Hoops: now 5-5 in the WCC, with a loss to 7-17 Pacific....

I’ve been an active WSU fan for 40+ years. WSU basketball has always been mediocre. Yea, we’ve had some successful snapshots during that time, but largely we’re a program that plays in front of 3-4k fans.

It’s cool to want more, but there’s nothing behind the desire. Our fan base is cheap. Our geography limits us. Student support is mediocre at best. How many basketball games have the posters on here attended this season? I’ve gone to 2 only because I have a son attending there.

Nice wins at Boise and Reno. A good home win vs USF. Played a really good game vs St Mary’s last week and lost. The 2 Pacific games and the road game vs USD were horrible so a lot of inconsistency and playing to the opponents ability. I think the game tonight vs USF on the road will tell us a lot. If they go out and get their asses kicked my confidence in Riley will take a big hit.

CP - I’m only saying we should be better than the middle of the WCC conference even with the limitations you list and I don’t dispute. We need to raise our expectations and hold McCoy accountable. Jim Sterk skated by way too long. We can’t afford that mistake

She should never have been hired.

More excuses don’t make things better.
Right. If any major hoops program lost their best player, college or Pro. It wouldn’t affect their season. You seem very knowledgeable, but cmon. It wouldn’t be an excuse, it would just be reality. The facts.

Losing to Gonzaga was fine. Losing to Santa Clara and Saint Mary's is acceptable given the injury issues that we've had. Struggling to beat a bad USD team and losing to a bad Pacific team twice is where facts start turning into excuses.

So you offer more explanations for losing. Got it.

This team is worn out. Most good bball teams have an 8 maybe 9 man rotation. We’ve had what 4/5 starters/swing players miss significant time? Over the grind of a bball schedule that’s not sustainable. You’ve got guys playing 30+ minutes who would have been playing 6-8 minutes. You’ve got Calmese basically playing the entirety of every game as really the only creator.

It doesn’t give Riley an absolute pass, but there’s no way to grade him with the injuries they’ve sustained.
