First impacts of tariffs

This article and video (below) from yesterday(?) just kills me. Customers lining up outside Costco to buy eggs. Customers literally loading their carts with cases of eggs. Anybody tell them that the US does not get its eggs from China, Mexico or Canada? Our collective IQ in America is so low. Lemmings are more intelligent.

And how many f-ing eggs do these people eat? And they do go bad eventually I believe. I stopped in at Winco yesterday. Eggs were definitely low in quantity but not cleaned out. Limit of one, I think they were 18 packs. I only eat egg whites for health reasons - these people do know that one egg has 100% of your daily cholesterol, right? - and grabbed a "carton". Price was about the usual, maybe up a bit, and again low supply but not cleaned out. Didn't bother to check the price on "real" eggs.

Really nice article they did there, basically aimed at taking their shot at Trump again. Did anyone notice what was missing from that story? They neglected to talk to any of the customers to ask WHY they were buying so many eggs! And here is why it may have mattered.

Three or four weeks ago, maybe even more, I was in Costco heading for the checkout with my meatloaf and mac and cheese dinners and came up on this older lady also rolling towards the checkout, and she had her cart filled to the brim with eggs. Nothing but eggs, top to bottom. So being the smart ass I am at times, I told her that it looked like she was going to make one Helluva omelet. She laughed a bit and then told me she did all the buying for the local American Legion and was stocking up for the Sunday breakfast. And then she said that eggs were the only thing she bought at Costco, everything else she got at Winco.

So you see, you guys are jumping to confusions again to make fun of people you thought were so stupid they thought they had to stock up on eggs when often there is a very valid reason for bulk purchases. Not everyone buying in volume is stupid for doing so. In fact. I ran into my neighbor there a couple times stocking up on bulk stuff. So why would a guy do that when they only had three kids? They owned 3 care facilities.

Some of you might want to stop and think once in a while before getting prematurely ejaculated again. Think outside your own little box occasionally!

Oh for F-s' sake. My commentary, and the article itself, despite the headline, have little to do with Trump himself, or the tariffs for that matter. It is about the stupid shits that make up this country and buy 20 dozen eggs because - as you say - why?

And your isolated examples, while cute, do not at all describe the shitshow at Costco or elsewhere. You telling us that every shopper in line was buying for the Legion breakfast or their care centers? C'mon buddy, you are smarter than that. It is a commentary on our f-ed up, brain-dead populace. Just like the TP hoarding a while back. Although to be fair, I did pick up a 4 pack of TP just to be safe......

P.S. What is with this infatuation with premature ejaculation?

Problem was that so many people were hoarding TP and sanitizing wipes that they created the shortage. There was no rational reason to hoard TP…ever. There wasn’t much rational reason to hoard wipes, although at that point people were being told to clean doorknobs and elevator buttons, so at least that could be excused.

I don’t recall ever actually running short of TP, but I do recall that people were stealing the fat industrial rolls from work. Not sure why, that stuff was John Wayne paper, and was about the last thing I’d want to take home.

The rough stuff actually grabs those cling-ons better. Although my hot, supple tush gets Soft and Gentle.

Do I need to relink the Shit List? In case this thread goes South as they all do...... :)

On reflection, I think your link was missing a few. I distinctly remember a poster in the 90s that had “the Dairy Queen shit.” Soft serve, with a curl on top.

Maybe to finish woodworking projects during Covid downtime?

It's pretty clear FLAT mentioned that VERY cause in his third paragraph.

I guess that WAS pretty far down to notice. Geezus. Taihtsat
Rip Van BleedCrimsonandGray farted himself awake long enough to google why eggs are in low supply.

What Ag experts say is that egg prices will most likely continue to rise throughout the year: it ain’t just going to get better in 6-8 weeks.

Geezus, you're both dolts.

Egg prices recently had nothing to do with who was in office, HPAI that ran rampant through egg farms and forced mass culling was the reason.

6-8 weeks to get new layers in, which is about how long its been, and egg prices will get back to normal.

If you read my posts completely rather than just skimming and reacting, you'd have seen the paragraph where I said that egg prices have nothing to do with the President. My commentary was more pointed to the fact that the Cheeto-in-Chief had done a political stunt featuring eggs (and other groceries) back in August and loudly proclaimed that he would lower prices on the very first day of the Presidency. The dear leader loves to brag about things that are not within his control and the MAGA base laps that sh!t up.

More Bigfoot.

Not going away.

By all means, Please note the source. (Btw, $11 eggs were @ Safeway. I’ve got a picture I may post, may not)

I digress.

Here’s something that will completely blow your mind: drive around to different gas stations in your town and check the prices. Are they the same? Does gas cost the same in Spokane and Seattle? Los Angeles? New York? Hmm…

Tell everyone here how stupid you are without telling us you're stupid.

Thanks for demonstrating, yet again, that you’re even dumber than I am suggesting Goober is in my post to him.
Haha! You libbies are big mad! Enough rage, hate and aggression to make even Mike Tyson blush. I got my popcorn ready because the next 4 years of this is going to be epic! The amount meltdowns already occurring was worth the price of admission.

You can stay all you want and won’t be muted by me, I enjoy a good laugh. A Trump supporter bitching about misappropriating tax dollars? Lmfao. You are paying for that fatass, his staff, and his guests to golf and stay at his own resorts for the next four years at premium prices that he is pocketing. Naw…nothing corrupt about that.

Shit I wonder when we’re gonna see the plans for Trump Tower Gaza Strip drop, no doubt funded by Russian money that dumbasses Eric and Junior will let slip.

I know you’ll never believe it, but you ain’t in the club Uber.

Bleed...of course it will take time to cool of inflation if it can be cooled. But sales is about expectations. Trump sold the nation on a wall being built. Said he would get Mexico to build the wall-didn't happen. He said he would have a new medical plan...to this date he only has a concept of a plan. So much comes out of his mouth, so if you want people to look at things objectively, don't tell me he will fix inflation his first day and the only thing he has done is get rid of people who worked for the FBI and investigated Jan 6th. So how does that make our country safer, btw?

So why make commitments that you aren't able to keep and wonder why people are going WTF?

Not sure what point you are making, but here in YakiVegas gas prices are nuts. There are a lot of stations right at, say, $3.79. Within a couple of miles sits Arco at $3.39. But people are still buying at the expensive place. Even funnier is that we have a Yakama reservation Sinclair, dinosaur and all, down at the south tip of town. Just barely on the Res. It's way cheaper, I believe about $3.00 right now. 2 miles up the road it's $3.89. But people are still buying it. 80 cents/gallon is $12 a fill up for me.

Can't remember the last time I saw gas under $3.

One of the kids (who just started driving) asked me the other day how much gas cost when I first got my license. Can't remember for sure, but it was under a dollar. Went up to about $1.25 after Desert Storm, and I thought that was outrageous.

Late 90s or early 2000s, AM/PM came into town and was selling for 89 cents. They were trying to drive traffic to the C-store and push local competition out. Didn't work, all those stations went over to Tesoro within about 18 months. I think they've now gone over to Porter, Conoco, and maybe some others.

Used to be that the stations close to the highway always had the highest prices, and you'd save if you'd drive even a mile off the road. Ellensburg and North Bend used to be great examples of that. In fact, looking at GasBuddy for North Bend...it still is. The Chevron and Shell at the main exit, right off the freeway, are at $4.40. The Gull station at the other exit (by the truck stop) is $3.78, and the Shell downtown is $3.93.

We are in the $2.70 per gallon range at regular retail gas stations. Sam's Club and Costco are closer to $2.50 per gallon. We always get fuel points from Dillons (Kansas version of Safeway) and get $1.00 off at least once a month so I normally get one 23 gallon fill-up on my F-150 at about $1.70 per gallon.

Wow. Checking GasBuddy (which obviously isn’t a full survey) only shows one gas station in Washington below $3. Clarkston Costco is at $2.89.
