it that promoted open borders with absolutely no consequence for ILLEGALLY entering the country? It is the left. Which side is it that that has protested deporting illegal aliens that have committed serious crimes? Of course it is the left!

To claim it is the MAGA clan that does not support accountability for crimes is simply just plain stupid, Flat.

Some corrections:

Which side is it that promoted open borders with absolutely no consequence for ILLEGALLY entering the country?

Both, actually. There's been little to no action on immigration in decades. And it was Reagan - a republican - who approved an amnesty for illegal immigrants in 1984. Trump managed to turn it into a flashpoint by acting like a tiny fraction of immigrants represent all of them, and made it a key talking point while never really doing that much about it.

Is it the left or the right that that has been electing and appointing politicians and prosecutors that promote no cash bail,

Left, mostly

freeing those already convicted,

Both, as long as they were friends.

allowing theft up to $950 without prosecution, down charging crimes from felonies to misdemeanors,

Not sure about the first part, I haven't seen this. But really, this isn't a decision for left/right - these are both decisions made by prosecutors, and those decisions are usually heavily based on workload and probability of a conviction. Plea bargains are extremely common in all jurisdictions.

and seldom prosecuting anyone that riot out in the streets?

Well, to be fair, what's the point of prosecuting people who riot or who invade the capitol when the next president is just going to pardon them all anyway?

Why can’t you just simply tell the truth?

Hamas made a deal, reneged, Trump extended the deadline and Hamas doesn’t believe Trump.

Whatever happens to them is on them.

Next time, don’t kill innocent civilians inside another country.

I noticed you shed no tears for the condition of the hostages.

Hey Loyal,

This one a little too current eventy for you?

Look, I realize it’s not msnbc or cnn or flying Bigfoots but, it has received over 18,000,000 views in a day, so it’s got THAT going for it!

Never made any reference to hamas or hostages.

Although I’m not sure why anyone is so shocked that hostages have lost weight. Probably should expect that they weren’t treated like royalty. At least these ones are alive.

FWIW, Israel has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians in the past 15 months. To act like a price has not been paid is kind of stupid. I don't agree with Hamas or their objectives and I do believe that they should release the hostages.....but it's not our fight and never should have been.

If this was on Biden or Obama’s watch these dipshits would be losing their F’n minds 😂. The jokes write themselves.
