Don't get it ....

You will be after another lost decade because we chose to cheap out and get the books better instead of progressing. Chun football hire that has been good? None. Hope for the best, our the next couple years are a bust after out players that have talent hit the portal. So bummed.

I’m concerned about the hire too, but don’t write it off before it’s even happened. I think Chun will make a good hire. Maybe not Leach good, but he’s not going to Paul Wulff it either.

Kiffin was a pretty good hire, but the school president and boosters had him signed after Chun couldn't close the deal and went out and grabbed the guy Old Dominion just fired.

Hoping Chun can land his plan A because his plan B in that situation wasn't great.

The problem with WSU isn't whether or not you hire the right coach. It's that even a good hire is more likely to "fail" than not. Success/failure is different for all fans so I won't try to quantify it, but any coach, even the best available is likely to produce on the mediocre to bad end of the win spectrum. That is the cold reality of the situation.

You do realize NC has a higher crime rate than any of the states in the northwest.

I couldn't disagree more. I spent 10 years in Seattle and 15 years in San Francisco. I will take my 20 acres in North Carolina, you can have the unbearable traffic, high taxes, crime, homeless problems, rude people and effed up politics of the West Coast.

You have a good bead on it.

WSU was able to sustain Leach's salary because it was a "rollover" it probably would been harder if it was fresh new deal. Also I think smarter heads could see strong performing and entertaining teams pay for the Head Coach' salary many times over.

From reading some comments from your legislature etc. I'm starting to think there may be pressure to go cheap. The problem with that route is you greatly reduce your chances of hiring a successful coach. Then you get into a cycle of yeah you saved salary money but you greatly damaged the revenue side of the equation.

NC has an income tax though. There’s always something. Since most folks buy homes on conventional mortgages, I think property taxes are generally “priced in” when it comes to real estate acquisitions. I own 2 rental homes but rents are generally higher bc it’s more expensive to buy w/property taxes, so I figure I come out pretty even on that exchange.
Although WA has also floated an income tax too (which Gates just announced he’s in favor of) which would really suck! At that point I may be looking for a new state to reside in.

Don't worry about it, 90. A sales tax has been floated since Dan Evans was governor. Evans, a Republican and well liked guy, couldn't get it off the ground and no one has done better with the idea since he proposed it. 'Give us an income tax and we'll repeal the sales tax.' 'Yeah, sure, you bastards in Olympia will tax our incomes and continue with the sales tax.' The voters in Washington do not trust the government when it comes to spending and taxes. Wonder why that is! This state will not have an income tax during our lifetimes.

State income tax will be coming through a Washington State Supreme Court ruling (ala McCleary)

The public employees unions (teachers, SEIU) worked hard to pack that court.

They will simply find a way to reverse the court decisions from the 1930s and dump it into the legislature's lap.

Everything else was roughly correct.

Maybe so, but I live in Western WA, and it sucks. It’s become a terrible place to live. Beautiful geography, wonderful 3 months of summer, but that’s it.
I live in western Washington and I love it. My parents moved down to Oceanside a few years ago and moved back. This is still a great place to live.

There are plenty of deterrents to me ever living in the South/East, but the first 20 are humidity. I could never get past it enough to enjoy any of the things that are appealing to me in the region.

Price quit before a Rose Bowl, sac religious if you will. I could never let that go. Leach quit after the season and bowl game was over, the proper way to go out.
price also bad mouthed WSU on his way out the door, that should never be forgotten or forgiven

One moment in WA was the recent 520 bridge rebuild. First time round they specified an end date to tolling; this time, they felt it was nobody's business. Watershed change in the relationship between the public sector and the people who pay their checks.

I've lived in 7 different states all over the country now and I believe the west coast is the most beautiful area in North America. Unfortunately, after living away for a decade and seeing how abysmally dark and wet and cold W WA is compared to the other places I live/d, I can't go back except for a really special situation. Being away did it for me. Different strokes...

Tennessee is great. I could live there. South Carolina and Florida are pretty good too, but too hot for me. Lexington, KY is one of the nicest areas I’ve ever traveled to.
To each his own, but I couldn't do most of the above. I have family in Franklin & Knoxville, and friends in Nashville; former are livable but dull, latter is a tiny tourist trap whose novelty wears off after 3 visits. Columbia and most of SC are a dump but the coast and especially Charleston are charming. Anybody can find a spot in Florida but vagaries there too. Lexington has pretty spots outside the city but UK is the ugliest campus I've ever seen and the whole Cincinnati/Lex area to me is trailers and strip malls connected by highways and fields.

Kentucky is the most unimpressive place I've ever visited. After a horse farm and a tour of a bourbon distillery, absolutely m'eh. I spent a year in Frankfort one week....as the saying goes.

That’s exactly how I feel about Western WA. The cold, dark gloom really gets to me; particularly between January - April.

Heck, sometimes it's October through mid july. There's an old joke: 'Seattle has two seasons-The rainy season and August'.
However there are parts of W WA that are in the rain shadow that are OK. Port Townsend, The san juan's, and Whidbey Island. There's a place on Whidbey around Ebeys landing W of Coupeville that is dry enough that it has a unique species of cactus!

Yeah its absolutely unbearable to live in Western WA this time of year. The uptick in vagrants as exploded in recent years making Seattle a destination worth taking off your list. 3 lousy months is all this place gets as a "summer" and you're no even guaranteed that as we saw last year. First opportunity, I am headed to AZ and won't even bat an eye. Yes the summer's there are brutal but I spent every summer in So Cal growing up and the heat is similar. I'd rather deal with 3 months of excess heat than 8 months of excess dark skies, rain, cold and short days.

This is why that I've always been amazed that UW is attractive to any California players. Amazed if they are not sick of that weather after one year there.

I grew up saying “First day of summer is July 5th.” It seemed to rain every single 4th of July growing up.

What was it Price said that was so egregious?
It's been awhile and my memory is not what it used to be but I seem to remember Price referring to WSU as a "cow college" or something like that and stating that things were much better in Tuscaloosa. I am sure that he was not enamored by Sterk and Rawlings but he definitely poked some fun at WSU in general after arriving in Alabama. But that was a long time ago and I have long since forgiven him for this.

O.K., you've got me. Probably should have added "if the voters have anything to say about it"

I am not an attorney but honestly puzzled how the courts will be able to declare sales tax, property tax etc. as unconstitutional. McCleary addresses the state constitution's requirement to fund schools, not how the funds are raised. One would think that they would have to come up with something better than "We don't like it". If, as you suggest, we are trending toward a state income tax then we can expect a major outrage from the populace including referendums directed toward overturning this.

can't do it. The humidity alone is too much.

I thought the humidity would be a problem as well. Not nearly as bad in NC as it is further South. After 5 knee operations the humidity actually does wonders on my old broken body. It was 72 degrees today in Durham, split some fire wood in a t-shirt.

Not in my neck of the woods....we are well armed and have a tight knit community. You would be a fool to engage in any tom foolery in my small town. Durham which is 10 miles South of where I live has its share of problems...as do most cities run by liberal democrats. The Durham chief of police is begging for more officers and she keeps getting the thumbs down from the city council.

Amen to that. Spent my first 36 years in the state of Washington, it ALWAYS rained on the fourth, then you got your 6 weeks of summer, then the gray "put the butter knives to my wrists" weather set in for the next 8 months. BRUTAL.

I spent the first 14 years of my life in SC and GA. I don’t remember the heat bothering me much. August football two-a-days practice seems just as brutal in GA as it was in WA.

But I will say in the last 20 years I’ve been in north-central ID, I miss the rain. I miss the trees. The sound of rain on the house is soothing.

I lived on Fort Knox... there were some interesting things in nearby Louisville (not enough to spend more than 24 hours there). Everything in between was a depressing dump. Morbidly obese people driving minivans down potholed highways past chain restaurants and dead vegetation

I was in NC for the Legion World series a couple of summers ago. It was brutal. Not as bad as Louisiana or East Texas, but it sucked. Worked on MSC ship based out the Naval base, Norfolk. pretty bad. New Jersey/New York, Philly just as bad. I was stuck once on a barge in the Louisiana swamp land port areas, 2 hours south of NO in September. Holy Hell

Curious was the Legion World Series held at the baseball complex in Cary NC?
