I don’t want to get too excited about someone in mop-up duty, but Mateer looks smoother in the offense than Ward does. Good fakes, decisive, and that throw was on the money.
Competition makes everyone better.
Let's see how he does the rest of the game or will the coaches want to run the ball only.
Mateer definitely looks more comfortable and smoother running this offense. I think our future is bright with this guy. Schlenbaker looks good too!

Perspective: Stanford has one of the worst run defenses in D-1. We had to come into this planning to run.
The fact that it worked reinforces that we can do it and need to do it more. No reason to think we can’t run on our 3 remaining opponents too.
I’m slightly concerned that we didn’t get better pressure on McKee. Stanford hasn’t been very good at keeping him clean, but mostly kept us off him until after it was out of hand. I feel like we should have had him on the run. On the other hand, we gave up no sacks. Some of that was Ward escaping, but still a better performance by our OL.
Much better offense this week. A couple defensive lapses and bonehead penalties, but that’s football. Todays planning and effort level could get us to 8-4, and I think that’s within what was expected this year.

Last years recruiting class looks promising. That's a good sign.

We were 2 for 2 on deep throws against Utah...and had a few completions against Stanford.
So are we to just throw more wr screens which you cheerlead so hard for?
And the play in question when I posted that was a 3rd and 7...and we throw the ball laterally which got batted down at the los.
Don't need to throw deep on 3rd and 7...just behind the sticks. It was a stupid play call

Combined with the 20% turnout in the rest of the state, that should get Murray another term.
Yes..and we threw a corner route after the fact w no problems.
So explain to me why a lateral pass on 3rd and 7 is such a good call.
Against a Stanford team that is terrible.
Same reason any run play that gets stuffed for no gain is such a good call.
