I love Mateers grit,moxee and running ability. I also cringe just about every time he runs the ball due to risk of injury. Yes, he’s tough as hell but it’s just a matter of time before you get hurt with that style of QB play. Spending the majority of your NIL budget on a running qb is risky. Not saying WSU should walk away if he says he’ll stay for 50-60% of the Nil budget but it definitely would come with a lot more risk than a pocket passer.

PS - looks like Cedric Coward, who has highest NIl package on the BB team is likely out for the season.

I’ve been hearing this about Coward as well. Maybe a medical RS?

He would seem to qualify:

According to the NCAA rules, in order to be granted a medical redshirt, the athlete must:
  • Suffer an injury that is deemed “season-ending” → check?
  • Their injury must occur before the halfway point of the season → check
  • Not participate in more than 30% of the season's games → 6 games of 30-ish games so check
He obviously wants to go to the NBA, but has he done enough off of the NBA feedback?
