Has anyone heard

Haven't heard a peep but Theo/Spokesman will hopefully have some tidbits. The women were in Eugene this weekend.

Oregon’s really talented and they also compete really hard. Ionescu’s a big time talent. Would like to know if we were able to make them at least break a sweat this year.

Oregon is preseason #1. In preconference we play #2 Baylor (current national champs) and #8 South Carolina. When you mix in BYU, #24 Indiana and Gonzaga it has to be one of the toughest schedules in the country.

That 3-day stretch of Baylor, South Carolina, Indiana is ridiculous.

We should improve this year although maybe it doesn't show in the overall record. We should be a lot deeper although we probably rely on both true frosh bigs.

Nothing on the board for recruiting for next year.

They also play Miami who is top 20. Their non con schedule is brutal.

If you want your program to improve you need to play the better teams.Th cupcakes scheduling of the men s team is terrible. I may just go to Pullman to watch WBB if they have a tough home game.

There's a balance. Daugherty scheduled hard as well and we couldn't get over the hump. Ethridge has said a few times they didn't know who they would play in the Paradise Jam. It is what it is so have to go in thinking we get better. It's a gauge for conference and if we improve who knows maybe we get a game or two or three.

From what Smith has said the men's schedule was set when they were hired so put the "cupcakes" on the last staff.

Ethridge addressed a group I am a member of Monday. She said in the past she wanted a tougher non-conference schedule, but intimated she didn't want it this tough. It's all a mental thing. If the girls are mentally tough enough to withstand what will surely be some beat downs it will greatly benefit them in conference and future years.

It's Kent's schedule.
Correct, just like last year's schedule. Both were put together with Kent's input and with Kent's desire to rack up as many wins as possible in non-conference games in order to save his job. Next year, with Smith's input, I expect a bit more of a challenging schedule.

Yeah right keep blaming the old regime. The yearly schedule usually has the conference games and the rest are fill ins by the current AD and the new coach . The AD is trying to justify his waste of money and will stoop to no ends to do so. For my money Raveling does not deserve to have his name raised"to the rafters' "it is a publicity stunt to try and appease the fans clamoring for interest. Old George did far more than Kent s detractors ever excoriated him for.enuff said Well hope for the best with a basically a 8-10 year contract for the new guy I will not follow the men s team much so do or worry about my imput. No big loss of that i am sure

1. You are wrong about this year's schedule being put together by Smith & Chun. Those non-conference games are lined up well in advance and were definitely secured with Ernie Kent's input. You obviously haven't worked in a university's athletic department and/or been around the basketball program. Some of us have.

2. You are wrong about Raveling not deserving the honor. Not only was he a pioneer for African American college basketball coaches, he was very successful. In the last 8 of his 11 seasons at WSU, Raveling had 7 winning seasons. He never finished under .500 in conference play during those 7 seasons and finished in the upper half of the conference in each of those seasons, including 4 third place finishes. On top of everything else, Raveling was a great ambassador for WSU. For those of us who were at WSU at the time, basketball was fun and meaningful. (Compare that to the past few years). By the way, Raveling is already a member of the College Basketball Hall of Fame. If he's good enough for that, he's probably good enough for some kind of recognition at WSU.

3. The fact that you don't like Raveling and Tony Bennett, the two most successful basketball coaches in WSU history, but thought Kent was doing a good enough job to be retained says a lot about what kind of a "Cougar fan" you are.

4. It will probably be better for you not to follow the men's team so much. You already don't like the new coach even though he has yet to coach a game at WSU and you seem irritated that so many of us are happy & hopeful about the new regime. I would advise you to go root for some other school/team. It beats rooting against our men's basketball team and hoping for failure in order for you to be vindicated in your opinion.

Tag teaming on Glad's points:

1) Smith said when he arrives Chun told him the schedule was in place, which he thought was a good thing because he needed to try to cobble together a roster.
2) Raveling is a legend and should be honored as such. Kent had a fine coaching career but never put it together here.
3) Trolls always hate coaches who have success at the schools they don't like and pump up horrible coaches. I know I never wanted the Gilbertson era to end in Montlake.
4) It's been proven ElC will attack recruits like Deion James who he praised when Kent was after. It's mindless trolling. Smith bad, Kent good. No more thought than that.

ElC's relatively harmless for an attention seeking troll. Pinning the schedule on Smith was pretty hilarious to me though when it has been clearly established as Kent's schedule.

Excellent post Glad. When I first saw his post early this morning, I was going to answer him. But, then I thought why give him the satisfaction. He is a troll. Still, you did a great job and I am glad that you did answer him.

Thanks 1990. I have largely avoided him but couldn't resist this time. I think a lot of what George Raveling did at WSU and was privileged to be in Pullman while he was there. The lack of respect for Rav is what really prompted me to respond. I'll try to go back to ignoring senseless posts from bitter posters.

Yeah right. I guess you guys have never personally met kent Or actually seen him at a student party back in his heyday. So i am not"bitter" . Old george had plenty of talent most of it misused and under coached.enuff said as people have scattered to the four winds

Rav got the WSU job 2 years after I graduated. I attended almost every game for most of the years he was there. Was he a great x and o coach? No. Yet he may be the most important hire in Cougar hoops history. He put Cougar hoops on the map before we had a quality product on the floor. He recruited 2 of the best teams ever to play in Pullman. To this day WSU has only made 5 trips to the dance. Rav has 2 of them in his last 4 years.

Assisted @ Cougar Cage Camp in what was the best summer of my life.
Spent post camp hours @ The Station listening to Rav holding court. For my time Don Collins is still the best player I witnessed and John Preston was one of the nicest guys.

Collins was incredible. He could totally take over a game. I still like Klay and Fontaine due to my prejudice toward great shooters.

A guy on the other board just posted that he heard the Cougs won 96-75. No other details

Guys, why are you replying to him with anything more than one sentence?
Everyone should just “hide” his comments like i did (assuming ElC is up to his old tricks). Makes this a much more constructive place.

Old tricks? you guys try to use the tree monkeys approach "see no evil" Hear no evil" and/or speak no evil"And a few use the ole ostrich head in the sand Trick which is a most precarious position. But no fear i will not follow the men s team much. I will follow the women s team as they are a more interesting team with some good potential and a great coach.

Ostrich head in the sand trick? That's a good description for someone who thinks Ernie Kent should've been given another year at WSU.
