I didn't even go into a fraction of the things I know going on behind the scenes - I don't want to end up in the river or worse. Political football is a great phrase. That's what it all comes down to.
No offense to Observer, but gibby provided the most thorough, thoughtful and fact-based analysis of the Jo Albi situation (below). And in only 4 posts.
That doesn't surprise me (things going on behind the scenes). The "we know what is best and the minions should follow us like lemmings" and/or the "I'm going to profit from this but don't want the public to know" types of situations are not unusual. Perhaps Albi falls under some other description, but I get your drift. I've seen similar stuff over the decades when it came to the public financing things. A lot of "we know best", "anyone questioning us is stupid", etc., etc. Oh and hiring consultants (and architects) to put up "facts" and numbers that are bought and paid for to support the project. I pay you to prove that I am right. But hey public, the "outside" consultant agrees with us!
Problem is, the minions aren't as stupid as the insiders think, and it is their wallets paying the bills. Occasionally they see through the BS and lies.
Speaking of Albi - just what makes it so untenable for GSL football anyway? The turf? Replace it. The stands? Replace the best 1,000 seats and rope off the rest. Bathrooms, concessions? Wouldn't cost $30 million to replace those to serve the few hundred fans that come to games. I know that sounds tacky as hell, but this "Oh we have to completely remove everything and start over for $30 million" isn't the only option. Give the taxpayers all the options. Including doing nothing, except for any life/health/safety fixes. But then that would be honest and transparent.

Why don't you tell us about all the wonderful restaurants close to Albi. Identify more than one where you're unlikely to get stabbed in the parking lot or offered meth. Should be easy since you're a self-proclaimed expert. Fifteen minutes should be more than enough.

Good thing the downtown stadium plan doesn't include building a bunch of new playfields at the Albi site that will attract state and high profile (youth-focus implied) events. Because those innocent families might want to go get a bite to eat near Albi between games. And get knifed and sold meth while waiting for the ambulances.
And thank God they wouldn't want to put a new school on that seedy side of town.
