Don't discount the very real possibility that Elleby would've transferred had Kent been retained. If a program like Gonzaga pursues him, it would be hard for him to stay at WSU with very little hope of getting out of the bottom third of the conference, let alone post season action. And Kent's track record with retaining players has not been good. If Elleby leaves, I won't blame the new coach or Pat Chun.

And by the way, Avabob is right about Elleby's lack of development as the season wore on. In fact, I think he picked up some very bad and lazy habits. He became a turnover machine the last part of the season.

The basketball world is a small world. i have said this since i heard about Chun s temper tantrum These are my opinions and the staff at the other board are little imbeciles who are everybody s butt boys. What they say and think is irrelevant. I am banned from brand x and do not go over there .If squatty Chun think that he can work miracles then he now has a go at it.He has been too free with WSU s money and it will catch up to him.The internet rumors about Elleby will grow and it is just a matter of where he will end up. The Young talent are gone and Chun hobnobbing with them at basketball functions do not mean squat.

Woah, woah, slow down there. What temper tantrum? Please explain? This is news to me.

And where was all this Chun hate when I was getting drawn and quartered for daring to express disappointment about his first year? I could have used some backup in that argument.

Finally, CougPatrol and I want to make sure you actually mean to call him "squatty Chun" and not "squinty Chun".

They finished 11th. And losing by far their best player in Franks. But you somehow think there’s a depth of talent?!? That’s insane.

Nobody is going to begrudge a roster turnover. Leach cleaned house his first two years. It’s part of the deal

Ernie didn’t get it done. Period. If Elleby leaves, what’s the downside? 12th? So what?

Go cry in your cereal somewhere else.

I think El feels Kent can reach these kids.

But not everything is what it appears. It is like how I feel about coaches, they are probably never as great as we think, and on the other side of the coin coaches are never as bad as they seem. Same goes for transfers. I would say 7/10 it is the kid that gets screwed.

But here is what has to be looked at. If kids quit, are they the ones who were going to make the necessary changes anyway that were needed to become a winner? When you are rebuilding you have to have kids that have that desire to prevail even against all odds. Kids who want to leave as it is easier, then they wont be the ones needed to make the change.

I have friends whose kids didn't make it through the Leach turnover. It happens. Didn't make either of them 'bad', it just didn't fit and never was going to. I also know Joe Dahl lapped it up and he's in the NFL now.

Of course Observer thinks that the quality of recruits will be better. I can hardly wait to see next year s team take the court. :)

They have a high bar. Will have to go some to break the all time largest margin of loss in the conference tourney

You don't know my financial status and you definitely don't know what I think.

But I KNOW Ernie finished 11th again and he was paid an exhorbitant amount of money to improve the basketball program and he didn't. That's a fact.

So you play in speculate land and cheer against who has yet to be named. I'll wait and see what the results are and assess performance after a reasonable transition period.

And in 5 years if the Cougs are still in 11th place, then you were right and I was wrong. But I"m not going to play that game until a coach is named and proper research done on what we're getting and then establish reasonable timelines to clean up the cesspool.

But you have fun living in no logic land.

Never said they were bad, just not the ones needed to make the change.

So what is the "reasonable transition period" ? Chun will have to swallow every defeat despite your call for armistice for a poor team. You will hear about every defeat for what 2-3 years ? or longer given the quality of coaches currently being bandied about on this board. Unless they get Pitino or Bobby Knight returns to lead the team to the Big dance. I will love to see the attendance figures and generated income by this 2 million dollar per year coach.

It all depends how much people connect with the next coach. WSU fans haven't really needed to see immediate wins. They need to feel there is hope. Sampson bringing in Seltzer gave people hope he could recruit the kind of talent that could compete. The 4 Texas JCs along with the high school players in the next class gave people even more hope and the support continued to build.

Kent showed some glimmers year one but couldn't follow it up.

If the next coach gets fired it doesn’t mean that firing Kent was the wrong decision. Bone needed to go.
