Flynn

Checked in on how he was doing before watching a bit today on BYU tv. He was getting the most minutes on the team their first couple games and seems like one of if not the most productive offensive players on their team. He looked good the little bit I watched.

But hey a certain poster thinks Flynn is not good.

And thanks to that poster's hero Kent, that player left.

No doubt in my mind, had Smith been Flynn's coach, he probably would have done well at WSU, and would not have left WSU.

All Flynn needed was good coaching, which he didnt get at WSU from Kent, but is getting from his coach at SDSU.

Dont blame the kid for leaving Kent.

Good Luck to the Flynn and hope he continues to do well as a former coug.

He transferred to a school that Ernie Kent beat.

And probably didnt give Smith & USF the time of day when transferring because he would've been required to play defense.

He transferred the year.before your coach was hired. Another interesting tidbit Seattle lost at home 74-66 to Eastern Washington.

He transfered the year before and red shirted last. He is one of many that quit on Kent.

It's complicated with Flynn. He thought he would end up at a major program like Gonzaga or Texas but overestimated his value and got stuck at SDSU. Kent found a diamond in the rough and he bolted as quick as he could.

Agree but in hindsight the reason he gave for leaving looks pretty reasonable. Lack of player development in the program.

I don't believe that lack of development was a problem under Kent. Several players improved under his regime. His problem was the overall recruiting was horrible and that he didn't know what to do with the players he had. There was no structure to the games besides play fast.

SDSU may not be Gonzaga - but I'd argue that it's in the top 5 programs in the Pacific/Mountain Time zones over the last 10 years.

You've heard of this guy named Kawhi, right?

WSU would kill to have the basketball following SDSU has.

I disagree on player development. Hawk developed in the off season before Kent arrived. Franks developed a lot in many respects over 4 years, but I didnt see much that you could attribute to being coached up. I thought Elleby actually regressed a bit during last season as he tried to do too much. Certainly nobodies defensive game developed under Kent.

While I am sure Kent wasnt able to recruit at the level he expected, the last 2 teams under achieved based on having Franks and Flynn, then Elleby.

Ernie mailed it in the last 2 or 3 years

I agree that Kent's recruiting overall was not good, but I don't think player development has ever been his strong suit. Hawkinson got better under EK, Franks did offensively but nobody got better defensively or in various other aspects of the game. Flynn moved on because he wanted to improve his game overall and didn't think it would happen with Kent. Look at how well Milan Acquah has done since moving on from WSU. CJ was pleased to have Smith come to Pullman because he knew he could improve defensively under his direction. Kent's success at UO came strictly from recruiting 4 and 5 star players. They were good right out of the box. He just couldn't bring those types of players to Pullman and was left with having to develop what he was able to recruit. He pretty much whiffed on that count.

Glad Cougar

ps....I wrote this before I saw Avabob's response, which was spot on, IMO.
