this from an account with a decent amount of followers.

In the thread, it sounds like this was just a rumor, but then some people are saying it was "discussed" and that "the outgoing university president addressed it." Anyone know more about this? Hoping it's just a rumor. If WSU actually did do this, it might as well just go to FCS. The competitive impact is significant and just the optics of it for recruiting are terrible and would have a snowball effect. If a school can't even fund its scholarships, what coach is going to believe it is going to invest in the program? What recruit with options is going to want to attend what I'm pretty sure the kids would call a "poverty school," especially if that suggests the school will be cheap on facilities, travel, coaching, and everything else? If it was even discussed, it helps illustrate how dire things are.

Dickert was set for another pay cut from $3mm to 2.75 mm to 2.55 mm to something less in 2025. assistant pay pool cut in 1/2 for 2025 and we’re only funding 79 scholarships.

Ian, Jim Moore and Puck have all discussed this.

Clearly, we’re planning to spend our #Windfall on something other than nurturing the Golden Goose.

Wow. I had not heard anything about this, surprisingly. I am not surprised at all about the coaching staff being asked to cut their pay, and I could see cutting some other budgets and staff, but we're completely screwed if we can't fund scholarships.

The pay cuts for assistants is definitely true. I’m less sure about Dickert, although that could help explain why he wasn’t even interested in WSU’s counteroffer, and we’ll definitely use his departure as an opportunity to reduce the HC salary.

Haven’t heard anything about reducing scholarships, but I think our ability to fund 85 has been stretched for several years, and I haven’t heard any indication that we’ve done anything to address the AD debt.

Dropping to 79 when everyone else is going to 105 is the rough equivalent of giving up. Virtually guarantees that we’ll either be Big Sky in a few years or we won’t be playing football at all.

Let’s be clear, nobody knows for sure, I sure don’t. I have no inside sources.

Helps to explain a lot if true.

This is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard of. Of course, Anne and WSU's nitwit Administration views this as "saving" the out of state tuition on 6 athletes. Tuition which isn't real nor would it be collected elsewhere.

Now - more complicated question:

What about the significantly increased scholarship limits on many sports (link below). AND, how does that fit in with Title IX AND with the FBS requirements (link also below)? Too busy watching FB to look at this today, but the 90% rule under these recent changes is puzzling......
