While ASU lost, Oregon comes through, now faces the #13 UCI Anteaters. Same team we play in baseball this weekend! Looks like the Sweet 16 for them.

Looks like the mutts will probably pull through as well.

The Anteaters. What a strange, but strangely appealing mascot. Ant eaters. What other animal is named for what it eats? I can't think of one. And how many animals are put together physically specifically to eat one thing? Giraffes I guess.

I have to vent somewhere. Duke is obviously a great team and their physical talent is light years better than North Dakota State. Yet, the Blue Devils have had problems shaking the pesky, overachieving Bison. Why on Earth does it seem that the powerhouse teams get favorable calls from the refs? NDSU player gets called for a double dribble when it clearly didn't occur. Ref right in front of the play rules that ball goes off NDSU player's foot when replays clearly show it never touched his foot. NDSU point guard gets thrown to the ground on a rebound attempt, no call. Duke's going to win handily but do they really need that kind of help from the officials?

Well for what its worth I voted for the Anteater mascot. As an early UCI student in the 1960's the student body voted and if I remember correctly the Anteater won overwhelmingly. I think the inspiration came from the comic strip BC.

Oregon is playing really well but they have to get by Virginia. That should be a good game. UW has to play North Carolina. I suppose I could see there defense giving NC trouble but I don't think they have enough offense.

Big-10 is 7-1 after the first round. Only loss was Wisconsin to Oregon.

The conference will pick up at least one more loss today for sure. Minnesota plays Michigan State, which is kind of weird to have two teams from the same conference play each other so early in the tournament.
