Bye, John. Could have been a legend in Pullman. You're JAG at OU.

A $3 Million JAG. But JAG nonetheless.

Disagree.

With the tools he has he could easily make OU a title contender if they play to his strengths. I see a lot of Tebow in his game. With a good pass receiving TE and a legit deep threat that will fight for every ball (ie, a can't-make-a-read-bail-out-player) they will be dangerous on offense.

Arbuckle will ruin his chances because he insists on doing what he wants to do and not what's going to win games, but nonetheless, the opportunity is there and its real.

Just sad he chose to follow a guy who is out of his depth but just doesn't know it yet, and now will drag Mateer down with him.

CFB is dead...... Unless the NCAA gets control of the chaos within the sport, its only going to get worse. I'm not sure how much more I can withstand until I become completely apathetic and lose any and all interest/excitement for WSU Football.

John Mateer blows Tim Tebow away.

John Mateer is a good college QB with upside who spent much of the season running for his life. Tebow was a 47% passer with no arm on a great team.

The sad truth. End of the day if he invests his $3M ($1.7 after taxes) wisely he will be set up nicely regardless.

I like Mateer and sincerely hope the best for him, but I can’t see a scenario where Arbuckle doesn’t get chewed up by SEC coaches considering how badly he was outmaneuvered against MWC teams. Struggling in the third quarter is a giant red flag for a coach’s ability- anyone can script 15-20 plays with a talented QB.

Oklahoma fans cracking me up thinking they just landed Josh McDaniels and Tom Brady 🤦🏼

Was going to go peek at their board, so thanks for saving me the trip.

Being the good accountant that I am, I had to check on your $1.7M figure. It's a little low IMHO, given the graduated Fed and Oklahoma state tax rates, which do top out (combined) at 41.75%. I'd probably say more like $1.9-2M, but close enough. Double it if he stays 2 years.

Math redo…$3M - $1.1M in taxes - $1.89M crazy hot (emphasis on crazy) OU coed that will suck him dry…should leave him about $10K give or take.

Is it a given that he’s going to Oklahoma? He hasn’t specifically said that yet I’m wondering.
Also, maybe we should stop beating the dogs in the apple cup the last two quarterbacks to do that have transferred

Well at least we have Basketball to fall back on as we tear up the WCC. Oh wait, half of our team is out for the year with injuries. Well, at least we have Baseball to fall back on as we tear up the MW conference next Spring. :(

My anger towards Mateer is lessening. If his offer is really getting +$2 mill... he can donate $500,000 to WSU and no feelings hurt.

Yeah. Reminds me of when Leaf signed what - a $40M contract? - and donated $250K, then had to turn it into a big deal, announcing it at a Coug home game. I was there for that.

It is a big deal, you dolt.

How many quarter million dollar donors has WSU football had, ever? A handful?

I don't know. Suppose you research it and tell us. And nice insult. Back at ya. Better yet, research how many people have given the same % to WSU Football? .6% of his contract. That's less than 1% for all you dolts out there.

More than Klay Thompson has donated at least.

Without name calling it would be interesting if you could run a comp with athletes in similar situations at their schools.

My guess is, most guys like leaf (at the time) think “the school was lucky to have me” they should have been giving ME money. Of course now they are but I doubt many football or basketball superstars walk away from their school feeling like they owe them something, even if millions is chump change to them. Klay probably feels the same way. Not right or wrong just perspective. You make it that big, pretty hard to not have a massive ego.

Now either 6th year Senior Walter Payton Finalist, past FCS transfer Zevi Eckhaus will shine, will win lots of games at WSU, now that knows offense, progressed, developed, etc.

Or Top 10 rated QB prospect(According to either ESPN, SI, Rivals or like sports media expert, pundits, article), UCLA Transfer Portal transfer, 4.5 star, 5 star MARTIN, that a combination of best parts of Mateer, Cam Ward, that Shifty, hits hole hard, that runs awesome, that a awesome True Dual Threat QB, will win QB1, and win lots of games at WSU.

Either way, Mateer leaves, WSU still good.

Cupboard is definitely still full, and sky definitely not falling at WSU.

I’m shocked so many WSU fans thought we had a chance to keep JM. No OC/DC, receivers & backs leaving, weird 2025 schedule. We can’t even get alcohol sales inside our own stadium. Yes, college football is broken, but WSU does a terrible job of optimizing things we can control (yes I donate to CAF and Collective).

I would round that up to all.

Allen has better measurables. 6-5, 237. DNA has a lot to do with NFL success, and even more to do with NFL opportunity.
I know everyone hates Mateer today but it’s the second year in a row we’ve lost a future first round nfl qb to the portal.

I’m in for a grand.

1st rounder vs undrafted? Straight up?
1st rounder or not. All day long. You say it with certainty, it’s far from it.

For perspective, as Cam Ward was considering his options at the same point in his career and the Canes were ready to dump the truck for him, he was probably a 5th rounder.
