Half time: CU 18, WSU 39

Up 21 at half is impressive. Defense has been good, and we are taking care of the ball. Only 4 turnovers and a couple were just fumbling type turnovers.

Gueye with 2 and Efe with only 1 foul so good shape with the bigs.

Yes, good shape with the bigs since Jackson is still out. Gueye sat for a while after his second. They didn't need him. By the way, that block by Efe as great.

Any idea why Bamba is not suited up?
I don't know. I didn't even notice until you mentioned it. I cannot remember the announcers saying his name. So, maybe they talked about it before tip off perhaps? I tuned in right at tip off.

Williams is beginning to look more and more like last years Williams.

Cougs up by 30, 31-61 after a Jakimovski Threeeee. Around 9 1/2 minutes left.

Even with some stagnant moments and bad turnovers we have extended the lead in the 2nd half 12 minutes in. CU with 31 points through 32 minutes. Wow.

Colorado looked like they wanted to get on the bus as soon as possible 4 minutes in tonight. That being said I really like what I saw out of the Cougs tonight. They appear to be having fun with better ball movement and they contest just about every shot. Not quite Tiny Bennet D but they aren’t a fun team to play

Offense looked much better this weekend. Good spacing, and of course it helps when the shots are falling. I've thought all season that this team is one off the ball, get his own shot when he wants to player away from being a very good team. Still, 5-3 in a league that was the best basketball conference in last years NCAA tourney is a good performance thus far.

It wouldn't have changed the outcome tonight, but Colorado is on the short of end of the scheduling stick right now due to COVID. They looked gassed tonight, and you can't really blame them. I fear that could happen to us down the stretch, as we face much tougher competition here soon. Either way, the season is far from over. We're a big team, and we play hard on defense.

Defense has been solid all year, it’s the long stretches of nothing on offense halfway through the game that has been the problem. After the last couple of games certainly seems like that’s been sorted out. They were up 30 last night and playing like it was a tie game. Bodes well for this final stretch. This is a dangerous team right now, and w Kenpom in the 30s and some great opportunities to pick up huge wins down the stretch they are actually in a pretty good spot. Win the games you should, pick at least one up against zona/la schools and win a couple games in the Pac12 and they are probably in the dance…maybe a play in.

Pleased the Cougs won.

Noah needs to not shoot. He’s going to cost the team in close contests where each possession matters.

I'm okay if he takes higher percentage shots like the two post ups he made in the second half. Not sure his outside shot is coming back this year....but IMO, this team becomes a true threat to crashing post season play only if Noah gets going on the offensive end. Having a green light for any shot in hopes of snapping out of it won't work, but he needs to a threat out there as a scorer to keep defenses honest.

Glad Cougar

Noah takes too many difficult and low percentage shots. I thought a couple of the 3s were good looks along with the late post ups. We really need him to simplify his shots and play making. He does that and we become really tough to defend.

For whatever reason his outside shot has left him. He's even missing free throws. Like Glad I'm ok with him posting up or driving. I'm really liking Jakimovski. He has so much more confidence. Last year he looked like he was afraid to shoot. This year he has daggers in his eyes.

Exactly. Williams shooting anything but at the rim is wasting possessions.

Analytics, you know.

Ball and numbers don't lie.

Especially since he considers himself to be the man. Flowers, AJ and Roberts need the ball with the game on the line.

I've been waiting for Jaki to break out, and it looks like it's finally happened. I hope he sticks with the program. He entered the transfer portal previously, but hopefully that situation has been resolved.

Maybe it was because Bamba was out but we had Jaki and Rodman on the court a lot together last night. Both of them are very good at competing for offensive rebounds and always seem to be around the ball. I agree with a comment above that the offensive spacing and ball movement has been much better the last couple of games.

The scouting report on Williams must be let him shoot the three ball all night. I'd like my odds if I were the other team.

Impressive win last night. Amazing to see how much Batty and Walker were neutralized vs our game in Boulder.

If we play our best, we can beat anyone in the league except perhaps UCLA.

Noah is shooting 19.1% from three. You're damned right I'm gonna let him shoot it if I'm the other team. He can't make it. He's NINE for FORTY-SEVEN. That's horrific. If you're less than a 30% shooter from 3, you shouldn't be taking that shot. Ever.

Gueye and Efi are the only ones on the team shooting a lower percentage from 3.

No. If you are open and are shooting more than 30% from 3, take the shot.

Otherwise pass the damned ball to someone who is.

A bad shooter/shot is as bad as a turnover.
I get the logic but by that rational Jakimovski shouldn't have taken many shots this year. He was just at 30% 3FG overall last year and actually under 30% 2FG. Roberts early season shooting was pretty poor but he's started to get more open looks than what he was settling for early. If players pass up "good looks" especially when they are taken in the flow of the offense, it's also a problem.

Our biggest issue shooting IMO has been shot quality and Noah heads that list. Far too many wild looks that are low percentage. His 2 shots from 3 yesterday were bad shots only in the context of a poor shooting season. That does matter but I would bet Smith said "good shot" in film session and to keep taking those kinds of looks. Other shots...not so much.

You can't wait forever in season but you also need to allow players to work things out in games. Still needs to improve a lot but personally I think Noah making better decisions over the last handful of games. We need him.

Well...then you probably shouldn't be coaching college kids, and neither should Herm. ;)

I’ve put enough kids into college programs that their college coaches didnt have to waste time explaining what a good shot is and who gets to shoot them.

Good points. Shot quality is key.

Do you think AJ has a better looking stroke than Williams (ie better ball rotation and form)?

Jamimovski on all of the above for sure. His performance this year hasn’t surprised me. I was pretty bummed when he went in the portal after last year.

19% from 3 either says you can’t shoot it, take bad shots, or both. Either way, make the extra pass or drive to the rim. Who knows what’s going on w Noah, he was obviously under the weather for a while, but there’s enough guys hitting from deep and has been enough of a void of offense in the paint (until lately) that his contribution to the offense right now should be going to the rim. I don’t see Kyle Smith as a guy that finds the right ingredients then tries to get cute or let’s one player F it up. He’s figured out how to get the offense to click for 40 minutes if someone doesn’t want to play their role they are going to ride the pine…even Noah.

Yeah but Noah was quite good a year ago and has faced many problems this season. 38 last year and 19 this year means you should shoot good open 3's in Smith's system.
It would be intersecting to see how he shoots in practice. Was last year lucky? is it in his head this year? Did he not put in the work this off season vs last off season….

They interviewed Flowers after the last game and asked him about his strong shooting performance. He has a pretty simple answer - He put in the time.
