Rumors are swirling on Twitter that Dennis Simmons interviewed for the WR coach opening at Oklahoma. This would not be great news. Especially considering the guys he is currently recruiting for us. Green, Burnett, Tezino.... Hopefully just a rumor but it sure doesn't feel like anything is going right for us in the last week of recruiting.

According to some Oklahoma fan site, he has already been to Norman and interviewed for the job. Seems like he at least wants the job.

I assume he asked Leach is blessing prior to this move.

I very well could open up a spot for Graham Harrell.

If he goes it is at a most inopportune time,.It does not feel right and his recruiting players they are going after seems almost unethical. But i asked what next ?and this is the answer. The best scenario would have been to wait until the National Signing Day was over. If Leach knew,he was not happy about it one might guess. But football is a fluid scene where people move around a lot.I really hope that Graham Harrell is not brought on full time. That would be a big step down in every way one could think of both as a person and a coach.

Yeah, I don't want to lose Simmons either, (although evidently Stoops, unlike some posters, inexplicably blames the players who dropped the ball for the drops rather than their coach) but that statement is so strong, you'll need to show me where on the doll Graham Harrell hurt you.

I seriously doubt Simmons would do anything "unethical". We have a good staff & other programs are going to come after guys. I am sure Leach would rather Simmons stayed put, then wait until after LOI day, then all other plans. He probably also thinks his staff should do what's in their best interest. Being an assistant you have to do what you need to do.

Hopefully he sticks but I think Leach will find a quality replacement.

Just my take on the matter. I wonder what Dahu Green thought if he saw Simmons there? I realize that leach can find someone else who is qualified. it is the timing of the situation which does not seem right. The coaching staff at Oklahoma surely realized the situation and maybe took advantage of the situation?

They wouldn't announce any move prior to next Thursday

Dennis cannot afford to burn any bridges with Leach. You want to leave your current job under the best of circumstances. Any coach making that move has to look at the money, the opportunity, and what is the status of the head coach.

Clearly the WR position and the OC position was open because of some heat coming Stoop's way. Then Simmons may ask himself how safe is his current position.

My guess if both coaches have seasons that echoed this past season, I would surmise Stoop's would be fired before Leach. I think Stoop's seat is much warmer than Leach's.

Considering Leach had his contract rolled over once again, his seat isn't even above freezing, so to speak, despite what you may wish.

Which part of my post didn't make that clear?

The post was if the coach was worried about job security he would stay with the safer job, which is Leach's.

And why would I want the coach fired? Doesn't make a ton of sense. I have always believed in continuity. I have always believed there would be ups and downs in this job. Why does it make sense to fire a coach who is building it his way, with his system, and half way through the project you believe I think it is a good thing to blow it up? Quite frankly, that is crazy.

Dennis Simmons is facing a situation that many face at some point in their career. He knows the new OC at OU, just like he knows the HC at WSU. The new opportunity will probably pay more. The staff responsibility level will be similar, though he might get some sort of better sounding title. The pressure will be greater at OU, not just because of alum/admin expectations, but also because Stoops had to whack several people to save himself this year. The new position is at a school with a bigger football tradition, which in some ways is more attractive for an ambitious young ass't coach. The risk/reward situation at OU is definitely much bigger...to be viewed as part of a successful turnaround at OU would pay dividends, but if the turnaround doesn't happen, it will be a blow to his future prospects. To be part of the turnaround at WSU will also pay dividends, but probably it would be a longer term career strategy, as opposed to being at OU for a couple of years and at that point either getting axed with the entire staff or being part of a resurgence.

Lots of things to consider. I hope he makes a good decision.

One would think that the potential rewards may be greater at WSU. If the program blows up in the nest two years and they are highly successful,he would be sought by a lot of programs. Oklahoma is expected to do well. I do not see stoops as being on a hot seat. Oklahoma is expected to do well and win 8-10 games a year. If Leach can do that, his assistants will be highly sought after. I just wonder how well Simmons like Pullman. I think that is the key .

Somewhat disagree. Lincoln Riley is an up and comer and likely puts himself for a head coaching job as the OC at a P5 conference. Simmons is wise to position himself as either Riley's right hand guy (read: offensive coordinator at his next stop), or maybe even be in a position to move into the OC position at Oklahoma if/when Riley leaves.

The only up-sell for staying in Pullman is if Simmons had grade school aged kids and he wants them stay put - and if I recall, he doesn't (much younger). Now is the time for him to make a move.
